Emerson Hart Week: Cigarettes and Gasoline
antiMusic reports: Rejoice Tonic fans! You Wanted More and former Tonic frontman Emerson Hart is here to give it to you. We're celebrating the release of Emerson's new solo CD, 'Cigarettes and Gasoline,' this week and have asked him to pick his favorite five songs from the CD and tell us a little bit about each one. We kick off with the title track. Here is Emerson:

This song is unlike any other song production-wise on the record (though closely related to "Friend To A Stranger" in sonic theme). It was the first one I wrote for the record and was a keystone that started a thread to finish all the songs. Dealing with my father's murder when I was ten was hard to put into words so I tried to paint a picture instead of telling a story in a literal sense. I repeat the lyric "Good Things" many times throughout the song as a reminder to myself of what you take away from losing someone. It is important to remember the good so the bad will always finish last in the memory tapes we play over and over again in our minds.

Ex-GNR Member Hostage of Bodyguards?
antiMusic reports: Former Adler's Appetite vocalist Sheldon Tarsha made some pretty outrageous claims about former Guns N' Roses drummer Steven Adler during an interview on The Classic Metal Show last Saturday. Among the claims is that Adler's "wanna be gangster" bodyguards hold the drummer hostage.

"(Steven's) brother and his new 'manager' hired these thug gangster guys that are cholo-like wannabe gangster dudes to watch over Steven," Tarsha said in the interview according to BW&BK. "They are telling me stories about how they've got him handcuffed to the wall and to the furniture in his own house. They won't even uncuff him to go to the bathroom, so you've got Steven Adler sh*tting and pissing his own pants. They're abusing the guy. They're abusing him, dudes. I don't support what they're doing, and I told them that.

"The way I found that out was this guy (the new 'manager') called me up, and he's telling me, 'Yeah, I had to keep Steven in line. I had to handcuff him until he sh*t his own pants'. I'm like, 'are you kidding me, dude?' I'm like, 'That's not cool'. Steven lost control of his life a long time ago, and he's lost even more control of it now. The problem is that he can't control himself, so he looks to the people around him to tell him what to do, to tell him how to think, to tell him what he should do. That's the problem right now. He screws people over based on the information he's getting from the people that are supporting him... or not supporting him. He's like a puppet. He has the name. He has the fame. He has the money, and he's easily influenced by whoever is closest to him. That's really what I think is going on right now. "

That's just the tip of the iceburg you can listen to the interview - here

Fatal Van Crash for Cult Band
antiMusic reports: Tragedy struck Brooklyn cult rockers The Bottom of the Hudson Sunday night as they headed home after concluding an east coast tour. Bassist Trevor Butler was killed after the tire blew out in the van the band was traveling in and drummer Greg Lytle is currently in the ICU at a North Carolina hospital.

The band's label, Absolutely Kosher Records, issued the following statement: Philadelphia/Brooklyn band Bottom of the Hudson suffered a serious van wreck on Sunday, July 29th, while returning home after the final date of a short East Coast tour to promote their new album, Fantastic Hawk, released just two weeks ago on July 17. While on I-40 near Clinton, NC, a tire blew out sending the van out of control and flipping it multiple times. Bassist Trevor Butler was killed in the accident and drummer Greg Lytle is currently in ICU in Chapel Hill, NC. The other members of the band, Eli Simon, Michael Prince and William Chesterton Chambers, suffered minor injuries and were released from the hospital.- read the rest of the statement and find out how you can help his family here

Band Robbed Following Gig
antiMusic reports: Atlanta noise rockers Deerhunter became the hunted Friday night at their homecoming gig. The band had just concluded a performance at Lenny's in Atlanta when lead singer Bradford Cox and guitarist Lockett Pundt were robbed at gunpoint.

Cox described what happened on his blog: We got a friendly homecoming surprise last night in Atlanta when Lockett and I got robbed at gunpoint after our show at Lenny's last night. We literally had just walked off the stage and I was pretty wasted. Lockett was trying to take care of me and get me home. He grabbed my guitar and my stuff and we walked to his car which was parked about a block away from Lenny's because it was so crowded. I heard a commotion behind us but like I said I was pretty out of it. I just opened the door to the car and collapsed in the passenger seat. Then I heard all this yelling and I hear this loud metallic banging on the window and look up and there is a gun in my face and a guy yelling "get the f*ck out the car man" - the rest of his story is here

The Battle For New Order
antiMusic reports: The battle for New Order is underway as the former bass player has threatened to sue his ex-bandmates if they carry on with the band. Peter Hook fired the first shot in the battle when he announced that the band had broken up. Not so, said singer Bernard Sumner and drummer Stephen Morris earlier this month in a statement. And Hook has responded with a threat of legal action.

Hook took to his Myspace blog on Friday to respond to Sumner and Morris statement that the band was still very much together. Under the heading of "Disappointment!" Hook wrote, "never assume anything! This group has SPLIT UP! you are no more new order than i am! you may have two thirds but dont assume you have the rights to do anything NEW ordery cos you dont ive still got a third! But am open to negotiation."

He had a lot more to say and not as kind as that- read it all here

Twista McDropped From Concert
antiMusic reports: Fast food burgers and fast food music don't mix when the music is served with a side of controversy. That's the case for rapper Twista and fast food giant McDonalds. The McCompany has dropped the McMC from their nationwide concert series due to concern over his "fresh" rhymes.

Twista was due to perform at his hometown stop on the 10-city nationwide McTour when it hit Chicago on August 7th but McDonalds had second thoughts after discovering that his raps... shock... contain dirty language and references to drug use. So sadly, Twista's booking has gone the way of McDonald's original fries... down the McTube. We really do miss those fries.- Find out what both sides had to say about this McControversy

Ozzy To Continue Tour
antiMusic reports: Ozzy won't let a little thing like a blood clot surgery get in his way. After word leaked out that Osbourne was hospitalized after a tour stop in Denver on Saturday, the rocker announced late Sunday night on the official Ozzfest site that the show would go on without him missing any stops on the tour.

Ozzy Osbourne underwent "outpatient" surgery for a blood clot on Saturday and was released Sunday morning. The Latest Led Zeppelin Reunion Rumor
antiMusic reports: Hey did you hear? Led Zeppelin are going to reunite! This news is starting to sound a little like Chicken Little or announcements that the new Guns N' Roses album has a firm release date. But the rumor persists and Launch is fueling the fire with a report that the surviving members of the band are in "talks" for a full blown reunion, despite the fact that the surviving members vowed never to tour under the Led Zeppelin name after the death of drummer John Bonham.

Of course their report cites unnamed "reports" so the news may have come from Willie the butcher or Rick the record store guy but there are reports that "The surviving members of Led Zeppelin are in talks to reform and play live in 2008". - the possible reason for this latest rumor?

Alkaline Trio Sign Epic Deal
PR reports: After ten years, over a million records sold, and an infinite string of acclaimed tours, Chicago's genre breaking Alkaline Trio have joined the Epic Records family and plan to release an album of new material.

This signing marks the first major label for Alkaline Trio, something the band sees as a natural progression. So says lead singer and guitarist, Matt Skiba, "We are thrilled to be a part of the Epic family and to join a great musical lineage that has hugely influenced our lives over the years. Andy Gershon is someone we've grown to trust and admire, and who is truly an Alkaline Trio fan. We look forward to a long and prosperous relationship with Epic."

At the completion of their Warped Tour run, the band will head in to the studio to complete their eighth full-length release.- dates are to be found here

Frank Zappa Street
antiMusic reports: AC/DC are not the only rock icons to be honored with their very own street. Add legendary musical mindbender Frank Zappa to that list. That's right. The city of Berlin have honored the late Zappa with his very own street in the eastern part of the city.

Frank Zappa Strasse, formerly Street 13, lies in an industrial area in the eastern part of the city that was once behind the Iron Curtain. The street is home to Orwo Haus, a former Communist-era film factory that now provides practice studios for more than 160 bands, according to AP. - more on this story
