Twista McDropped From Concert

07/31/07
.
(antiMusic) Fast food burgers and fast food music don't mix when the music is served with a side of controversy. That's the case for rapper Twista and fast food giant McDonalds. The McCompany has dropped the McMC from their nationwide concert series due to concern over his "fresh" rhymes.

Twista was due to perform at his hometown stop on the 10-city nationwide McTour when it hit Chicago on August 7th but McDonalds had second thoughts after discovering that his raps... shock... contain dirty language and references to drug use. So sadly, Twista's booking has gone the way of McDonald's original fries... down the McTube. We really do miss those fries.

"Although we respect free speech and artistic expression, we do not condone or perpetuate derogatory language," McSpokesman William Whitman said in a statement. "We want to ensure these free concerts are fun as well as appropriate for all of our customers."

Twista told the Associated Press that he blames racial paranoia in the wake of the Don Imus mess. "They started hearing things ... feeling like they were getting a little flak, and I felt like rather than stick by me and stick through it, they got scared," he said. "I've been rapping the same way for 15 years. It only became a problem when Don Imus said something negative about black women and they needed a scapegoat."
