antiMusic reports: This week we celebrate
the DIY spirit of Brad Skistimas, better known as Five Times August, who
not only turned down major label deals to stay indie but does everything
on his own resulting in over 100,000 in sales at online digital stores
like iTunes, placed nine songs from his album on television shows like
MTV's "Laguna Beach," the CW's "One Tree Hill," etc. And he has become
the very first unsigned artist to have a CD carried by retail giant Wal-Mart.
This week we asked Brad to pick five of favorite songs from the "Independent"
album and tell us a little bit about them.
Here is Brad to tell us about "First Time
For Everything": I met a girl in Austin and we had one of the best first
dates I'll ever have in my life (that, I am sure of). The relationship
didn't last forever, but of course the memories always will. I went back
to Austin a few weeks after we broke up and found myself in the places
we began. I wrote this song as soon as I got back home from the trip. For
anybody interested in seeing a
historical mark in musical history...
the "place we met" is actually the Taco Bell on Guadalupe St. by the UT
campus. Romantic indeed.
Have a listen for yourself and if you like
what you hear, support true Indie music by picking up the Five Times August
CD or buying the download!

antiMusic reports: Talk about finding a hidden
treasure. A New Jersey man unwittingly purchased a cache of unreleased
Jackson 5 recordings that he now hopes to release to the public. Unlike
other "lost song" findings, this one appears to be a mother load with almost
60 tracks discovered.
Richard Altomare, the boss of luggage movement
company Universal Express, bought a collection of unclaimed personal belongings
from the warehouse, according to Contact Music. When he was going through
the belongings he discovered tapes reported to contain almost 60 unreleased
songs by The Jackson 5.
Contact Music reports that Altomare says
he is negotiating with Sony as well as Michael Jackson and his sister Janet
in hopes of releasing the material.- more

antiMusic reports: Van Halen are back and
their tickets are definitely going at 2007 prices not 1984s. The biggest
reunion of the year should make a bundle for the band but non-VIP ticket
prices are actually a value when compared to other artists that don't have
the excuse of a "reunion" tour to overcharge fans.
The first batch of tickets go on sale Saturday
morning at 10 AM and it looks like if you want to witness David Lee Roth
"Jump" back on stage with Eddie and Alex Van Halen it is going to set you
back at least $60 (not counting the Ticketmaster monopoly charges). The
nosebleed seats are going for $59.50, while the mid range tickets are $79.50
and the most expensive non VIP tickets will set you back $149.50 each.
The top tickets are still half of what Bon Jovi are bilking fans for the
best tickets to their arena run in New Jersey and $75 less than the top
Police reunion ticket prices. Wait just a minute. the story changes when
you consider that for this tour VIP seats require VIP prices.
If you want premium tickets to the Van
Halen reunion then you better get ready to breakout the platinum card as
they will run between $300 and $695.- more

antiMusic reports: BBC Radio 1 is celebrating
their 40th birthday in an unusual way by asking some of today's stars to
cover the songs of yesteryear. Each of the 40 years of Radio 1 will be
represented by a cover tune and there are some unusual match-ups like rapper
The Streets covering Elton John's "Your Song" and The Kooks take on the
Ace of Base hit "All That She Wants".
The Kaiser Chiefs will kick off the release
with their version of The Move's "Flowers in the Rain," the very first
song played on Radio 1. The album, titled Radio 1. Established 1967, will
be released on Roctober 1st says the BBC.
The tracklisting has been let out of the
bag but the BBC cautions that the recordings have not been completed so

antiMusic reports: Ryan Adams tells Rolling
Stone that he's staying clean from cocaine, heroin and alcohol after using
the lethal combination to keep going while recording.
"I'd wake up, work, go for a drink or two
and be exhausted," Adams told Rolling Stone. "I would have drugs to keep
my physical being going in order to never have to stop working in the night."
Adams also had a bit more effective warning
about staying away from drugs than the old' "Just Say No" line. "Think
about falling off a bicycle and smashing your nuts on that bar, or the
most horrible sports accident you can think of," Adams said. "That doesn't
cover what it would be like for me to imagine drinking or doing drugs again."-

antiMusic reports: The last stop on the Violent
Femmes tour is the court house. Bassist Brian Ritchie is suing his bandmate
Gordon Gano for misappropriation of assets, improper accounting and nonpayment
of royalties. He also accuses Gano of selling out the band's reputation
by licensing a song for a fast food commercial.
Ritchie filed the suit in U.S. District
Court in Manhattan on Wednesday. According to Contact Music, Ritchie is
seeking to be "recognized as half owner of the eighties band's songs and
wants an account of past and future royalties as well as unspecified damages."

PR reports: Dance music is the latest bandwagon
Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee has jumped on and now the trend chaser says
that he is "over" rock and admits that the Motley sound is "cheesy".
When Club Planet asked Lee about his favorite
DJs he gave his list but ended with an admission that rock music doesn't
rock him anymore. "I like Benny Benassi, Adam Freeland, Erick Morillo
Erick
and I've done a couple of things together. I can't believe it's such a
shock that I like dance music, because any time I've done anything with
drums, I've always incorporated electro s***, always, always, always! When
I'm at home, dance music is all I listen to! I'm actually kinda over rock
music," Lee said.
Club Planet then asked him to repeat that
bold statement and he responded, "I really am! If I sit-down to write a
song, it's definitely gonna have beats
but, just the old drum sound or
cheesy rock guitars
I'm just like, ugh! I'm just tired of the same-ole."
He called it cheesy we didn't, so no hate
mail from 40 year spandex clad groupies please.- You
