(Gibson) Arcade Fire are working on the follow up to 2010's award-winning The Suburbs. In an interview with Ottawa radio station CKCU, the band's drummer Jeremy Gara says they hope for it to be ready by the end of 2013."We are just working like we always have," said Gara. "We took a couple months off and we've been writing songs. Now we're in the studio pretty much full-time just doing what we do. And we kind of shut the door. We haven't really gone out and done anything in over a year now. We haven't done photos or interviews or anything. We're just working on music and growing beards and living at home a lot and going out to dinner together." Gara admitted the band were taking their time, saying that Arcade Fire work at their own pace with no firm deadlines from managers or recording label. "We're not that far into a record, but we've been working for a few months now," he said. more on this story

(CBS Local) While the contentious court case between pop star/X Factor judge Britney Spears and her former manager Sam Lufti continues to broil in Los Angeles, some rather interesting (and somewhat disconcerting) news has emerged from the proceedings. As reported by the Daily News, during Lufti's testimony he announced that he's working with former Hole frontwoman Courtney Love on something big in conjunction with the legacy of Nirvana. "[Courtney Love and I] are currently working on a possible motion picture or Broadway musical based on the Nirvana catalog, based on her life and Kurt Cobain's," Lufti surprisingly announced during his court testimony, adding the he's currently co-managing Love. But when he was pressed directly about the musical, Lufti was reticent to confirm or deny anything regarding the alleged Nirvana musical/movie. more on this story

(hennemusic) Megadeth kick off the North American portion of their "Countdown To Extinction 20th Anniversary Tour" on November 9 in Providence, RI. Before the North American dates begin, the group are headed into the studio to begin work on a new album.Dave Mustaine has issued the following update: Last Thursday I went to see an ENT (ear, nose, and throat Doctor), to find out the status of the damage to my vocal chords that they discovered prior to my surgery, and my neck from after the surgery. I was told during the first MRIs that I had a cyst or something on my vocal chords, and I didn't give it anymore thought, because the fusion was way more important. I still find it laughable that someone I know said I was a p****y while lying in an ER awaiting spinal surgery for contemplating cancelling the BIG 4 show in NYC. I guess the old saying, "You spot it - you got it!" applies here. Except I don't want to offend our female fans by comparing this excrement to a body part of theirs. I walked away from the surgery, which was done after the concert (who's the p****y now?) and was a complete success, thinking I had nodes or polyps or something, and I wanted to wait until a year after the surgery to go get checked, because I just didn't want to go under the knife again that soon, if of course I had too. Thank God I don't. Fortunately, if you can say that, my problem with my vocal chords is treatable. Read the rest here.

Suffocation fans can rest easy, frontman Frank Mullen is not leaving the group, but he does plan to cut back on his involvement. He has updated fans about the misunderstanding a recent interview created about his future with the band: "I am not leaving Suffocation," commented Mullen. "Massive one month long touring on my side cannot be done anymore though. When the new album is released next year I will be touring as much as possible to support the album as well as the following year in 2014." "When I was asked that question in the interview I was taken off guard and didn't really know what my schedule was going to look like next year and wanted to try and answer. I haven't given much thought to what our touring schedule would look like since we've been in the studio recording the new release. So I'm going to be getting out there as much as I can to support the album and get out there in front of the ones who have supported Suffocation over the years, the true fans. So we are going to be supporting this record as soon as it comes out" more on this story

(hennemusic) On Tuesday, Japanese distiller Suntory Liquors will release a limited edition of its blended whisky, "Rolling Stones 50th Anniversary Whisky," as part of the Stones Bar series. The limited-edition run is limited to 150 bottles. This whisky is a blend of carefully selected malts distilled and casked in milestone years throughout the band's 50 year history, including a malt from the year the band formed that has been long-aged in mizunara (Japanese oak) casks. Its weighty, complex aroma calls to mind both dried and ripened fruits, and even cacao and espresso, and its rich heaviness and slight bitterness expand in the mouth with a velvety smoothness. The aftertaste is a pleasant and expansive woodiness akin to the fragrance of the finest aloeswood, and a soft smokiness. The Rolling Stones 50th Anniversary Whisky is bottled in a crystal bottle designed around the band's iconic lips and tongue logo. The bottle features the logo cut in relief on the front of the bottle, and a diamond-shaped decorative stopper. The bottle comes in a stylish box modeled after a black sofa. more on this story

(CBS Local) It's difficult to match the uniqueness of Paul McCartney's 1979 holiday original, the now-classic "Wonderful Christmastime," so jolly old saint Macca isn't even trying. He's released his new Christmas song for streaming. The track is a cover, as most holiday songs tend to be, of the Christmas standard "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)." The jazzy rendition sounds as though McCartney is lightly caressing his fingers over the piano keys and giving his most elegant croon. The mood of the whole thing certainly fits in line with McCartney's most recent album, 2012′s Kisses on the Bottom, a collection of classic pop covers. Listen to it here.

(Gibson) How did high school dances end before November 8, 1971? That's the date that Led Zeppelin released a promotional disc to FM rock stations that would become the world's most-played radio hit and cross over to teen-packed auditoriums everywhere, "Stairway To Heaven." It was an unlikely on-air success at eight-minutes long, but in the early '70s FM DJs could still play the full-length version of "Inna Gadda Da Vida," Iron Butterfly's 17-minute bathroom break anthem. And the length of "Stairway," plus the song's long quiet build-up, made it perfect for slow dancing until the explosive finale, which provided an outlet for the hormonal energy that the slow dancing generated. The song that Gibson Les Paul legend Jimmy Page described as "crystallizing the band" started taking form in 1970 during Page and Robert Plant's famous songwriting vacation in rural Wales at a cottage called Bron-Yr-Aur. Page developed the acoustic opening section there, and Plant wrote the initial verse. By the time the entire band regrouped at the Headley Grange rehearsal and recording building in East Hampshire, England, Page had several distinct pieces of electric and acoustic music that he felt were related to that initial theme. While Page tried to weave the sections together with drummer John Bonham and bassist and keyboardist John Paul Jones, Plant sat in a corner, writing. When he stood up and started singing, about 80-percent of the lyrics for "Stairway To Heaven" were complete. Led Zeppelin cut the basic rhythm tracks for "Stairway To Heaven" in December 1970 at Basing Street Studios in London. Plant cut his vocals in early 1971 at Headley Grange. Then Page retuned to Basing Street to cut his solos. Initially it went poorly. Page couldn't quite hit the mark after a number of passes. According to Jones, he could see concern in Page's eyes, so Jones broke the tension by turning toward the guitar wizard and declaring, "You're making me paranoid!" Page shot back, "You're making me paranoid!" And with the air cleared by laughter he nailed the solo's elaborate architecture in a few more passes. Page saw "Stairway" as a successor to "Dazed and Confused," an epic musical adventure in several movements. As for Plant, he'd drawn on Scottish folklorist Lewis Spence for his lyrics. more on this story

(Gibson) Guitar great Eric Clapton is preparing for his 50th anniversary tour next year and in a recent post on his official website, Clapton broke the news that, indeed, he has been recording a new studio album that will reach fans' ears in early 2013. It's a good time then to look a bit closer at the man they called 'God"He's the only artist who's been inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times. In 1992, Clapton received his first induction into the Rock and Hall of Fame, for his membership in the The Yardbirds. A year later, he was again inducted for his role in the legendary power trio, Cream. Finally, in 2000, he was inducted as a solo artist in the very first year in which he was eligible. He would have gotten a fourth Rock Hall induction, had he been successful in his quest in join another "Band." "I first met Eric in Los Angeles around the time Music from Big Pink came out," The Band's Robbie Robertson told Spinner, earlier this year. "[Later] he came to our house in Woodstock to visit with us. I thought he was just curious but then he said years later that the real reason was that he had come to join The Band. I made a joke out of it, saying, 'Were you implying that we need a new guitar player?'" Ironically, Clapton presented The Band with their Rock Hall induction in 1994. The one instance in which he believed he might retire from music was
when he left The Yardbirds. "The Yardbirds were determined to have a hit and I was determined not to be involved with that," Clapton told Larry King, in 1998. "I actually thought I was going to retire. I was 18 years old, and I thought, it's over. Every band I looked at had the same agenda: Let's get a hit record and recording contract. And I kind of went, and then what? For me, the road was about a different thing altogether." Read the rest here.
