Anthrax Star Goes Disney
That headline wasn't a misprint. Read on: A few months ago, Disney Product Developers Holli McHugh and Donald Ferro teamed up with Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante to create an epic new vinyl - "Vinylmation" that is.

These new collectible figures are the hottest craze to hit Disney Parks & Resorts. Based on the character Mickey Mouse, the Vinylmation figures take on different looks, urban styles and characters, and often depict different Disney park attractions and icons.

Benante knew at a young age there was art and music in his blood. A Disney fan from the start, it was Walt Disney's "Fantasia" that led him to get hooked on creating art in all forms, as well as his love for Mickey Mouse and the flawless and seamless animation that only Disney could provide. - more on this story

Robert Plant Slams Black Sabbath
(Rock Radio) Led Zeppelin icon Robert Plant has compared Black Sabbath to 60s pop star Bobby Goldsboro in a light-hearted ribbing.

Zep and Sabbath used to rehearse in the same studios, with Sabs drummer Bill Ward having said Plant and co used to "come in and interrupt us" and rumours abounding that tapes exist of the bands jamming together in the late 1960s.

But speaking on Canadian radio Plant suggests that Sabbath are no more relevant than the man who sang the tearjerking hit Honey – and Led Zep drummer John Bonham always told Tony Iommi's outfit they were no good. Asked about Black Sabbath he replies: "Who? They'll go a long way and they'll influence a lot of people in Seattle. Lovely, great, yeah. And what would you do without Bobby Goldsboro as well? - more on this story

Randy Rhoads Family Recount Quiet Riot Formation
Gibson spoke with Randy Rhoads' brother Kelly and sister Kathy about their legendary brother to celebrate the release of a new Randy Rhoads Les Paul Custom. Here is a small excerpt from that exchange where Kelly discusses the formation of Quiet Riot:

Kelly: Well there were a lot of bands before Quiet Riot if truth be told.... There was a band called the Katzenjammer Kids. They had a band called The Horror, and my brother had the tallest platform shoes I had ever seen in my life. It looked like he was half leg and half stilts. That was a very significant band, very glittered out, very glam, because that was the first band where Randy played in Hollywood. He actually got into Rodney Bingenheimer, who is a ridiculous local figure [L.A. disc jockey]. He got in and was playing at Rodney's English disco club in that band. There was also a band he was in for a short while called Mildred Pierce. So you've got three bands, actually almost four bands, and a lot of different experiments before he actually formed Quiet Riot. Randy formed Quiet Riot. He didn't come up with the idea for the name, but he did start the band that became Quiet Riot, and he did pick the people that were in it.

Gibson: Do you know what sort of the process he used to pull guys in? I assume that Kelly Garni was playing bass, right? Kelly: Kelly was kind of like my brother's sidekick, and with all those bands I just named, the two people that were the common denominator were Kelly and Randy. The rest of the people, the drummers and the singers, were on a rotating scale. So Randy and Kelly auditioned Kevin [DuBrow] right in my mom's dining room, while my mom was in the kitchen. So he came to the house and Drew, the drummer in the band, he was like a stage drummer, like a jazz drummer at Burbank High, which is one of the high schools here in our town. My brother knew of him and they asked him to join the band. That's where all the members came from. - Read the full interview here

Cold War Kids Announce New Album and Tour
Cold War Kids will release their third studio album, Mine is Yours, via Downtown Records on January 25th 2011.

The band enlisted Jacquire King (Kings of Leon, Tom Waits, Norah Jones, Modest Mouse) to produce and record the eleven song collection over a period of three months in Nashville TN, and Los Angeles, CA.

"I got home from tour and realized I was married. All my friends had either jumped in the deep end of a relationship or had drowned. When did things get so serious? We fought growing up but the wild nights and free-for-all caught up to us. Some people got out in time and others had permanent damage. For this record, I wrote about the joys and failures of commitment all around me," says Willett. - more on this story

Paul McCartney Pondering Band on the Run Live Show
(Gibson) In a recent interview with ClashMusic, Paul McCartney discussed the trying circumstances surrounding the recording of the 'Band on the Run' album, with two of the five band members quitting the day before the band was to take off for Lagos, Nigeria to record.

"A couple of the guys [Henry McCullough and Denny Seiwell] left the band the night before we went to Lagos to make the record," he recalled. "That was like a bombshell. You can imagine me getting off that phone call. It was like, 'Ah. Okay. Try and hold your nerve; try and keep it together. What do we do now? Sod it, we're going.' And at that moment it was one of those, 'I'll show you. I will make the best album I've ever made now. I will put so much effort into it because I wanna just prove that we didn't need you guys.'"

As for plans to celebrate the album by performing it live in its entirety, Sir Paul mused, "I've been asked to do it, so I'll definitely look into it and consider it, but it's not an idea I would have ever thought of myself. It might be a cool idea, but I'm thinking about it." - more on this story

Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi Busy Writing New Music
(Gibson) Tony Iommi has been hard at work, telling the U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine, "What I'm doing now is writing. I've gone mad, writing loads of riffs again." Iommi said he is in close contact with Black Sabbath/Heaven and Hell bandmate Geezer Butler, although it is unclear if the guitarist's new work will be part of a Black Sabbath reunion.

"I'm really enjoying it, putting stuff together. We will be doing something," he said. "I'm in touch with Geezer a lot now and we've been talking about what the next phase is going to be. It'll be great to get out and do something again. I don't normally say this, but there's some great ideas coming out. That's all I've got to do right now. Sit and write riffs!"

There have been rumors of a full Black Sabbath reunion, featuring Iommi, Butler, Ozzy Osbourne and drummer Bill Ward, but the members have done little more than say they're open to the idea. - more on this story

Singled Out: Skittish
Today Jeff Noller from Minnesota folk-rockers Skittish tells us about "Love Songs and Lullabyes" from their brand new double-album "The Perfect Shade of Green". Here is the story:

The song "Love Songs and Lullabyes" was written in October of last year when I was in the depths of my scary movie marathons. I wanted a love song from the perspective of someone whose feeling the same kind of love every 'normal' person does, but just expresses it in a different way.

I tend to feel for the lonely serial killers and monsters who usually smother that which they love. Thus the lyrics about wanting to "brick you up in my basement." That's the character's way of keeping their love safe and secure, it's just a little messed up. Which leads into the lyrics of "don't feed me no love songs, don't feed me no lullabyes now." Which essentially is saying that there is no 'right' way to love someone or something. The fact that you do it at all is good enough.

Recording this song was a bit of a hassle because of the time changes. We went back and forth with this song trying to decide if it should be in 3/4 or 4/4...eventually we just did both. The main, low, hit going throughout the song is me hitting my clothes dryer (which was in the basement next to my recording set up), and the metallic clicks and clonks are the sounds of me locking and unlocking my studio deadbolt.

Lastly, we filled out the mandolin solo part with us banging on trash cans. Every Celtic flavored folk/rock song needs some trash cans!

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!

(hennemusic)WENN reports that that Pete Briquette, former bassist with The Boomtown Rats, has ruled out the possibility of a reunion of the band

Briquette says the members have had too many "disputes" to work together again as a unit.

Bryan Ferry On The Future of Roxy Music
(Gibson) Bryan Ferry has said that if Roxy Music work together on a new album, it will be "abstract and experimental." In an interview about his forthcoming album, the famous frontman dispelled rumors that Olympia began as a Roxy project.

"I started working on most of these songs as a solo project and then I toyed with the idea of turning it into a Roxy album. But it just didn't feel right, so it became a solo record again," he said. "In the interim, most of the guys from the Roxy world did some playing on a couple of the tracks. It's nice to have them in small cameo roles. I still do shows with Roxy, but if I were to do another Roxy album, it'd be much more abstract and experimental than this record, which is more song-based."

Ferry said that he feels a drive to do something more experimental, and even brought up the idea of doing a film soundtrack. "That could be a useful Roxy project 'cause they're very good soloists and great at doing textures," he said. - more on this story

Duran Ronson Duran Coming
(Gibson) Amy Winehouse producer-turned-artist (and stepson of Foreigner's Mick Jones), Mark Ronson seems less concerned about the success of his recent Record Collection album than he does his current production work for new wave dynamos Duran Duran.

He told Scotland's Daily Record newspaper: "The Duran Duran album is out at the end of this year and it is just great. That is the thing, other than my own album, which has taken up most of the past year. As flattered as I was to be asked to work with them, I had no interest in making a mediocre record, so we worked through every single bit, from lyrics to hi-hats, to really make an incredible album. This is a really great record. It's in the same league as their first two, with great songs.

"They sound hungry and it is exciting for me to take my first favorite band and make a song with them, that I can now hear and say honestly it's one of my favorites they have done." - more on this story

Al Pacino Will Reportedly Play Phil Spector
(Gibson) The Guardian reports that Al Pacino is to play the role of notorious record producer Phil Spector. HBO is reported to be producing a movie on Spector's life with Rain Man director Barry Levinson and writer David Mamet.

Phil Spector is responsible for some of the biggest hits of the '60s including The Ronettes' "Be My Baby" and the Righteous Brothers' "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin" and for developing the so-called "wall of sound." He produced The Beatles' Let it Be album and worked with John Lennon and George Harrison on solo projects. In 1989, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a non-performer.

He's currently serving a 19 years-to-life sentence for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson. Pacino's agent, John L.
