The Carl Verheyen Band has announced three special shows in November. Led by Supertramp lead guitarist Carl Verheyen and featuring world renowned percussionist Walfredo Reyes, Jr. and top call session player Dave Marotta on bass, the band will play a set including tracks from their latest critically acclaimed CD. Admired by fans and peers alike, you never know who will join the band on stage for a dose of hot jams and guitar wizardry.
"This unit is the best I've had and I'm overjoyed when the music we make together is much bigger than the sum of its parts, which happens every time we get together," said Verheyen. "The open spaces and our telepathic ability to turn on a dime is only possible in a tight three piece such as ours."
The long awaited tour dates are as follows:
November 17 Anthology San Diego
November 18 Canyon Club Agoura Hills
November 19 Brixton/Dive Redondo Bch
Carl Verheyen is regarded as a guitar genius capable of playing any style of music with remarkable mastery and conviction. He has been one of LA's elite "first call" session players for the past 25 years, playing on hundreds of records, movie soundtracks and television shows. An avid songwriter in his own right, he formed the band as an outlet to record and perform his original material, resulting in 10 CDs to date. This incarnation of the CVB has been together four years and has selectively toured the east and west coasts as well as launched several European tours where they enjoy a solid fan base.
"The appreciation shown by our audiences all over the world proves to me that people are really drawn by the improvisation possible in this group," says Verheyen. "I'm proud to say that with Dave and Walfredo, it occurs on a very high level."
On Trading 8s, the latest CD, the band is joined by a cavalcade of top notch guitarists including Joe Bonamassa, Steve Morse, Robben Ford and others. The record earned rave reviews from music critics across the board including journalist Bob Putiganano who wrote: "Not only does he play extraordinarily well, but Carl also has superb timing, great tone and an outstanding feel for his instrument. This one is a must-have for those who appreciate quality music; Trading 8s is sheer guitar artistry at its best." Standout tracks include "New Year's Day," "Highway 27" and a cover of the Beatles classic "Taxman."
The Carl Verheyen Band shows in November will be the only opportunity to see the band live this year. A live DVD , The Road Divides, is scheduled for release this winter.
