When decisions are made about something I always try to figure out the angle. I don't completely trust them but I don't think they completely trust me either. It's a two-way street. Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck Reunion?
(Gibson) Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck are considering a recording project, one of several new albums Stewart hopes to make now that he has decided to end to his Songbook series, after Fly Me to the Moon... The Great American Songbook, Volume V is released on October 19.

Stewart told Billboard he hoped to record blues and country albums. "And I may record with Jeff Beck, and I may have to write a few songs… I've got a meeting with Jeff in a couple weeks in London, and we're going to see if we can work together and see what each of us wants to do. We're a little bit older now and we can tolerate each other."

Stewart said his songwriting style had become much looser since the Jeff Beck Group days. "Songwriting, let me tell you, was something that was thrust upon me," he said. "When we were in the Jeff Beck Group, we said, 'OK, let's see if we can do something original,' because everybody was trying to write songs then. This was the late '60s. Woody [Ronnie Wood] started strumming and he said, 'Would you write the lyrics?' And I said, 'Me? What? I've never written a song in my life!' So we wrote a couple songs as the Jeff Beck Group and we never looked back." -

Chickenfoot May Replace Chad
(Rock Radio) Joe Satriani says he'd love Tommy Lee to replace Chad Smith in Chickenfoot if the Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer can't fulfill his obligations with the supergroup.

Satch, Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony are gearing up to record their second album with Smith in January – but the skinbeater's duties with his main band could keep him from touring the record.

"We just did two shows with Chad and they were fantastic. Afterwards he said he's still committed to the band, so that was cool. I'm not worried about him completing the album. As for touring – we'll have to see. Obviously he's going to be pretty busy." Satch says in an interview. - more on this story

30 Seconds to Kanye West
(Gibson) The collaboration between 30 Seconds to Mars and Kanye West will see the light of day soon, frontman Jared Leto told MTV News.

A Kanye-less version of the track, "Hurricane," was included on the band's latest album, This Is War, because the rapper's contribution couldn't be cleared in time for the album's December 2009 release. At the time, Leto vowed that the recording would be Released some day. Now he says the band hopes West will even be available to shoot a video for the song.

"Let's put it this way: It's a collision of two worlds, and I think it's a completely unexpected surprise," Leto said. "He's not only on the track, but he's phenomenal on the track... It's one of the strongest things that he's done, in my opinion. It is a song that's on the darker side of things. It's the flipside of 'Kings and Queens' – which has a through line of optimism and hope, and a really strong spirit to it – this song explores a different territory, and his lyrics do the same. His singing is incredible on it, and he's done a lot of really wonderful work, and I think this only adds to his work as a whole. Working with him was an incredible experience." -

Atheist Return With First Album in 17 Years
Atheist will release, Jupiter, their first new album in 17 years, on November 9th through Season of Mist (Nov 8th outside the U.S.). Here is what the label has to say about the release:

In the late 80's and early 90's, this band, alongside fellow Floridians Death and Cynic, handcrafted the sub-genre that spawned bands such as Mesghuggah, Between The Buried And Me and Mudvayne.

Atheist once again shows technical metal who's boss. This highly anticipated album is full of dizzying twists and turns. A collection of songs easily as brutal, if not more so, than 1991's "Unquestionable Presence" which is considered by many to be the alpha album of this extreme style. - more on this story

U2 Debut Spider-Man Song
(Gibson) U2 unveiled new a track from Bono and The Edge's forthcoming Spider-Man musical at a concert in Portugal on Sunday.

According to the band's website, the performance of the song "Boy Falls From the Sky" before a 55,000 capacity audience marked the sixth unreleased track played by the band on their current European tour.

Although it was the first time U2 have played the song, Sunday's performance wasn't its public debut. "Boy Falls From the Sky" was performed by singer-songwriter and actor Reeve Carney on Good Morning America on September 10 for the launch of Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark. Carney will stomp the boards (and, presumably, swing from the rafters on some manner of wrist-firing web mechanism) as Peter Parker and Spider-Man when the production debuts at Foxwoods Theater in New York City on December 21. Previews begin on November 14. - more on this story

Rob Zombie Exposes Alice Coopers Dark Secret
(Gibson) For most of October, macabre musicians Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie are teaming up on the Halloween Hootenanny tour. The trek, which began on September 30, came after the two stars toured together on seven dates in the summer. Zombie recently said that he discovered one of Alice's dark secrets during their time together.

"Here's the thing: he loves to shop, so he's always shopping. So every day he would show up at the gig with a new gift for me," Zombie said about the recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominee.

"First day he came back with a, it's a little pig that when you turn it on it rolls around on the floor laughing hysterically like it can't breathe. And then the next day he brought me a Vanilla Ice tour shirt, which I don't think he thought I would wear. So, of course, I wore it the next day to the meet-and-greet we did together just to prove a point." - more on this story

Singled Out: Logan
Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Mick Coll from Logan tells us about "Jump In Again" from their brand new album "The Great Unknown," which was released today. We now turn it over to Mick for the story:

A few months ago no one in the band would ever have suspected that 'Jump In Again' would be our debut offering to the world. It was a song that had pretty much slipped off of the band radar.

On the run up to recording the album we managed to get around about 22 songs recorded at a demo level. The problem being, a good chunk of these songs were jammed out in the studio one day, recorded the next, and forgotten about the day after that… "Jump In Again" was one of those songs.

It was during our first conference call with producer, Keith Olsen, that the song reared its head again. Keith was naming some of the tracks on from our 'demo bank' that he thought would make the album. He was raving about this song called 'Jump In Again'. Steve and I were looking at each other, completely puzzled. Neither of us were immediately aware what song he was talking about. It turns out that the rest of the guys were in the same boat as us. We dug the song out later and yeah we liked it. We still didn't think it had hit single written over it though.

When it came to rehearsing the song during pre-production, we found it one of the easier and more enjoyable songs to play. It also translated really well to being played acoustically, which is in my opinion one of the signs of a killer song.

During the recording process 'Jump In Again' quickly grew into a monster. It was one of the first tracks to have all the parts down for it… and then came the string section. At this point everyone knew that the song had developed into something pretty special. When we flew to LA to begin the mixing, 'Jump In Again' was the first track to be fully mixed and completely finalized. We took the song over to the house of our American Manager to play it back through his (very impressive) media system.

As the final chords rang out and the strings faded away, we all sat silent with big smiles on our faces. George, our American Manager (who is generally a very quiet guy and rarely curses) just uttered the words:

"Now THAT'S a f**kin' hit!!"

The song itself is about jumping into a relationship too quickly. In particular going from one bad relationship straight into another, even more horrific one, and becoming trapped.

The lyrics "Push just a little too far / Take just a little too much" describe the extreme treatment placed upon the individual that ultimately led to him having to walk away: "I hate to leave you like this". The moral of the story is this: Don't be a crazy psychopathic jealous control freak with anger issues, and maybe you won't get dumped.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!

The Beatles Debuted On This Date in 1962
Today marks the anniversary of a real milestone in Beatles and Rock and Roll history. Gibson has the story: There are all sorts of significant events when it comes to the beginning of The Beatles – the day John and Paul met at the church fete, their first Hamburg show, Ringo's first show with the boys, etc. But this is a big one, perhaps the biggest.

On this day in 1962, The Beatles released their first single, "Love Me Do." With three chords, an R&B beat and a bluesy harmonica leading the way, this was the song that introduced the mop-topped Liverpudlians to all of Britain and would later go all the way to #1 in the U.S.

As The Beatles became famous, they would record their written material at a lightning fast pace, but "Love Me Do" had been kicking around for three or four years. Paul McCartney had written it when he was 16 while playing hooky from school. John Lennon later helped out on the middle eight. Lennon also played the song's signature harmonica riff, although there are conflicting stories on when it was added to "Love Me Do." McCartney said that producer George Martin came up with the idea, although he has said that the harmonica component of the song was what drew him to it. - more on this story

The Who's Roger Daltrey Dreams of Working With Jimmy Page But Not Clapton
The Who's Roger Daltrey goes on record about which legendary guitarist he would like to work with and which one he couldn't see himself working with.

According to BW&BK Daltrey told fans, "I've always wanted to do something with Jimmy Page . Mainly because, what the hell is he doing? What an amazing waste of a talent. He's a genius."

Working with Eric Clapton is another thing entirely, he said, "It would be very difficult for us to work together [onstage] because he's doing a very laid back blues show. I think he needs a bit of driving, does Eric. That blues stuff is alright, but you need dynamic. Never forget dynamic. I think we could do interesting things." - more on this story

Former Guns N' Roses Manager Says Adler Should Stop Living In The Past
(Gibson) Former Guns N' Roses manager Alan Niven is launching a new record label, Tru-B-Dor Records, which he hopes will reignite the public's passion for albums.

Speaking to Mitch Lafon of Bravewords.com, Niven said Tru-B-Dor would bring back the lost art of album presentation. "I'm old enough to remember the pleasure of gatefold albums," Niven said. "We lost the plot on packaging and that's detrimental to the public's feeling that they are getting a sense of value for their dollar. It's my perception that again the industry has got the wrong end of the stick. I don't think that downloading is as detrimental as everybody says it is. I have suspicion that second hand sales in major retail outlets is more problematic, but mostly what I observe is that the film industry is selling more discs because their packaging is better, the content is more readily identified (you know what you are getting) and lastly their pricing is far more aggressive."

Given his famous resume, Niven is not surprised by some of the submissions the label has received so far. "Yes, we've had our share of people who think they are the next Guns N' Roses," Niven said, "except they don't realize there is no 'next Guns N' Roses,' …but there might be a terrific new band of their own personality with its own character."

As for original G N' R drummer Steven Adler's campaign to reunite the band's classic line-up, Niven says "You cannot re-live the past and you should, at least in a creative endeavor, have one foot in the present. If Guns N' Roses were to re-unify, I personally would dearly hope that it would be substantiated by valid and new creativity in the studio with a new record and that it wouldn't just live off the past." -

Cat Power A One Woman Show
(Gibson) Indie rock star Cat Power (otherwise known as Chan Marshall) is working on the follow-up to 2008's Jukebox, and she's got some big changes planned. Taking a page from Prince's book, the smoky-voiced singer said she will play all the instruments on the album.

"I'm trying to play all the instruments myself," she told RollingStone.com. "There's an inspiration in being furious that you want to achieve your goals. I think I was inspired by being disappointed in myself that I'd just been holding the microphone and I was disappointed in myself that I hadn't been playing an instrument."

On recent tours, Marshall has been the frontwoman for her Dirty Delta Blues backing band. "I wanted to prove to myself that I could try to create a relationship with [an instrument] again and feel like I felt close to it," she said. "It's definitely there and it's a need [for me to play], but it hasn't been around."

Buddy Morrow RIP
(Gibson) Buddy Morrow, who shared the stage with everyone from Tommy Dorsey to Johnny Carson, passed away last week at the age of 91. As a trombonist and bandleader, Morrow was at the top of the swing world for over seven decades.

Morrow hit the big time in the late '30s, when he joined the Artie Shaw Orchestra. A few years later, he joined the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, and later joined Jimmy Dorsey's band, as well. In 1950, he formed his own orchestra, scoring hits with "Rose, Rose, I Love You," "Night Train," "One Mint Julep" and "Hey Mrs. Jones." In the '60s and '70s, Morrow did mostly session work, performing regularly on The Tonight Show. In 1977, Morrow took over the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, which had continued on after the legendary bandleader's death. Morrow held that post until the day he passed away. He appeared onstage with the band just three days before his death in Ormond Beach, Florida, playing his hit song, "Night Train."

Morrow is survived by his wife Carole, two daughters, a son and three grandchildren. -

Lady Antebellum Give Fans Christmas in October
(Gibson) Country music superstars Lady Antebellum are releasing a special Christmas EP on Tuesday, October 12. Titled A Merry Little Christmas, the release will be available exclusively at Target stores, according to Billboard.com. The album features five seasonal favorites, including "Silver Bells," and a new song called "On This Winter's Night."

"We recorded all of this in July," guitarist Dave Haywood said, "so it was a little bit peculiar being in the studio in the middle of July in Nashville, Tenn., 100 degrees outside, sweating, and doing a Christmas record. But we had a great time doing it. We had the studio all decorated... We brought everything we had from our houses and decorated and tried to get into the spirit. It was a fun experience."

Just because the band (which also includes Hillary Scott and Charles Kelley) are celebrating the holidays early doesn't mean that they're taking the rest of the year off. In fact Lady Antebellum are as busy as ever, promoting "Hello World," the fourth single off of the double-platinum album Need You Now. They're also on their first headlining tour, which continues through November 20, and are nominated in five categories at the CMA Awards on November 10.
