American Idol producers are keeping mum on who will be the new judges for the show but a member of Aerosmith tells a major newspaper that Steven Tyler will be a judge on the show and Tyler's one time "Toxic Twin" isn't too happy about it. Bryan Wawzenek of Gibson.com reports: Joe Perry told the Boston Herald that bandmate Steven Tyler will be a judge on the next season of American Idol. "We're told it's a done deal," the Aerosmith guitarist said. The claim backs up what Tyler's recent comment to press, that his plans include "recording an album and [I'm] probably going to be a judge on American Idol." The frontman then said, "I'm doing it. What do you think? I'm doing it." more SleazeRoxx expands on the Gibson report and we learn that Joe Perry is apparently not very happy about this news and how he found out about it. Quoting from the same Boston Herald interview: "I found out on the internet like the rest of the world... I mean, this is no small thing." Perry said. "I mean, after working with me for 40 years, he couldn't tell me about this... Why so secretive? We're told it's a done deal. If Steven is committed to a TV show, that kind of affects the rest of us. We'd like to plan our lives, ya know?" more

It appears that former Guns N' Roses Steven Adler has gained some perspective about his years of drug abuse. Rock Radio reports: Steven Adler believes the drug addiction which saw him being sacked from the biggest rock band in the world was a blessing in disguise. And despite his Guns N' Roses bandmates sacking him in 1990, he insists he loves them all especially singer Axl Rose. As a result, he's not bitter about his wasted opportunities. And now he's written it all down in a book, he's glad it all happened. "Drugs is a biggie. It's been the biggest waste of my life but I didn't know back then. We would have been even bigger without them look how big we were and how big we are. The drugs held everything back," Adler tells ChartAttack. "My last 20 years sucked. I would trade it for anything but then again, I wouldn't have my book. See? You never know. You think something is the worst thing in your life. But if that didn't happen the greatest things in your life wouldn't have happened."

Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today we're excited to have Ryan Star tell us about his hit song "Breathe" from his brand new album "11:59," which was released this week. We now turn it over to Ryan for the story:I was making "11:59" out in California and the person closest to me in my life was going through some tough times. I felt helpless so I penned "Breathe". A valentine to her and to everyone who can relate saying that "we will get through this together. Breathe through this moment and peace will find you." There was a line giving me some trouble so I actually called her up and asked why she liked New York so much at night. She replied "I feel like I can just run away", which is now a line in the song. The best part about the song for me is that it continues to humble me as a musician as I perform it for audiences around the world. I get so much mail from people who's words make me feel so blessed to have a song like "Breathe". It seems to be the words that a lot of people need to hear right now. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself with the song stream and you can also check out a video of Ryan performing the song acoustically

Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Todd Sapio from Language Room tells us about "In Lines" from their brand new album, which will be released on iTunes next week. We now turn it over to Todd for the story:We get used to having certain things and living our lives in certain ways and it becomes very hard to break those ways of thinking. So much so, in fact, that we become afraid of the things we don't understand and fight against them... even if those things are good for us. I wrote 'In Lines' to try and understand why we create heroes in this world and then, more often than not, look for reasons to tear them down when they show signs of weakness or fallibility, inevitable human traits. Actually, I never intended for it to be on the album but when I brought the song to the band it took on a new life. Scott wrote the verse guitar line within seconds of Caleb playing his beat idea and it all just stuck. "So we'll tear you apart like a star and we'll cradle the pieces we know we'll never be a part of. All that we ask is you keep in line." I think that we take only what we need from those who are able to do things we wish we could. The rest of them is the human part, the breakable part many don't want to see but that makes our heroes all the more amazing. We wanted to write a song that points a direction and lets the listener develop their own personal meaning. A song that offers a question without an answer. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself, watch the video and learn more about the album

Gibson.com was on hand when Slash traveled to Singapore this week for his live debut in the country as a solo artist. Here is their report: On August 2nd, Slash had a career first, as he played at Fort Canning Park in Singapore. With his ace touring band, featuring Alter Bridge's Myles Kennedy on vocals, the former Guns N' Roses and erstwhile Velvet Revolver axeman rocked the house with a mix of Guns classics, VR and Snakepit faves and a healthy selection from his hit solo album, Slash. The show opened with a teeth-rattling version of "Ghost," from Slash, and continued with "Mean Bone," from Slash's Snakepit days. But the crowd really kicked into overdrive when the band launched into Appetite classic "Nightrain." Other high points included "Civil War," "Rocket Queen," an instrumental cover of the Godfather theme, "Sweet Child o' Mine" and set closer, "Slither." For the encore, Slash played "By the Sword" (which featured Wolfmother's Andrew Stockdale on the Slash album recording) and show closer, "Paradise City."

I'm not sure how many we'll put on there. We'll go back and he might finish a lyric on one or two, or finish a harmony on one or two, but we'll keep them intact pretty much." Fake Problems have set a September 21st release date for their sophomore album, Real Ghosts Caught On Tape. According to the announcement, Real Ghosts Caught On Tape was produced by Ted Hutt (The Gaslight Anthem, Lucero) in the Spring of 2010 in Los Angeles, CA. The bright and beachy environment of Southern California shines through on the record, as does the reserved and understated vibe of these songs, such as the eerie "Songs for Teenagers" where Chris Farren poignantly delivers "Looking for drugs in all the wrong places, wanted to be famous but ended up nameless." Fake Problems are currently performing on the 2010 Warped Tour, and are certainly one of the more "left of center" bands on the tour, which has enabled them to captivate old and new fans alike as well as make new friends in each city. Fake Problems will also be supporting The Gaslight Anthem on their Fall tour in September and October. More dates for that tour to be announced shortly.

Former R.E.M. touring member Ken Stringfellow recently told NME.com that the alt-rock band's new album (due next year) features a sound closer to the early days of the band. The multi-instrumentalist (who fronts The Posies and was a latter-day member of Big Star, among other bands) got a chance to hear rough versions of the new songs when he met with R.E.M. bassist Mike Mills."It's sounding really great, very old-school," he said. "The first track had vocals which were mixed super low which I couldn't understand and I was like, 'Yes, a return to form.' Mike was on about pushing the vocals up and I was like, 'No, don't do it.'" Mills, Michael Stipe and Peter Buck have finished recording their as-yet-untitled 15th studio album with producer Jacknife Lee earlier this year. Lee also worked with the band for 2008's acclaimed Accelerate. "What's cool about classic R.E.M. is that you have an electric and acoustic guitar coming along like The Byrds," Stringfellow said. "There's a lot of that in there, there's some piano songs too, but I didn't hear a lot of crazy, freaky keyboards and vintage drum machines in there like the period when I was with them."

Necronomicon have parted ways with Diego "D" and are looking for a replacement. Diego "D" says: "After four years of hard work, it is with great regret that I announce my departure from Necronomicon. This was an utterly difficult decision to make, not only because my relationship with Rob ['The Witch' Tremblay; vocals, guitar] and Rick [drums] has always been (and probably will always be) solid and empathetic, but also due to the band's increasing popularity within the international metal scene. However, there are different professional and personal projects which I must undertake and won't be able to do simultaneously with my current band duties. It is also because of the great chemistry that binds us as a group that this resignation will not be traumatic and sudden; I will remain with the band for approximately another six months while we find a worthy replacement. "I want to thank everybody who believes in the band as strongly as I do, and may Necronomicon's evolution remain undeterred for long years to come."

Gibson.com caught up with Tommy Shannon to discuss the late, great Stevie Ray Vaughan. Here is part of the interview: What was Stevie like when you first met him, as a person and as a player? I met Johnny and Stevie at the same small club, the Fog, in Dallas. When Uncle John Tuner and me left Johnny's band, we flew back to Texas and I was standing outside the club talking to some people and I heard his guitar playing that just grabbed me. I said, "I have to go in and hear this," but instead of finding the older musician I expected to see on stage there was this little pigeon-toed kid with big ears playing his ass off. Steve was already great, although he got a lot better. He had a magic touch. But even with that, he was very humble and awkward. The other musicians treated him like a little pest because he followed everybody around. He wanted to learn so bad, from everybody he could. In the first band we played in together, Blackbird, he was just 16. Then we were in a band called the Krackerjacks. When you, Stevie and Chris got onstage in the Double Trouble years, it often seemed like magic happened. So much of our playing was intuitive. We were like a family and Stevie was my best friend in the world. I don't know how to explain what used to happen. Stevie wasn't the kind of guy who'd tell you he was going to play a new change or go somewhere with a song we'd never gone before. He'd just do it, and we went there with him. We never had any hand signals or cues. We just went. Stevie and I were always very spiritual, even when he was just a kid. We talked about spirituality a lot. And that naturally became part of the music. You get to a point where you're playing and everything's good and grooving and you're all locked in together and something starts playing through you. And you get out of the way and let it play. I think it's those times that all musicians are reaching for. It's like some energy takes over your body, and you starting playing things and going to places you've never gone before.

Nuclear Power Pants are a five-piece band of blipping, beeping, shouting, moaning, grinding, pounding, leaking craziness. This curious group is fronted by two male anti-crooners and three gorgeous, choreographed, female backup vocalists appropriately called the Redfield Librarians. The boys make the mess. Monster Magnet sideband Riotgod have announce the release of their debut album, which is set to hit on August 17th on Metalville Records. Here is the background info:In 2007 Monster Magnet's Bob Pantella and Jim Baglino created their own alternate universe under the RIOTGOD banner, inviting guitarist Garrett Sweeny and the estranged vocalist known only as Sunshine to travel the cosmos with them. Their achieved collective goal is RIOTGOD, their self-titled debut album containing some of the most energetic, recognizable and high quality Hard Rock this side of Mars. Drummer and founding member Bob Pantella spoke about the formation of RIOTGOD: "It was just Jim and myself, you know, just spending a lot of time on the road and we just had a lot of music that we wanted to create. With Monster Magnet, that's not really the case for us sometimes. That's more of Dave's thing, so we really just wanted to get together and do something a bit more on our own. There's a lot of time off and personally we like to work a lot so, the desire to do more began building up over the last couple of years.
