Sweet Apple, featuring members of Dinosaur Jr., Cobra Verde and Witch, has signed to NYC's Tee Pee Records. The indie-rock supergroup will release its debut album "Love and Desperation" on March 30, 2010.Of course, the band - Dinosaur Jr.'s J. Mascis (drums/guitar/vocals); Cobra Verde's Tim Parnin (guitar); John Petkovic (vocals/guitar) and Witch's Dave Sweetapple (bass/vocals) - eschews the whole "supergroup" tag. Sweet Apple, you see, was born by accident and friendship - out of death, after a cross-country drive. Singer-guitarist John Petkovic got in his car heading eastward days after the passing of his mother -- to smoke cigarettes, listen to music and clear his head. He didn't even know where he was going or where he'd end up.

(conqueroo) Was (Not Was), dubbed "the funkier art-funk band" by The New York Times, have spanned three decades with their mutant mix of jazz, rock, R&B and funk. On February 23, 2010, Micro Werks will release Pick of the Litter (1980-2010), a 19-song disc that opens with the ZE/Antilles 12" single "Wheel Me Out" and closes with a trio of tracks from later years which featured Mel Tormι, Leonard Cohen, Kim Basinger and Ozzy Osbourne. The compilation contains the band's hits and cult hits, among them "Knocked Down, Made Small," "Tell Me That I'm Dreaming," "Walk the Dinosaur," "Spy in the House of Love" and "I Feel Better Than James Brown." Spearheaded by producer/bassist Don Was (Fagenson) and lyricist/vocalist/multi-instrumentalist David Was (Weiss), the collective was rooted in the Motor City of Motown, the MC5, the Stooges and George Clinton. According to Brian J. Bowe, the Michigan writer who annotated the Pick of the Litter (1980-2010) collection, "the Motor City was burning, baby, and these two had creativity to burn." "Don and I started recording in the Pleistocene Era, with Fred Flintstone producing, which in those days meant the guy who pushed the vulture's beak down on the hardened wooly mammoth pucky," says David Was. "Fidelity was crap, but at least we were able to record our earliest rantings for posterity."

Slash checked in with fans this week to recap a successful fun raiser gig with all star guests, announce the progress on his solo album, tell fans about a new Slash Les Paul and to announce a special Christmas party he is going to jam at. Here is what he had to say: Hey, what's happening? I had planned on posting this sooner, but the holiday came & I got sidetracked. Anyway, I hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving regardless. The fundraiser at the Avalon was a complete success, the concert raised 170k for LA Youth Network & made it possible for them to keep open their doors. If you were there thank you so much for your support. The gig itself was awesome, all the guests that appeared brought their A game, made a tremendous effort & really made it a special event. There were some fantastic moments up there that night for sure. I want to thank Ozzy, Perry Farrell, Billy Idol, Chester Bennington, Andrew Stockdale, Travis Barker, Dave Navarro, Steve Adler, Duff McKagan, Franky Perez, Chris Chaney & George Lopez for their selfless contributions. I want to thank the amazing crew who made the whole thing come off without a hitch & did it for little to nothing. And, everybody who donated generously to the cause. ....My solo record is about to go into mastering, it sounds really good already, but that's the final step in the recording process & then it is finished. There is a lot of really cool plans being made for the release of this album, its going to be a blast.

(antiMusic) Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Joey Stuckey who is a blind guitarist from Macon GA who works with members of Marshall Tucker, Allman Bros and others tells us about "Scratch That Itch" from his new EP "Ocean Side" which was just released on iTunes. We now turn it over to Joey for the story:My Song "Scratch That Itch" is about the need to play and have music as part of my life! My main concept for this track, from my new "Oceanside" jazz Ep was to have a great groove on the bass guitar, which I played, reminiscent of Markus Miller and to have my friend Peter Factora, whom I got the privilege to work with while on tour in Hawaii, appear on a track doing his thing on the drums. I also then asked my friend Enigma to do a rap. This little tune has something for everyone, good melody, solid groove and a world music flavor brought home by Miguel Castro on congas. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen to a sample for yourself and learn more about the album and Joey
