It is believed that Coldplay frontman Chris
Martin has been charged with “malicious damage” by Australian police after
an alleged altercation with a photographer at a beach resort.
As previously reported in our Day
In Rock report, Martin was accused with vandalizing the car of a press
photographer.
New South Wales police have only confirmed
that a 26-year-old Englishman has been charged in relation to the damage
inflicted to the auto, according to Reuters. Police have yet to release
the identity of the man charged, but it is believed to be Chris Martin.
Coldplay was in Australia to headline last
weekend’s “Splendour In The Grass music festival” at Byron Bay, which is
located about 500 miles north of Sydney.
"Byron Bay police were told that a press
photographer's car was damaged after a conversation between two people
at Seven Mile Beach around noon Sunday," a police spokesman told Reuters.
According to the police spokesman, the
man charged has been issued an order to appear in Byron Bay Court on October
8th.
Martin apparently isn’t taking the charges
seriously. According to Reuters, Martin joked from the stage Monday night
at a concert in Sydney that the only time he expected to see the police
was when he met the 80’s group fronted by Sting.
