Silverstein Week: If You Could See Into My Soul
DiR reports: Silverstein's new CD ' Arrivals and Departures' hits stores this week and to celebrate we asked Shane to pick his favorite five songs from the disc and tell us a little bit about each. We'll be giving you Shane's picks all week. We continue today with "If You Could See Into My Soul," here is Shane!

"Neil had the intro riff around for awhile but wasn't sure if he liked it. We were all stoked on it and tried to convince him how sick it was. Putting this song together was one of the most stressful times in our bands history. We just could not agree on the structure and there were a lot of arguments. I think this song came out super awesome though, and I think all the fighting was worth it."

Listen to the song, learn more about the group and grab their latest tour dates at the following link. And don't forget to pick up a copy of "Arrivals and Departures"!

Ambassador Ozzy
Sleazeroxx.com reports: After 14 failed attempts at joining the United Nations using media campaigns and presidential appeals, Taiwan is turning to a local goth-style rock band backed by Ozzy Osbourne in its quest for membership to the world body.

The band, named ChthoniC, will travel to at least 80 cities in four countries by the end of the year, supported in part by the Taiwan government, which is providing pro-U.N. literature and a slogan-painted truck.

ChthoniC has also recorded a song urging the United Nations to let Taiwan join, even though its bid for membership keeps getting knocked down because of objections from Beijing.

Ozzy Osbourne, a satanic-theme rocker known for biting heads off bats on stage, is helping set up 20 of the U.S. gigs, paying some transport costs and letting the Taiwan band promote U.N. membership as it wishes, Lim said. He said the band hooked up with Osbourne through personal connections. [gotta love the researchers for that comic satanic line]

Avril Sued for Song Theft
Jam! reports: Canadian [poser]punk princess Avril Lavigne is being sued by U.S. songwriters who claim that her smash hit "Girlfriend" sounds suspiciously like a single they released in the 1970s.

Lavigne's manager, Terry McBride, says the pop starlet is one of several people named in a lawsuit filed July 2 that alleges striking similarities to the Rubinoos song "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend."

McBride, also CEO of Nettwerk Music Group, dismissed the suit Wednesday as baseless, calling it a "case of legal blackmail."

Hippies Suck Says Nuge
Sleazeroxx.com reports: It was only a matter of time before Ted Nugent decided to rain on the Summer of Love's anniversary parade. In an article from today's Wall Street Journal titled "The Summer of Drugs," the notoriously opinionated guitar god took some time off his busy hunting schedule to blame "stoned, dirty, stinky hippies" for "rising rates of divorce, high school drop-outs, drug use, abortion, sexual diseases and crime, not to mention the exponential expansion of government and taxes."

Highlights:

On Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and Mama Cass: "I often wonder what musical peaks they could have climbed had they not gagged to death on their own vomit."

On the hippie movement: "Turned off by the work ethic and productive American Dream values of their parents, hippies instead opted for a cowardly, irresponsible lifestyle of random sex, life-destroying drugs and mostly soulless rock music that flourished in San Francisco."

Another Live Earth Show in Danger
Reuters reports: Brazilian organizers of the Rio de Janeiro leg of the Live Earth global concerts were trying to convince authorities on Wednesday not to cancel the Saturday show due to security concerns.

The Rio state prosecutor's office said earlier there were not enough police to safeguard the climate change awareness concert on Copacabana beach as all security efforts would be concentrated on preparations for the Pan American Games, starting July 13.

Last month, Istanbul was dropped from the list cities set to hold the concerts because of a lack of interest and security concerns. Ticket sales have been slow for most Live Earth shows and organizers had to shift venues in Johannesburg in a bid to improve sales.- more on this story

Fans Not Buying It
BBC reports: Global CD sales have slumped "more in 2006 than had been expected", according to an industry report.

The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) said sales last year dropped to 1.7bn, compared with 1.9bn in 2005.

Although digital music sales doubled last year, they failed to compensate for the overall fall in music sales. [what generic emo bands don't sell cds?]- more on this story
