Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Daniel Schleifer from What Cheer? Brigade tells us about "Saiyan Re Saiyan" from their album We Blow You Suck. We now turn it over to Daniel for the story:The moment I first heard "Saiyan Re Saiyan," I knew it would slay, and indeed, it's now one of our favorite songs to play live. The best Bollywood songs are a series of dramatic moments that are distinct but still work together. Add a heavy beat, and you've got a pop song that makes the crowd feel like they're on an epic journey across the dance floor. With this song, I started to really understand the elements of a good What Cheer? Brigade arrangement; it's fun to play, complex enough to engage listeners, but simple and heavy enough to make people move like crazy. This song also inspired me to dig deeper for gems in the massive pop mine of Bollywood film music. Rahul Dev Burman composed the song, whose title translates to "My Lover Came Silently," for the 1970 Bollywood film The Train. Anand Bakshi wrote the lyrics, and legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle sang the original vocals. My arrangement trims it down somewhat, but all the best bits from Burman's version are there. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album

The second song of the Waylons' new single series, 'The Whole World,' is now available as a free download at www.waylons.com.The single is part of a series of summer releases available only through the band's website and at The Waylons' summer performances. The Whole World follows the Waylons earlier single, Liquored Heroics. Both songs are country-flavored heartbreakers—shuffling tempos, vocal harmonies, sliding guitar, and rich instrumentation lead the way, helped gracefully along by guest accordionist, Chris Alden. "Liquored Heroics" invokes the impotent aspirations of a hopeless protagonist.

Ponderosa Stomp announces Roy Loney and Cyril Jordan of the Flamin' Groovies, the A-Bones & the Jim Jones Revue at One Eyed Jacks on Sunday, September 26th.With a two day festival, film festival and music history conference, you'd assume the music fanatics at the Ponderosa Stomp would be done. That assumption couldn't be further from the truth; the appetite for killer music is unquenchable. The Stomp announces a special show to follow the festival at One Eyed Jacks on Sunday, August 26th with Roy Loney and Cyril Jordan of the Flamin' Groovies, the A-Bones and the Jim Jones Revue. In 2009, the annual Ponderosa Stomp festival reunited Roy Loney and Cyril Jordan for their first official show since 1972. The crowd went ballistic! Bringing singer/songwriter Roy Loney and guitarist Cyril Jordan back this year was a no brainer. They'll be joined by their friends in the A-Bones for a set of the unhinged rock n' roll. Jim Jones Revue (former front man of Thee Hypnotics) will play supercharged rock that sounds like a collision between Little Richard and the MC5.
