Dave Grohl's Rep Strikes Down Nirvana Reunion Tour Speculation
A representative for Dave Grohl has struck down speculation that the surviving members of Nirvana plan to reunite and recruit a new frontman.

The band appeared on stage last week for the first time in 20-years where they performed a new song from Grohl's forthcoming documentary Sound City with Beatles legend Paul McCartney.

The one-off reunion ignited speculation that the Nirvana members were planning to regroup. New York Post's Page Six quoted unnamed sources as telling them:

"Grohl has been privately telling friends that he's working on a 'Nirvana anniversary tour with a secret frontman.'"

When the paper reached out to a representative for Dave Grohl for comment about what the sources had told them, the rep called the reported reunion plans "nonsense."

Machine Head Frontman Hit By Cab
Machine Head frontman Robb Flynn was hospitalized on Friday (December 14th) after being hit by a New York City cab and had strong words onstage later that night for All That Remains, accusing them of not covering for his band while he received medical treatment.

Flynn, who underwent emergency hernia surgery last month, spent four hours in a hospital following the accident where he was hit by the cab in his groin area, according to Loudwire.

After leaving the hospital, Flynn rushed to the Roseland Ballroom for his band's set at the New York City stop on their tour with Dethklok, All That Remains and the Black Dahlia Murder. During the set Flynn told fans that All That Remains refused to switch set times with his band.

Loudwire published the following transcription from a video of Flynn's speech to fans: "About two days ago we played and the All That Remains guys asked us to flip-flop with them because their singer got stuck in traffic. And you know, we've been flip-flopping this whole tour so we were like, "Yeah, man, you know what? It's no big deal, we'll flip flop." Because that's what you do, you look out for your brothers, right?

"And today, I got hit by a cab, right where I had surgery four weeks ago, in my nuts. I got clipped in a hit and run. I spent the last four hours in the f—ing hospital and unfortunately I had to f—in' rush back here — and actually, it is fortunate, because I'm very happy to be standing on this stage — but I had to f**king rush back here because nobody could f—ing switch, man, nobody could flip-flop, because that's just how it is, I guess. That's how it is when you look out for your brothers some of the time.

"This tour, I'll tell you what, this tour has been so f—ing insane for us, man, we've had so many crazy things, and even things that affected you people: Hurricane Sandy. We've had surgeries, we got banned by f—ing Disney, all this f—ing bulls–t and you know what? Nothing is gonna f—ing stop us, nothing is gonna f—ing stop us, because we live to do this. We're so f—ing honored, we're so f—ing proud to be able to do this for you." Watch video footage here and read All That Remains singer's response.

Manslaughter Trial Date Set For Lamb of God's Randy Blythe
A trial date for Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe for manslaughter charges in the Czech Republic has been set, according to a local media report.

Blythe's trial will begin on February 4, 2013 and is expected to last four days, reports Prague Post. If convicted, Blythe could receive up to ten years in prison.

"We have issued Randy Blythe with a court summons, and he is obliged to attend the hearing in person," court spokeswoman Martina Lhotáková said according to the report. "The trial will determine the culpability of Blythe, and his potential punishment."

The singer had been indicted after being accused of pushing a fan off the stage during a Lamb of God concert in May 2010, which prosecutors claim led to the fan's death two weeks later.

The band's manager Larry Mazer issued the following statement in response to the indictment: "After a three month investigation, the prosecutor in the Czech Republic has decided to move forward with an indictment of Randy Blythe on the charge of manslaughter with intent to cause bodily harm. Obviously, we intend to fight vigorously against these charges as we feel that in no way did Randy intend to cause bodily harm on the young fan who subsequently died from injuries sustained at the show. As he has stated previously, Randy intends to go to Prague to defend himself at trial.

"While it is a tragedy that a Lamb of God fan died following a performance by the group, in no way do I feel that Randy did anything improper that led to the young man's injuries and subsequent death. The price of a ticket to a show does not entitle audience members access to a band's stage. In the years since the murder on stage of Dimebag Darrell Abbott, performers of all genres have had to become more guarded while performing in response to the dangers presented by fans trying to become part of the performance. We believe that Randy responded professionally to the numerous amount of fans rushing the stage that day, a number of them captured on videos that have been posted on the internet. We have testimony from the venue operator that acknowledges lax security and an improper barricade being used that evening. Numerous testimonies from fans also were contradictory as to the actions of the multiple fans that tried to access the stage.

"At this point, all that the band, myself, and our lawyers can do is to present a defense and try to convince the panel of judges who will hear the case that Randy is innocent of all charges and that his name and reputation need to be cleared and that he be permitted to carry on with his life and career always mindful that a fan passed away after a Lamb of God performance." more on this story

Dave Grohl's Sound City Soundtrack Details
More details about the soundtrack to Dave Grohl's Sound City documentary have been revealed, including the full tracklisting.

The soundtrack, Sound City - Real to Reel, will be released on March 12th by Grohl's Roswell Records.

The album will feature collaborations between Grohl and Stevie Nicks, Trent Reznor, Josh Homme, Rick Springfield, Slipknot's Cory Taylor and Paul McCartney.

The McCartney track, "Cut Me Some Slack," was performed live by McCartney and the surviving members of Nirvana (Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear) last week during the 12-12-12 concert in New York, and was also released to iTunes.

The documentary is set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, and be released February 1 in theaters and via digital download.

Grohl, who will travel to Sundance next month along with select artists featured in the film and its forthcoming soundtrack album had this to say, "As a first time director, I am humbled to be able to share my passion for songwriting and storytelling with this incredible cast of legendary musicians, as seen through the extraordinary story of America's greatest unsung recording studio, Sound City. Being included in this group of artists is a true honor, and the Sundance Film Festival is the perfect place to premiere a film about craft, integrity, and passion for art. I am over the moon!"

Sound City, the film, was conceived by Grohl after purchasing the legendary custom-built Neve 8028 recording console from Sound City Studios last year. The board, built in 1972, is considered by many to be the crown jewel of analog recording equipment, having recorded such artists as Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Cheap Trick, Guns N' Roses, Fear, Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Slipknot, Nine Inch Nails, Metallica, and countless other musical legends over the past 40 years. See the tracklisting and guest list here.

Player Releasing First New Album in 20 Years
Player have set a February 26th release date for their first new album in nearly 20 years, Too Many Reasons.

Frontiers Records sent out the following details: TOO Many Reasons features twelve brand new tracks, as well as a new acoustic version of the band's chart-topping smash hit, "Baby Come Back."

Founding member/bassist Ronn Moss commented, "It's wonderful to have our new music out in the world again. Our sound, our vocals, are stronger than they've ever been. I also believe there's a huge market waiting for this kind of music, a market in which lyric and strong melody are still valued."

Founding member Peter Beckett added, "I am very happy that Player is on the Frontiers Records label, it feels like we have found a home again. I am also thrilled with the way the CD turned out. There's a little bit of everything on there...rock, r&b, pop ballads...something for everyone."

Player was formed in 1977 when Englishman Peter Beckett met J.C. Crowley at a Hollywood party. Beckett had come to the United States after the demise of his popular English band Paladin. The band was completed by Ronn and John Friesen and the four became the founding members. After many rehearsals and songwriting sessions, Player was born.

Matt Letley Leaves Status Quo
Matt Letley has ended his 12-year run with Status Quo and will be playing his final concert with the group tomorrow (December 19) at O2 Arena in London.

He informed fans of his decision to leave the group via the following blog post on his official website on Monday: "It's been a fantastic journey over the past twelve years or so but I have decided that now is the right time for me to leave Quo and move on to something new. My final show will be at the O2 on Wednesday.

"No doubt there will be much conjecture that this is somehow related to the upcoming reunion gigs but I'd like to assure everyone that it has no bearing on my decision. Indeed I wish the guys every success with this tour and certainly hope to come along to see one of the shows!

"I should like to take this opportunity to thank the guys in the band, our fantastic crew and Simon and the girls in the office for their friendship and professionalism. Most of all I thank the fans without whom I should not have had the chance to play with one of the best rock and roll bands in the world."

The original line-up of the group, guitarist Francis Rossi, singer Rick Parfitt, bassist Alan Lancaster, and drummer John Coghlan, will be reuniting next spring for a tour of the UK.

The Bronx Release Limited Edition Song From New Album
The Bronx have release a new single from their forthcoming album, The Bronx (IV), which will be released on February 5, 2013.

The new album was produced by Beau Burchell and the new single, "Ribcage" has been released digitally and the track is currently streaming here.

They have selling it directly as a limited edition 7" vinyl, along with a previously unreleased b-side "Into The Black," here.

"This represents the highest evolution of the band, which is exactly how it should be," vocalist Matt Caughthran says of the album. "We're the same guys, but we would never make the same record twice. And because of everything that's happened with El Bronx, we've grown as musicians. And that's why on this record you'll hear that the songs are driving everything."

"We made an effort to trim the fat and focus the ideas a lot more," guitarist Joby J. explains. "It helped that we're working in our own studio, with our friend (producer/engineer) Beau Burchell, and that we know what we want to do and how to get there very quickly."

Future Ghosts Change Name To Unifier and Offer Fans Free Downloads
Future Ghosts have changed their name to Unifier after receiving a cease and desist letter from a band of the same name out of Chicago, IL, who also had the band's social media sites removed (Facebook, Reverbnation, Bandcamp, etc.).

The newly renamed Unifer sent over these statements about the dispute and the name change: The Chicago band trademarked the name "Future Ghosts" back in April 2012, despite not have been active since 2006 and despite the fact that Greensboro's Future Ghosts had already released an EP (Oh, Great City) back in 2011. Only recently did the Chicago band decide to reform and release a new record this year.

The timing couldn't be worse as Greensboro's Future Ghosts are preparing to release their debut LP Colorado on February 12, 2013 via the indie labels Autumn + Colour Records (Sick/Sea, Sleepy Turtles) and Round Kid Records (Terra Terra Terra, Averman). Colorado was recorded at Cannon Found Soundation Recording Studios (Man Overboard, Basement, Transit) with producer Jesse Cannon (The Cure, Saves The Day, The Menzingers.)

In a jointly-released statement Greensboro's Future Ghosts (now Unifier) says, "We are, and have been aware that we shared a name with other bands. Most bands do, at one point or another, and usually everyone is pretty relaxed about it. We were just glad that when we got started we only shared it with two or three others. We always knew the possibility was there that one of them would take off and we'd be the ones who had to change our name, but for it to happen like this feels like betrayal. Not only did the other band make no attempt to work it out with us before asking us to cease and desist, they aggressively pursued the purging of our web presence at the same time. It's one thing to make a formal request and give someone a chance to either comply or respond, but we were just left scrambling in the few hours we had to make sure people knew what was going on before all the sites went down."

On Monday, the band announced that they have changed their name to Unifier and sent out this

L.A. Guns Name Stacy Blades Replacement
L.A. Guns have officially announced that Frankie Wilsey has been hired to replace the recently departed Stacy Blades (who replaced the band's namesake Tracii Guns)

The band had this to say: "L.A. Guns are delighted to announce the new guitarist is our old friend Frankie Wilsey, who we first met back in 2007 when he was playing in Stephen Pearcy's band, Arcade, on the Rock Never Stops tour.

"Frankie spent more time on our bus than his own, impressing us with hours of classic bootleg videos from the '70s and '80s. He was clearly a rock aficionado, truly a scholar and a gentleman.

"Frankie's been playing guitar since 1977. He formed his first band, Head ON, in San Francisco in '81 and then went on to form the hometown Bay area champions Sea Hags in '88. He moved to Los Angeles in the early '90s, where he teamed up with Stephen Pearcy of Ratt and Fred Coury of Cinderella to form Arcade.

"In addition to lots of sessions in Los Angeles, Frankie recently toured with legendary singer John Waite and also had a residency in Las Vegas as Joe Perry in the definitive Aerosmith tribute band, Aeromyth.

"Frankie joins the band with Guns blazing, ready to tour the world and get involved in writing and recording new original material."

Frankie states, "I met Phil and Steve years ago, traveling down this road. Found out they're blessed with classic rock style and a road warrior ethic that is rare in this weakling world of music. I have to say, I think this is a very good match up. Let's hope the fans feel the same."

After The Fall Giving Away First Song From New Album
(Sub) After The Fall have set a March 19, 2013 release date for their new album, Unkind, and are giving away a free download of "Decade," the first song released from the effort.

The new song can be downloaded for free from the Paper + Plastick Records webstore as part of the label's 12 Days of Christmas series here

The band - consisting of vocalist / guitarist Mike Moak, guitarist Tyler Paige, bassist / vocalist Will Savage, and drummer Chris Millington - recorded Unkind in its hometown with producer Tim Lynch. The record was mixed and mastered by The Descendents' Stephen Egerton.

Serving as the follow-up to the Eradication LP, After The Fall's newest release showcases a sound with more depth than the band has ever had before. With two other full-lengths under the band's belt (2005's Everything and 2009's Fort Orange), the group has honed and perfected its craft and Unkind proves to be its most impressive work.

"This album was recorded as a four-piece," Moak says, "which gave everything a little more depth. We've been a three-piece for the last four years but Will and Tyler rejoining the band have helped us flesh things out and get their influence in on this album and the songwriting."

Singled Out: The Product
Today B.J. Perry from Detroit rockers The Product tells us about their brand new single (and music video) "Light It Up," which you may have heard on ESPN. Here is the story:

We had been driving on the way to a show in Ohio and for whatever reason our Bass Player Rich decides to start making up lyrics to some top 40 party song. He's singing and sounding terrible as ever and then he's like light it up, sing with me guys, party on and we'll go all night…. And immediately the rest of us started cracking up, mostly because of the ridiculous over the top creed voice he was doing it in, but the fact remains we were like, we need a party song.

We took the lyric ideas and put them on top of a few guitar riffs Charlie had been working on and the rest was history. We tried to write the ultimate party song that still had that rock edge and still felt like The Product. It definitely was off the radar for us, but we all loved how it turned out. ESPN liked it too and they've been using it for College football coverage ever since.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself with the official music video here and learn more about the band right here!

Baroness Members Release Post Bus Crash Unplugged Video
Baroness's John Baizley and Pete Adams have released a video of an acoustic performance of their song "Stretchmarker".

The clip, recorded in Baizley's Philadelphia art studio, marks the first performance the band members have shared since their horrific bus accident in August.

"Simply put: it's time to get back to it. Since my belated and thankful return to the USA (after our painful test in motor coach-aeronautics) I can definitively say I've exhausted my reserve of potential leisure activities (there's not that many of them, after all)." explained Baizley.

"I've come dreadfully close to boredom, and in those moments I can't help but focus on my glaring physical infirmities. Television offers little respite from this relative stasis; I'm sure by now I have sampled every biker-meth-dealer-zombie-low-talking-cop-crime-scene-serial-killer-real-housewife soap opera that is currently being broadcast (and there's no small number of them). I've tried to fill my weekly routine with as much physical therapy as possible but the truth is, PT is not fun, and its benefits come with a great deal of mental/physical/spiritual pain and struggle. Furthermore, I believe I am getting a touch of Stockholm Syndrome when it comes to my doctors and therapists (the highlight of my week should NOT involve a clinic). Music might be the best therapy I have right now. Perhaps it's both the cause and the cure (the thought has crossed my mind); but I feel lost without it. Pete and I have just spent a long week surveying our musical wreckage and, surprisingly, we are quite well and intact. Sure, there are some substantial obstacles to overcome before we write, record or perform any time soon; but we still have everything we need to get 'back in' that particular 'saddle again.' Most of my peers are familiar with such high-school-gym-teacher poeticisms as 'risk equals reward' and 'no pain, no gain;' but did any of us every really believe there was any real wisdom in those adolescent platitudes? I didn't. I am, however, starting to understand the essence of these and many of our other favorite clichés.

"As odd as it might be for me to write these 'updates' after 10 years of personal silence on the internet, I feel that I owe everyone who's voiced or given their support to Baroness a brief synopsis of our situation and more importantly a heartfelt thanks. Honestly, it has made this ordeal much easier on me. What little publicity that surrounds our crash has given voice to so many people who have shared their own stories of injury, trauma and struggle with us, and has furthered my own faith in the communicative and universal strength of music. As every singer on every stage has nightly said, 'we wouldn't be where we are without you.' Thanks everyone. We look forward to seeing you soon. Here's a short clip of a song we wrote." Watch it here.

Heaven's Cry Streaming Forthcoming Song Online
(Sub) BraveWords.com are streaming Heaven's Cry's song "Gaia's Judgement" from the forthcoming remixed and remastered reissue of their debut album, "Food for Thought Substitute"

"'Gaia's Judgement' was the first song I wrote with Sylvain (Auclair, bass/vocals) back in 1993, and the very first Heaven's Cry song," says guitarist/vocalist Pierre St-Jean.

"It revolves around ecology, and how we are unconscious about our actions towards Gaia, which is The Earth personified as a goddess. Looking back, I think the topic is even more relevant today, for as a society, we were not as preoccupied about the environment back in the day as much as we are today!"

Adds guitarist Eric Jarrin (ex-Despised Icon), "It's one of the first songs I heard before joining Heaven's Cry, and I think it showcases the essence of what the band is, lyrically and musically. There's the dual vocal attack, a lot of heavy riffing, some melodic parts; it's really an epic prog song!"

Heaven's Cry's first two releases, "Food For Thought Substitute" and follow-up "Primal Power Addiction," will be reissued by Prosthetic Records on Jan. 8, following the success of the band's recently released comeback album "Wheels of Impermanence."

Both reissues feature revamped artwork and have been newly remixed by Yannick St-Amand (Despised Icon, Beneath The Massacre, Kataklysm) and remastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Symphony X).

"Wheels of Impermanence" marked the first new music from the band in the seven years. The band currently consists of St-Jean, Auclair, Jarrin and René Lacharité (drums). They were most recently seen headlining the prestigious ProgPower Europe festival in the Netherlands and have since been announced to appear at the 2013 ProgPower USA Festival.
