(Gibson) Eventually, this was bound to happen. Jack White has produced an Insane Clown Posse single, in which the horror rappers spit rhymes over a Mozart composition. Yes, that's right: White helmed a record on which Shaggy 2 Dope and Violent J rap to Mozart's "Leck Mich Im Arsch," dating from 1782, according to Rolling Stone. The 7-inch single includes "Mountain Girl" on the b-side and will be available starting September 13 from Third Man Records. You can listen to a full version of the song at Third Man Records' website. Although many might be confused by the teaming up of White and ICP, the artists have a couple of things in common. They all hail from Detroit and tend to rely heavily on the colors white and black in their looks. As far as where Mozart fits in your guess is as good as ours. more on this story

(Rock News Desk) Canadian broadcast bossed have finally cleared Dire Straits' 1985 track Money For Nothing for broadcast after an 18-month investigation into the lyrics.A verse in the 26-year-old track containing the word "f*ggot" three times drew one single complaint from a listener in February 2009; but that was enough to have it repressed under Canadian rules in January last year. But now the CBSC have completed their review and say the lyrics are thoughtful enough to be played uncensored; and while the "other f-word" is generally unacceptable, it's not intended to be abusive in the context of Money For Nothing. more on this story

(Rock News Desk) AC/DC hero Angus Young doesn't rate himself as a guitarist, but he believes Eddie Van Halen is comparable to Jimi Hendrix. The school-uniform-clad veteran reveals his analysis in an article he's contributed to a coffee table book devoted to the Van Halen mainman. In the publication he says: "AC/DC played on a bill with Van Halen back in 1978 or 1979. I didn't know much about Van Halen then except that I remember seeing film clips of them, especially the one of Eddie playing the solo piece Eruption and I was very impressed. "I didn't meet Eddie until years later when there was a Monsters of Rock open-air festival in England. I was shocked to hear he liked my playing, because I've never rated myself as a guitarist." Young describes Van Halen as an "innovator" and compares his influence to that of Hendrix, who followed English masters including Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck. more on this story

The Who's Pete Townshend has released details about their new Quadrophenia: The Director's Cut Boxset which is set to be released on November 15th 2011. Here is the official word: A stunning 'Director's Cut' of the landmark 1973 album produced, authorized and overseen by Pete Townshend. Considered by Pete Townshend himself to be the Who album that he is most proud of, 'Quadrophenia' is the last album in the Who back catalogue to be given the deluxe treatment and is perhaps the most deserving. After the 1971 album 'Who's Next', Pete Townshend returned to the 'rock-opera' concept, so dramatically realized through 'Tommy', with another ambitious double-album masterpiece. Based around the story of Jimmy Quadrophenia tells the tale of a young mod and his struggle to come of age in the mid-1960s. The story also takes its influence from the band's early fans from the original mod era, and its themes of teenage angst and disaffection still resonate strongly today. The full details and track-listing for the forthcoming 'Director's Cut' reissue of 'Quadrophenia' are released for the first time below and Pete Townshend has opened his personal archive for the very first time for the release, stating that: "The time has come for me and my team to honour 'Quadrophenia' with a carefully presented package that features examples of the impact surround sound (quadrophonic) would have on the music, to remaster the vinyl mixes, and to collect and restore my demos. I am also going to try to shed some light on the way 'Quadrophenia' came about, and how it was inspired by events in my life in 1970 and 1971 when I scribbled or typed the very first notes and lyrics for some of the songs that made it onto the final record.' more on this story

(Kayos) Eagle Rock will release Paul Rodgers & Friends Live At Montreux 1994 on CD and DVD on September 13th. Touring in support of his Grammy nominated Muddy Water Blues album (available on Eagle Records), Rodgers assembled a top notch unit of blues and rock veterans to give the Montreux faithful the night of their lives. What a lineup! , Queen's Brian May, Black Country Communion's Jason Bonham , Toto's Steve Lukather and Journey's Neal Schon, joined guitarist Ian Hatton, bassist John Smithson and such blues performers and players as Eddie Kirkland, Sherman Robertson, Luther Allison, Robert Lucas and Kenny Neal. As Willie Dixon says, it's a wang-dang doodle! Material consisted of many of the songs Rodgers penned and built his sterling reputation on (including "All Right Now," "Can't Get Enough" and "Feel Like Making Love") but the bulk of the evening was nothin' but the blues: faithful joyously jam-happy renditions of songs written by Robert Johnson in 1936 ("Crossroads"), Sonny Boy Williamson in 1937 ("Good Morning Little School Girl"), Booker T & The MGs in 1967 ("The Hunter") and three that Willie Dixon wrote for Muddy Waters in 1954 ("I'm Ready" and "Hoochie Coochie Man") and 1961 ("Let Me Love You Baby"). more on this story

(Rock News Desk) Former Replacements frontman Paul Westerberg isn't sure anyone would buy a new solo album if he made one and that's one of the reasons he contributed two tracks to country rock icon Glen Campbell's final record.Replacements bassist Tommy Stinson, currently with Guns N' Roses, recently released his second solo album One Man Mutiny. But his lifelong friend is less sure there's a market for new product. Westerberg tells the Village Voice: "I'm always writing and I have plenty of songs, but I think the Glen Campbell record is a bit of a test to see if people still buy records or go for my stuff." His song Ghost on the Canvas gave its title to Campbell's final album and his track Any Trouble also appears. But Westerberg recorded the former himself in 2009 and the latter ten years earlier, and he's not sure how many people know that. "I just don't know if anyone has noticed," he says. "When somebody tells you they like a song well enough to record it, it makes you think, 'Well, I'm not finished'." more on this story

(Gibson) On this day in 1979, U2 released their very first record, an EP titled U2-3. Gibson takes a look back: Before The Joshua Tree, War or even Boy, there was Three U2's debut release that consisted of (as the title suggests) three songs. Although only sold in Ireland, the EP marked an important milestone. On September 1, 1979, as a precursor to stadium-rocking concerts, multi-platinum albums and world-saving crusades, U2 would release their first songs to the public. The story, however, begins about three years earlier, on September 25, 1976, when 14-year-old Larry Mullen Jr. posted a note on a school bulletin board saying that he was looking for people who were interested in starting a band. According to the drummer, it was to be called The Larry Mullen Band for about 10 minutes, until a boy named Paul Hewson showed up. With Bono in the band, there was little chance of little Larry being the leader. Although guitarist Dave Evans (soon to become The Edge) and bassist Adam Clayton were in the group from the get-go, the band also included Dave's older brother, Dik Evans, and Mullen's friends, Ivan McCormick and Peter Martin. After a few weeks, McCormick and Martin had dropped out, and U2 were a quintet. Of course, they weren't called U2 at the time. Initially, they took the name Feedback and then changed to The Hype in 1977. more on this story

And Stewart says he was desperate to get Kostabi on board after being wowed by the artists work on Guns N' Roses' double 'Use Your Illusion' albums in the early 1990s. "Yes, I think it is (album is different to previous efforts). I think each album we do is different and a little bit unique. You are always changing as people, as a band and as musicians," Stewart told Muen Magazine. "I think the songs you write at a specific point in time reflect that. Today blues rocker John Pippus tells us about the song "Walk Away" from his brand new album "Wrapped Up In The Blues," which was released this week. Here is the story:When I perform "Walk Away" live, I set it up by telling the audience that it's "an ode to mass transit". That's not really true. It was actually written one morning when I was still ticked off at what happened the day before, when I drove out to the suburbs (from downtown Vancouver, where I live) to rehearse with a songwriter friend. This particular hour-long drive was like descending into my own private hell. Endless road construction, endless traffic jams, uptight drivers stewing in their cars. Once I eventually got to where I was going, all I could see was row after row of cookie-cutter houses. To top it off, on the drive back to the city, I got a speeding ticket that cost me $167. I was "speeding", (actually driving quite reasonably, given the conditions) on the only short stretch of highway where there was (miraculously) only light traffic. So when I sat down to write this song the following morning, I was fueled by frustration and anger. The drive was the catalyst but I expanded the rage outward to include a jaundiced look at our so-called normal life. The lunacy of long commutes, every one locked up in their own little carbon monoxide maker. Soul destroying suburbs, interchangeable with every other suburb across North America. Lives that have no passion. That's what the song is really about. The main riff came to me quickly, it fit the mood of the song, and I didn't over think it. There's a middle section, a breakdown, that ventures into Captain Beefheart territory. My bass player challenged me to do something different with the song, so I was thinking of him when I wrote this discordant part. The 'traffic jam' section I call it. When it came time to record the vocal, I sang along with this part just for fun, never intending for it to be on the final mix. But when producer Adam Bailie and I heard it back we thought it was hilarious. And besides, it reinforces the group insanity of driving back and forth from home to work and back again, in endless lines of traffic, day after day, without questioning what we're doing to our souls and our planet. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
