Amy Winehouse Dead at 27
For those that missed the sad news on Saturday, Gibson has this report: Amy Winehouse was found dead Saturday in her London home. The famously self-destructive singer with the beehive hairdo was 27.

Winehouse shot to worldwide fame with her 2006 album Back to Black, which went on to win five Grammy awards, including Best Album and Best Pop Vocal Album. The album's breakout single "Rehab" took home three Grammys, including Record and Song of the Year, as well as Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

Winehouse's personal troubles were well-documented over the last few years. Police confirm she was pronounced dead at her Camden Square home in northern London. Cause of death has yet to be determined. London Ambulance Services said that the singer was dead before the two ambulances dispatched to her home arrived.

Winehouse canceled her European tour last month after she was booed off stage during the tour's first show in Belgrade due to severely slurring the lyrics to her songs, making them virtually unrecognizable. "I didn't go out looking to be famous," Winehouse told the Associated Press shortly after releasing her Back to Black album. "I'm just a musican." more on this story

Phil Collins Carried Out Of Event in Agony
(Rock News Desk) Retired Genesis drummer Phil Collins was helped out of an awards ceremony in agony at the weekend, suffering from an attack of the nerve damage which forced him to give up performing. And he admitted he couldn't return to the stage even if he wanted to – which he doesn't.

Collins, 60, was due to present a gong to Ringo Starr at the Mojo Awards, but had to be half-carried out before he could deliver the honor.

He told the Mirror: "I'm on my last legs. I couldn't come back to music. All these aches and pains – I can't do it any more." more on this story

Metal For Grandmas
(Rock News Desk) A group of senior citizens turned up at a night of metal entertainment in the mistaken belief it was an old-time rock'n'roll show – but stayed and partied with the younger crowd.

East Devon newspaper the Midweek Herald organised the event at the Royal British Legion Club in Honiton, near Exeter, on Friday night. But early promotions described it as "a rock and roll evening," leading the Honiton Senior Citizens Centre to arrange the trip for some of their members.

On witnessing the arrival of older members of the audience, singer John de Barra and DJ Shaneen quickly adjusted their set as best they could – while admitting they were "out of their comfort zone." more on this story

Ringo Shoots Down McCartney Reunion Rumor
(Gibson) Despite rumors suggesting that ex-Beatle Ringo Starr may be part of an Olympics 2012 supergroup, the drummer has said he will not be involved at all.

According to the Daily Express, it was multi-gold-medal-winner Steve Redgrave who hinted that there could be a Beatles reunion of sorts with Starr and Paul McCartney and other iconic stars like Mick Jagger and John Lydon teaming up for the opening ceremony in London next summer.

Whatever the musical lineup, they'll have to find a different drummer. Ringo told Sky News: "I'll be touring America so I won't be doing it." more on this story

Watch Pearl Jam and Soundgarden Jam
(hennemusic) It was getting hard to tell which band was on stage at the Forum in Los Angeles Friday night, as Soundgarden were joined by Pearl Jam guitarist Mick McCready.

With PJ drummer Matt Cameron doing double-duty in both bands these days, McCready's guest spot could have gone in a few different directions…into a song by either band, a Temple Of The Dog track, or a cover on its own.

Turned out McCready was there to jam on "Superunknown," delivering a soaring guitar solo as the band was in full flight and firing on all cylinders. Check out video here

Sammy Hagar Says New Chickenfoot Is The Best Record He's Ever Made
(Gibson) Sammy Hagar is more than a little bit enthusiastic about Chickenfoot's new album. The group, which also includes Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani and Chad Smith, will release their second album, erroneously titled Chickenfoot III, in late September.

"It's the best record I've ever made," Hagar told Rolling Stone, although he said it didn't come easy. "I was being negative, and I fought with myself. The music Joe was presenting was so good, I honestly beat myself up for the first time ever. I didn't want to walk in with something mediocre."

Some of the record shares the sound of the band's 2009 debut, although Hagar said "the hooks and the songs are better." Satriani agrees: "We created a record that was deeper and better than the first one... it makes a musician very happy when they can see that they are involved with something that's very moving forward and life-changing." more on this story

Judas Priest Were Heading Towards A Breakup
(Rock News Desk) Judas Priest came close to splitting up when KK Downing told them he'd decided to retire from the band. And guitarist Glenn Tipton reveals they'd never have toured again if they hadn't found the right man in new member Richie Faulkner.

Downing dropped his bombshell in December but the band only revealed he'd left when they announced their Epitaph final world tour in April. They're working on a new album with former Lauren Harris axeman Faulkner and do plan to play further live shows – but they won't be embarking on any more large-scale global treks.

"It was a difficult time for us. We almost gave up; and if we hadn't found Richie I don't think we'd be here today," Tipton tells Everything Rocks. "It had to be the right man for the job – we had to find that spark or it wouldn't have worked. We could have looked and looked, and never found the right person." more on this story

"I've kept it no secret that I really miss my husband," Osbourne told AOL. "He'll have been on tour for 18 months by the time it's over. I've spent a lot of time away from him. He gets a break at the end of September, and so I've asked for a little break so I can be with him." more on this story

Duff McKagan Looks At Corey Taylor's Deadly Sins
(Gibson) In the latest segment of former Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver bass player Duff McKagan's column, which runs at SeattleWeekly.com, McKagan writes glowingly about Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor's new book, Seven Deadly Sins - Settling the Argument Between Born Bad and Damaged Good.

On Taylor, he writes, "I've known Corey (of Slipknot fame) on a personal level for the last few years, and have come to know that he is one of the smartest dudes out there. When he told me about his journey into authordom, I had no doubt that whatever topic he chose to write about would be deep and heavy."

McKagan goes onto say he picked up Taylor's book and "gave it a cursory browse" to find that it "looks fascinating." "It's a funny yet poignant look at Corey's own dip into drugs and vice and asinine behavior in his youth, while also studying the age-old question of whether certain personal traits are learned or bred into a person," he said. more on this story

Another Aerosmith Tease From The Studio
(hennemusic) Another teaser video clip of Aerosmith in the studio has surfaced. Last week, the band released a short piece with Joe Perry and producer Jack Douglas discussing equipment options, and this time out, Aerosmith have offered up something much more interesting – footage of Perry and Steven Tyler discussing the first song they recorded earlier this month, including some of Perry's riffing.

Aerosmith behind-the-scenes guy John B. filed a report for fan club AeroForce One….here's a taste: "With the temps hovering in the mid 90's to low 100's outside, the band stay cool in the cozy confines of Pandora's Box each day with Jack Douglas laying down tracks for their next release. As you know the band hasn't had a studio album since Bobo in 2004 and an original release since 2001 with Just Push Play. Jack reminds me of Doc Brown from Back to the Future. He seems crazy as a loon but also as sane as a mental health counselor. He does bring an old school vibe with him but that doesn't mean that this record is going to be the second coming of Rocks.

"Toys and Rocks to me may never be duplicated and they also stand as the benchmark to reach as iconic A-Smith albums but as Joe has stated in several interviews in the past few years that he feels that Aerosmith still hasn't made their best album. The age old question from most people is, Will it sound like Rocks? C'mon folks, I think that is an unfair question, but what I will say is that this will sound like vintage Aerosmith. Think Bobo with killer original riffs. Joey's playing with the precision of an Omega Speedmaster Professional and gets as funky as Clyde Stubblefield on his best days. Go ahead and say 'yeah that's what he gets paid to say' but I am telling you this stuff is going to blow you guys away, for shizzle." Check out the video here

Black Sabbath Legend Tributes Amy Winehouse
(Rock News Desk) Geezer Butler has led tributes to pop and soul singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse, who was found dead on Saturday after struggling with drug addictions for years. She was 27.

The Black Sabbath and Heaven and Hell bassist says: "It would be disrespectful of me if I didn't mention the passing of one of my all-time favourite musicians, Amy Winehouse.

"To me, she was and is up there with Billie, Bessie, Sarah, Dinah and Ella. I was so looking forward to her new stuff but I'll always love the old stuff," he said. "A tremendous talent taken from us. Her voice will live on longer than all the crap written about her." Meanwhile a number of rock and metal artists have paid their own tributes.

Spy Kids Director Behind New Heavy Metal Movie
(The Metal Den) Big news for Heavy Metal magazine fans who want a new version of the Heavy Metal movie.

"Spy Kids" director Robert Rodriguez has surprised everyone at the San Diego Comic-Con with news that his new media company, Quick Draw Productions, would set sail with a new animated anthology of leering adolescent fantasies, according to The Playlist.

Stop, wasn't David Fincher the one making "Heavy Metal?" And with a bunch of A-list directors like James Cameron lined up to direct segments? That project is dead and bloated, as the rights have gone from Paramount to Rodriguez. Robert's already met with the magazine's owner, Kevin Eastman, and it's a done deal. And he wants to get fans involved

Lita Ford Takes The Other Side in Runaways Controversy
(Rock News Desk) Lita Ford says former bandmates Joan Jett and Cherie Currie should have embraced a Runaways tribute album instead of attempting to block its release. And the guitarist adds she'd have contributed to the record herself, only she found out about it too late.

Take It or Leave It: A Tribute to the Queens of Noise features David Johansen of the New York Dolls, the Donnas, Shonen Knife and many others. A cut of the takings are being donated to cancer research in memory of Runaways drummer Sandy West, who died of the disease in 2006.

Last month the announcement of the record's release was swiftly followed by the threat of legal action from Jett and Currie. Their representative said: "This isn't about money – it's strictly about preserving reputation and quality that both Joan and Cherie are known for." But Main Man Records, the label behind the album, responded. "We find it terribly sad that a charitable record could be deemed to be sullying anyone's image." more on this story

Rob Zombie Warns of Media Fear-Mongering
(Rock News Desk) Rob Zombie isn't surprised some people crack under the pressure of holding down mind-numbing jobs – because he once felt the same way. And he says people shouldn't accept the image of the world presented to them by the media, because life isn't as terrifying as some news outlets claim.

Speaking before the tragic events in Norway took place, Zombie tells the Globe and Mail: "Television news in the United States has gotten into real fear-mongering. I really feel like it's become bread and circuses.

"People are given cheap, crappy entertainment to keep them occupied, and the news keeps them scared so they'll listen to what they're told. But the world's not as scary as they want you to think it is." more on this story

The Steve Miller Band Rocks For Future Rockers
(Sub) The Steve Miller Band played a sold-out concert at Santa Barbara's Lobero Theatre last Tuesday night, July 19, 2011, to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Seymour Duncan Company, the world renowned guitar pickup maker that's headquartered in Goleta.

Aside from a truly remarkable performance, the one-of-a-kind evening was even more amazing because it benefited Notes for Notes, the Santa Barbara-based nonprofit that builds professional grade recording and rehearsal studios where young people can learn how to succeed in the music business. All told, with ticket sales, sponsorships, and auctions combined, the event raised more than $50,000 to ensure that Notes for Notes can continue its mission, which is about to expand to Nashville, Tennessee later this year.

"We couldn't be more thrilled with the outcome," said Notes for Notes executive director and founder Phil Gilley. "We dreamed big, and this evening exceeded all of our wildest expectations. Big thanks to Steve, Seymour, and the crew at New Noise Music Foundation for putting it all together." more on this story

Grandmother Speaking To Dead Husband Inspires Queensryche
(Rock News Desk) Queensryche frontman Geoff Tate has revealed his grandmother carried on conversations with his grandfather every day until she died – even though her husband had passed away years earlier.

He found the experience so moving it inspired the lyrics to the track Broken on the band's latest album, Dedicated to Chaos. And Tate says his role as a musician is to communicate experiences like those to people who've never lived through them.

"Life in general is just one big source of inspiration. One of the most interesting things is the dynamic of personal relationships – there's so much there to work with and talk about." He tells Legendary Rock Interviews. "Broken is written from the experience of my grandmother passing away, and her relationship with her husband. more on this story

Singled Out: MindFlow's Shuffle up and Deal
Today Rafael Pensado from MindFlow tells us about their new single "Shuffle up and Deal" from their latest album "With Bare Hands". Here is the story:

The way MindFlow writes music does not have a particular method, sometimes a riff dictates what the idea is about, sometimes a bass groove or even a drum pattern can spark each others ideas.

This song in particular was born from a bass line idea that Ricardo Winandy brought to the studio and we played along, jamming, looking where could it take us.

The song came out naturally among all of us, but changes and sugestions may appear even on the last minute, like in the recording sessions, it happened.

Danilo Herbert always writes his vocal melodies, even if we have two or more ideas to choose from, he'll always have an idea of what could work for each part.

Lyricwise we all contribute, this song in particular the lyrics are mine (Rafael Pensado) and it talks about a poker match, a hobby i've been having for the past three years now.

The idea is to try to express a thrill of a big hand and how much self control is important not to show either if you have or don't have a good hand. It's the same in life.

Once the song was recorded, Rodrigo Hidalgo, our guitar player takes it to the next level, mixing, of course he contributed big time with killer riffs and all kinds of sugestions during composition.

Over the years he developed a great talent of mixing and producing, it is very nice to have one of us able to handle that huge responsibility.

Anyways, that is the story of this song, you can hear it on youtube or any social network, this song is very intense and melodic fast paced rock tune.
MindFlow is about sharing and thinking together what is best for the band, we believet that and we do like that.

See you all next time, and have a great Rocking Day! Let your MindFlow...

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
