(Rock News Desk) Lita Ford says former bandmates Joan Jett and Cherie Currie should have embraced a Runaways tribute album instead of attempting to block its release. And the guitarist adds she'd have contributed to the record herself, only she found out about it too late.Take It or Leave It: A Tribute to the Queens of Noise features David Johansen of the New York Dolls, the Donnas, Shonen Knife and many others. A cut of the takings are being donated to cancer research in memory of Runaways drummer Sandy West, who died of the disease in 2006.
Last month the announcement of the record's release was swiftly followed by the threat of legal action from Jett and Currie. Their representative said: "This isn't about money – it's strictly about preserving reputation and quality that both Joan and Cherie are known for." But Main Man Records, the label behind the album, responded. "We find it terribly sad that a charitable record could be deemed to be sullying anyone's image." more on this story
