Rolling Stones In Exile Coming To DVD
Eagle Vision is proud to announce the June 22 release of Stones In Exile, a compelling hour long documentary look at the recording of what many rock historians call the greatest album in history: 1972's Exile On Main Street. The packaging comes complete with 90 minutes of behind-the-scenes bonus footage.

There has been, over the years, a veritable mountain of debate, conjecture, written words and mythologizing about this most classic album. It has been the subject of books, of rumors, of innuendo, of stories that have only added to the Stones' legend. Now, for the first time, one can step back in time to the spring of 1971 and enter the villa called Nellcote at Villefranche-sur-Mer in the South of France where Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor created and recorded this most classic of albums in the most chaotic of circumstances.

The footage is extraordinary. It includes interviews with all five Stones as well as sections of the long-dormant notorious Cocksucker Blues movie, which every Rolling Stones fan has talked about, wondered about, but few have actually seen. Other key cinematic moments have Mick and Charlie returning to Olympic Studios where some of the early Exile work was laid down, as well as Mick's country estate, Stargroves. - more on this story

Jackyl Proud of Their Chainsaw Ways!
MetalSucks has a great new interview with Jackyl frontman Jesse James Dupree where they discuss a variety of topics from why Geffen was the greatest label ever, to the problem facing today's music biz, their brand new album When Moonshine and Dynamite Collide and you can't talk to Jackyl without asking about their trademark chainsaw. We've included that bit of the conversation below: Are you sick to death of talking about the chainsaw after all these years or can I ask you a couple of chainsaw questions?

You know what? I'm not. I don't know about talking, but I'm not sick of playing it. I understand it, I guess, in a way, that some of these bands… I think the bands that shy away from what made them attractive to people, I think those bands write their own exit strategy. Whereas, did Angus ever shy away from wearing his schoolboy outfit? No. Does he get sick of wearing it every night? I doubt it. Because it puts him in his mindset, and it puts him in his character – that is who he is. Does Gene Simmons get tired of putting on his makeup if there's a dollar to be made? Hell no! Does Iron Maiden regret that they have to have Eddie walking out onstage? Do they wish they hadn't of done that? Did they ever shy away from those things? They didn't. We never shied away from the chainsaw. It's part of what makes us who we are. Either somebody gets it, or they can get the f*** out of the way. There's going to be this guy that's going to prejudge us or write us off or whatever. They haven't taken time to come and understand that it's about just a true spirit of rock n' roll and having a good time. Is that same guy going to look at Kiss and go, "Why don't they take that stupid makeup off? Why won't Angus get rid of wearing that stupid little outfit?" Do they stand up in the middle of a movie and say, "Spider-Man is not real!" I mean do they really do that? I don't know.

I look back on the archive footage of when rock and roll was first invented. The footage where you see the news people asking the kids, "So what do you young people think about this new rock and roll music?" Have you ever seen any of that footage? Not one single kid back then said, "Oh, it's going to bring about world peace." "It's going to cure cancer." Nobody said that. If you went back in time and told those people that there's going to be a guy named Bono, and he's going to save the world… He's going to be in a band called U2, and he's going to save the world. Those kids would have went, "I don't give a damn. My glands are getting stimulated right now, and I want to hurry up and rock out and jump in the backseat with this girl I'm dancing with and knock out the old dirty-dirty." That's what rock and roll was built on. If you forget that, then you're just missing out.

Check out the full interview, even if you're not very familiar with the group it is a great read. - Read it here

Singled Out: Great Divide's Spare Any Change
Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Great Divide's frontman Teddy Grossman tells us about "Spare Any Change" from their brand new album "reservoir". We now turn it over to Teddy for the story:

'Spare Any Change' is a song inspired by a man who goes by the name of "Runnin' Ronnie", Ann Arbor's favorite vagabond. Ronnie is known all over town as the most popular (and successful) 'fundraiser' for his coined incantation "Spaaaaaaaaare any change my good friend?" Whether or not he'd received any donations, Ronnie would leave you with a fleeting farewell "well, you have a nice day." A pleasant departure from the usual begging practices we are normally accustomed to. Over the course of my years in school I got to know Ronnie a little bit, sticking around for a few minutes to chat with him every now and then. I was always amazed by Ronnie's gleeful demeanor and zest for life, and I even introduced him to my parents when they were in town! Of course Ronnie wasn't always all smiles, as every once in a while he would go on rants about all those women that did him wrong. Getting to know Ronnie had a profound effect on me, and I just couldn't get his "Spare any change?" line out of my head.

As far as actually writing the song, the main hook on the verse really just wrote itself. In truth, the song isn't really about Ronnie the individual. The first verse focuses more on the plight of a person living below poverty lines. Within the first week of arriving in Ann Arbor my freshman year, we received news of the terrifying disaster and of Hurricane Katrina. The shock and horror of the storm and the events that followed had never really left my mind and became the focus of the second verse of the tune, as the scope of the subject matter broadens as the song progresses.

Before we entered the studio, I was really hoping to get Ronnie's voice on the record, since there would be no better way than to pay homage to the man then get his famous line on tape. So one day after we had already tracked the tune I was with Ronnie, and called our drummer Josh, and told him to let his phone go to voicemail. We had Ronnie drop his line on Josh's answering machine and the rest was history.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!
