He was playing Sweet Child O'Mine with his solo band in Milan on Friday night when an unknown man managed to get on stage."It turned out to be not that big a deal, but you never know exactly what it could have been," Slash tells I Heart Guitar. "It was just some drunk guy – it doesn't seem like he had any ill will. He came up behind me and my security guard came up and tackled him, not knowing what the guy was capable of. "The real melee was that tackle – my guard deflected the guy off me, and he got hooked onto my guitar, which I let go of, all in a split second.

Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Runner Runner tells us about their brand new single "So Obvious," which hits radio tomorrow. We now turn it over to the band for the band story:Vocalist Ryan Ogren: You're always trying to find a line that says something familiar in an original way. On this one we came up with the line, 'It's obvious that my heart beats for you,' and built the song around it. It's challenging sometimes to have so many writers in the band, but the ultimate outcome is what makes us Runner Runner; the assimilation of all this input. Guitarist Nick Bailey: This is a song about being in love. Being away from someone you love is never easy, and this song pays tribute to all those who can make a long distance relationship work. We have been touring for the past year and we love it, but it does come with its hardships. Being separated by distance from the ones you love is a true test. The message of the song is about making of the most of the time you have with the people you love. Guitarist Peter Munters: It's a song about our relationship, or any relationship where you really depend on a person you need. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself when you check out the brand new video and grab a free download by signing up for their mailing list

Alain Johannes has announced his debut solo album. Not familiar with the Alain Johannes? Maybe not, but you probably are familiar with his music. Read on: With a resume that includes co-founding the band Eleven and collaborations with Queens of the Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures, Chris Cornell, Mark Lanegan, and Spinnerette (Brody Dalle's latest project) among numerous others, Alain Johannes has already established himself as a gifted and prolific musical talent. However, his forthcoming solo debut Spark (August 31st; Dangerbird Records/Rekords Rekords) is where Johannes' strengths as a songwriter, vocalist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist are finally showcased all at once. Queens of the Stone Age/Them Crooked Vultures frontman Josh Homme, whose label Rekords Rekords will co-release Spark with Dangerbird Records, says: "Alain's record is the total embodiment of what the label stands for—the war against endorsing mediocrity and the uncensored attempt to take a leap off the musical cliff. Spark is a stunning examination of figuring out what you do when someone's gone, and it's utterly breathtaking."

David Byrne explains how architecture helped music evolve in a TED talk which has just gone online. We'll let David explain himself: I was honored to do a TED talk this year — back in Feb. It's about 18 minutes long and now, today, they are posting it online. It is also available as a video podcast downloadable free from the itunes store hereI am hooked on watching these podcast versions of their famous talks, which they've had available for a few years now. You can carry them with you and watch an 18 min talk from an array of incredible thinkers (many of whom are pretty well known) whenever you feel like it. Inspiring stuff. My own talk (it wasn't a musical performance) was based on the idea that the acoustic properties of the clubs, theaters and concert halls where our music might get performed determines to a large extent the kind of music we write. We semi unconsciously create music that will be appropriate to the places in which it will most likely be heard. Put that way it sounds obvious…but most people are surprised that creativity might be steered and molded by such mundane forces. I go further — it seems humans aren't the only ones who do this, who adapt our music to sonic circumstances — birds do it too. I play lots of sound snippets as examples, with images of the venues accompanying them…enjoy. David B Soho

Former Flatline guitarist Randy Weitzel has been hospitalized. The Metal Den sent over this statement from his wife: "Hey all, Randy's wife Bridget here. Randy asked me to let you all know what happened to him (yesterday). We brought him to the ER early in the am with a horrific sore throat. Through the events of the day, we found out he has a severe bacterial infection of some sort. They rushed him into surgery, intubated him and put him on a ventilator to help him breathe. He is currently in ICU and will be for a few days. Randy's been sober and hasn't had a cigarette in over 6 months, so none of this is related to any of that. His vocal chords swelled up so severely, that his airway was almost completely constricted.
