Last November Battling Kings of Leon, Shinedown and Other Not So New Bands for a New Group Award
We were sent the following announcement about an award nomination but we have to introduce it by scratching our head. How can groups who have been around for several years be considered a "new group"? Shinedown has three studio albums, Kings of Leon has four studio albums. Even the band that sent this over released their debut album five years ago. Only one of the five groups came out in 2009. Just something to keep in mind as you read the announcement. It's great that these bands were honored with the nominations, and we aren't trying to take anything away from them but to call this the "pinnacle of achievement" is interesting to say the least. Maybe next year they'll all be up for a life time achievement award? Note that the only alteration we made to the following announcement was to add the year each group released their debut. With that said, here you go!

Pop Rock band Last November (2005) from Atlanta, Georgia has been nominated for their second New Music Weekly Award, in the New Group Category alongside Kings of Leon (2003), 3OH!3 (2008), Boys Like Girls (2006), S.T.E.M. (2009) and Shinedown (2003).

The New Music Weekly Awards, presented by New Music Weekly Magazine, represents the pinnacle of achievement for all music artists, musicians, radio programmers, music directors, radio stations, and industry executives who work in America's popular music genre. Previous award recipients include Katy Perry, Maroon 5, Coldplay and Leona Lewis. - more on this story

Tokyo Rosenthal Announces New Release And Northeast Tour
Rock and Sock Records recording artist, Tokyo Rosenthal, announced today that his new album, 'Ghosts' will be released on January 18. This will be Rosenthal's latest studio album since the highly acclaimed 'Love Won Out' which broke into four different music charts. 'Ghosts' features the previously released single, "Mister Tell Me 'Bout The Great Depression ", the riveting, hard rocking tune that tells the tale of the present economic downturn. Also already getting attention and advance airplay is the bi-lingual ballad "Still She Thanks God". While "Toke's" genre is clearly Americana, his eclectic nature takes this record into some other "neighborhoods" such as jazz on the 5/4 track "Feelings Don't Know Any Age" . And some listeners might feel Stephane Grappelli in the room while listening to "Goin' On Saturday". But country is theme of the day on the very western "And Then You Sang". And dare we forget Toke's love of the "Tex-Mex" sound that he ventures back into on the title track, "Ghosts".

Rosenthal is joined once again by an all star lineup to accompany him on his original material and his own multi instrument recording. Featured artists include Al Perkins on pedal steel guitar, Chris Stamey on bass, Peter Holsapple on accordion, Bobby Britt on fiddle, Jim Steinberg on banjo, Tim Rae on drums and Lisa Lacheau on flute. Rosenthal chimes in on rhythm and lead guitar, piano, drums, harmonica and mandolin as well as all vocals. The album was produced by Rosenthal with additional production by Stamey.

'Ghosts' will be available at most on-line outlets including CD Baby, iTunes, HMV and Amazon.com. It will also have retail distribution via Dynasty Records in the US and Europe. - more on this story

The Kissaway Trail Set Release
The Kissaway Trail, from Odense, Denmark, are releasing their 12-track LP, entitled Sleep Mountain via Bella Union on April 6th, 2010. Eleven of the tracks are original, and one is a cover of the haunting Neil Young song, "Philadelphia," the title track from the 1993 motion picture by Jonathan Demme. Sleep Mountain is a brilliant sonic assault. With all 5 band members sharing vocal duties, 4 on guitar and 2 on keys, the sound results in glorious melodies, epic choruses, and high octane energy. This pop-savvy rock band arrives on US shores to open arms.

The Kissaway Trail was formed by members Sψren Corneliussen (Lead Vocals, Guitar, Keyboards) and Thomas Fagerlund (Lead Vocals, Guitar, Keyboards) who share duty as front-men and key songwriters. The duo previously recorded as the band, Isles, and released an album in 2005. Later, the pair was joined by members, Daniel Skjoldmose Hansen (Lead Guitar, Mandolin, Vocals), Hasse Mydtskov (Drums, Vocals) and Rune Pedersen (Bass Guitar, Vocals). Together, they recorded and released their debut self-titled album in 2007, which was received with deafening praise across the UK and Europe. A record that England's The Independent called, "the debut album of the year." Along with The Independents acclaim, the young band achieved 4-star reviews from top critics at The Guardian, Mojo and The Times, instating The Kissaway Trail's musical promise.

Setting their sights even higher, in early 2008, The Kissaway Trail set out to record their sophomore release, and the first for America. They rehearsed in a desolate rented farm close to their home in Odense (Denmark's third largest city, situated on the island of Funen) before shifting to the French mountains to narrow down their material. By the end of 2008, they moved the recording process to Sweden. At the close of the year, and the album nearly done, the band realized it was not the musical vision they intended and decided to trash the record, and begin fresh at the top of 2009. Sleep Mountain, was made at Odense's Lydkraft Studio, where the magic of their debut record had also been created, with their dream producer, Peter Katis (Interpol, The National, Sigur Rσs' Jσnsi) in just two weeks. - more on this story

Boston's Kimberley Dahme Talks New Solo Album, Being part of Rock Legands Boston and more
(Ross CAT) In 2001 Tom Scholz & Gary Pihl of Boston set out to remedy vacancies in the rhythm section as they planned to tour to support the "Cooperate America" album. They roamed into the Sit 'N' Bull Pub in Maynard, Mass. to see Buffalo Native & Dynamic Musician/Producer Tom Hambridge looking for a drummer dude when they stumbled upon one Ms. Kimberley Dahme who happened to be playing acoustic guitar with Hambridge. Scholz had "More Than a Feelin" after witnessing the stage presence & vocal prowess of the multi-talented enchantress who was on the cusp of branching out on her own successful solo career.

The only women to ever grace the band Boston, Dahme has written, recorded & toured with the band since 2001. While that may seem like a full schedule in itself the single mother of two has managed to record five more solo records in the interim and shows no signs of slowing down in 2010 both with BOSTON & on the solo front. Her most recent release "You Make Me Believe" finds her penning her most poignant songs to date.

The Rock Rapport had the pleasure of talking with Kimberley from her home in Nashville about her visit to Infinity as part of the Rock 'n' Soul Christmas Show sharing the bill with Rochester Rockers D:Drive. - Check it out here

No Explanation for Seventh Vail
Seventh Vail signed with No Explanation Records to deliver an album in summer 2010. Seventh Vail is a four piece wrecking ball of energy from Northern Virginia. Founding members Camden Unglesbee and JC formed with Alex Vinny and Ken Barber in the summer of 2009. After only playing a handful of local shows immediate public notice began to follow as the band opened for Veil of Maya at Jaxx nightclub.

Each member from the band brings a unique dynamic to the table, that when combined creates an amazing blend of modern hardcore punk attitude with heavy metal tendencies. Leaving crowds with jaws on the floor, Seventh Vail is a band with a no holds barred mentality.

Seventh Vail front man Camden Unglesbee is a long time industry veteran and is also joining No Explanation Records as Director of Label Development. "I am excited about the addition of Seventh Vail and Camden helping to grow this label. This powerful addition puts NER in a position to grow rapidly in the first quarter of 2010. It is going to be an amazing year" commented No Explanation Records founder and CEO Jay Burton. - more on this story
