Last November Battling Kings of Leon, Shinedown and Other Not So New Bands for a New Group Award

01/05/2010
.
We were sent the following announcement about an award nomination but we have to introduce it by scratching our head. How can groups who have been around for several years be considered a "new group"? Shinedown has three studio albums, Kings of Leon has four studio albums. Even the band that sent this over released their debut album five years ago. Only one of the five groups came out in 2009. Just something to keep in mind as you read the announcement. It's great that these bands were honored with the nominations, and we aren't trying to take anything away from them but to call this the "pinnacle of achievement" is interesting to say the least. Maybe next year they'll all be up for a life time achievement award? Note that the only alteration we made to the following announcement was to add the year each group released their debut. With that said, here you go!

Pop Rock band Last November (2005) from Atlanta, Georgia has been nominated for their second New Music Weekly Award, in the New Group Category alongside Kings of Leon (2003), 3OH!3 (2008), Boys Like Girls (2006), S.T.E.M. (2009) and Shinedown (2003).

The New Music Weekly Awards, presented by New Music Weekly Magazine, represents the pinnacle of achievement for all music artists, musicians, radio programmers, music directors, radio stations, and industry executives who work in America's popular music genre. Previous award recipients include Katy Perry, Maroon 5, Coldplay and Leona Lewis.

Luke Pilgrim shares, "it is an honor to be included in a category with such phenomenal artists, and we are excited to be nominated for two years in a row. We had an outstanding 2009, and this is a great way to kick off our 2010!"

Last November continues to gain nationwide recognition, with the release of their latest single and music video for "Julie" off their brand new EP "tug o' war!" to be released January 26, 2010. "tug o' war" follows up the band's hit sophomore album "Over the Top or Under the Weather," which was released in the spring of 2008. The album featured the single "Seventeen at Three in the Morning" which was dubbed "the teen anthem of 2009" by AOL Red, Seventeen Magazine Online, and by numerous teen publications nationwide, while receiving radio airplay on over 200 radio stations across the US with numbers still growing daily.

The New Music Weekly Awards will be held in early 2010 at Avalon Hollywood in Hollywood, California.
