Aerosmith's Tyler Wasn't Allowed To Walk Slash's Way
It doesn't take too close of a listen to know that Aerosmith is one of Slash's biggest influences so it was curious that his star-packed solo album didn't feature a collaboration with a member from his favorite band.

We know learn that it was planned but apparently label politics prevented it from coming off. "When it came down to it I ended up working with everybody I'd pegged for the material I wrote," Slash says in a new interview.

"I worked with Steven for a second, but it was a huge conflict of interest with Aerosmith. There was no chance the label was going to allow us to release it, so we had to let it go," he said. "The song hasn't been used with anybody else, so I might go back and revisit that with Steven." - Read more at Rock Radio

The Gap Band's Robert Wilson Dies From Heart Attack
Gibson had this sad news yesterday: Founding member of The Gap Band, bassist Robert Wilson died Sunday, according to Billboard.com. He suffered a heart attack at his home in Palmdale, California. He was 53.

Known as the "Godfather of Bass Guitar," Robert formed The Gap Band with his brothers Charlie and Ronnie in the late '60s in their hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Originally, they were known as the Greenwood, Archer and Pine Street Band, before they shortened the moniker to The Gap Band.

Although the funk group is best known for its 1982 pop hit "You Dropped a Bomb on Me," The Gap Band had a streak of R&B hits from the late '70s all the way into the mid-'90s. - more on this story

Linkin Park's new album, A Thousand Suns, will be released September 14th. But fans won't have to wait until then for a taste of what's to come as the band have announced a free iPhone and Android App and the world premiere of a new video from the effort.

Linkin Park has announced the worldwide MTV/VH1 premiere of the video 'The Catalyst' on August 26th 2010. The video will premiere on MTV, VH1, MTV2, mtvU, MTV Hits, MTV Tr3s and all MTV international territories, (MTV, VH1 and MTV2 at 8:00pm primetime PDT/EDT). It will go online globally on MTV.com and onVH1.com at 12am EDT on the night of August 25th. The video of "The Catalyst" was directed by Linkin Park's Joe Hahn. "When coming up with the idea of the visual piece to accompany the song, I thought of the end, " Hahn says. "What would it look like and feel like if someone pushed the button to decide our fate? What would it feel like if we accepted our fate in the moment of devastation? If we had a final moment to celebrate our final living moments, how would that feel? When J. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb, described the first test detonation of the atomic bomb, he famously recalled the Bhagavad Ghita, which says, 'If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendor of the mighty one.'"

Paul McCartney, Slash, Billy Gibbons and Al Di Meola To Tribute Les Paul
Paul McCartney, Slash, Billy Gibbons and Al Di Meola will all take part in a television tribute to the late great Les Paul. Gibson has the story:

It was one year ago this month that the music world lost, perhaps, its greatest innovator. Les Paul passed away on August 12, 2009, and left behind a legacy that will never be matched. Paul was more than a masterful player (though he will certainly be remembered for his peerless fretboard skills). He was also an inventor, who revolutionized both modern studio recording and the solid-body electric guitar. For the latter, of course, he will be forever commemorated by the instrument which bears his name: the Gibson Les Paul.

The CNN International program, icon, will celebrate the life and legacy of Les Paul with a special edition of the show on August 26 at 11:30 and 16:30 GMT. The show will feature a visit to the Gibson Custom Shop to watch Paul's signature guitar being lovingly crafted by the greatest luthiers in the world. The program will also travel to New York City's Iridium Jazz Club, where Paul played with the Les Paul Trio until the age of 93. The show will also feature interviews with some of the biggest stars in music paying tribute to the Wizard of Waukesha, including Sir Paul McCartney, Slash, Billy Gibbons and Al Di Meola. Les Paul's son, Russ Paul, will also look back on the life of his famous father. - Check out a preview here

Singled Out: Riotgod (Monster Magnet's Bob Pantella and Jim Baglino)
Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Sunshine from Riotgod (which features Monster Magnet's Bob Pantella and Jim Baglino) tells us about "Crusader" from their brand new album. We now turn it over to Sunshine for the story:

The music in Riotgod is most often written first. I get the music, place in the CD and see if anything hits me. With the music that would turn out to be "Crusader" I heard the opening bass line and thought about Rage Against the Machine. I am sometimes cynical toward protest music, if it becomes for my taste a bit dreary or over-bearing. Some people, some Indymedia types eat that sh*t up and dig such music, so devoted to the attitude of protest across the board. I imagined protesting for some as some kind of hobby.

I imagined one of the hemp-wearing, smart, white-gal with dreads type you might who somehow gets your ear and begins to really go off on everything from wage-slavery to saving species. All these causes are worthy sure. Yet sometimes it just seems like a drag. Combine that image with the tried and true "let's get together a superduper group of popular musicians" to fight whatever might be the flavor of the day and you have this tongue in cheek look at protest through music.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!

Slayer Announce Vinyl Conflict
Slayer fanatics this one is for you. The band have announced a massive vinyl box set: For the first time in its near-30 year history, Slayer, the single most distinctive and radical thrash metal band ever, will see its ten American Recordings albums released as a limited-edition, high-end, box set - The Vinyl Conflict (American Recordings/Sony Legacy).

Ten albums on 11 discs, The Vinyl Conflict will feature the band's entire Def/American Recordings catalogue: Reign In Blood (1986), South of Heaven (1988), Seasons In The Abyss (1990), the double-record Live Decade of Aggression (1991), Divine Intervention (1994), Undisputed Attitude (1998), God Hates Us All (2001), Christ Illusion (2006), and World Painted Blood (2009). Kings of Leon Announce Pigeon Poop Make-Up Gig
Kings of Leon are returning to the scene of the pigeon-pop incident. Gibson reports that the group are planning a September gig at the infamous "Pigeon-Gate" venue in St. Louis, MO. On July 23, the band performed at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, but had to cut their set short after three songs, due to the many pigeons in the rafters, who were pooping on the band and their equipment.

The group took plenty of flack in the media about the incident, but have promised to make it up to all of those in attendance, according to STLToday.com. The Kings of Leon show scheduled for September 25, will be free for all who had tickets to the original gig. In addition, bargain-priced tickets will be sold at $10.

Bassist Jared Followill, reportedly the worst victim of the pigeons' behavior, said his band instantly thought about working out details for a make-up show. "As soon as what happened happened, we knew we were going to come back," he said. "We knew [leaving] would be horrible, and we knew people were not going to be happy. We were just trying to figure out the best way and the easiest way to get back and make it better." -

Pink Floyd Albums Removed from iTunes
Pink Floyd join The Beatles and AC/DC as digital hold outs, but not exactly by choice. Gibson reports: Fans seeking to purchase some of Pink Floyd's classics albums on iTunes have hit a wall. All of the legendary band's post-Dark Side of the Moon albums have disappeared from online MP3 retailers, due to the group's contract with EMI that covered those works, which ended on June 30, according to the Associated Press.

That means you can't buy The Wall, Animals or Wish You Were Here on iTunes, Amazon's MP3 shop or many other locations. The physical copies of those albums are still available on CD, but only because EMI has a stock of those recordings that it can still sell. However, if Pink Floyd doesn't sign with another distributor (or re-sign with EMI), their latter-day albums could become rare. The earlier works, from Piper at the Gates of Dawn through Dark Side are part of a different contract and remain available on CD or as digital downloads.

Pink Floyd's management has been trying to find the best home for the band's full catalogue for the past year or more, but has yet to come to an agreement with any major label. Although many groups have had trouble selling albums in recent years, Pink Floyd remains one of the best-selling acts of the Nielsen SoundScan era. Since 1991, the group has sold more than 36 million albums in the United States. Relying solely on older products, Pink Floyd sold 654,000 copies last year and 311,000 so far in 2010. In recent years, digital downloads have accounted for about 40 percent of the band's sales. - more on this story
