Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Sunshine from Riotgod (which features Monster Magnet's Bob Pantella and Jim Baglino) tells us about "Crusader" from their brand new album. We now turn it over to Sunshine for the story:The music in Riotgod is most often written first. I get the music, place in the CD and see if anything hits me. With the music that would turn out to be "Crusader" I heard the opening bass line and thought about Rage Against the Machine. I am sometimes cynical toward protest music, if it becomes for my taste a bit dreary or over-bearing. Some people, some Indymedia types eat that sh*t up and dig such music, so devoted to the attitude of protest across the board. I imagined protesting for some as some kind of hobby.
I imagined one of the hemp-wearing, smart, white-gal with dreads type you might who somehow gets your ear and begins to really go off on everything from wage-slavery to saving species. All these causes are worthy sure. Yet sometimes it just seems like a drag. Combine that image with the tried and true "let's get together a superduper group of popular musicians" to fight whatever might be the flavor of the day and you have this tongue in cheek look at protest through music.
Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!
