Jimi Hendrix Personal Items To Be Part of Smithsonian Exhibition
Jimi Hendrix's Personal Items Arrive at the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian accompanied by his sister, Janie Hendrix.

The items include a colorful patchwork full-length leather coat, a leather necklace and a leather pouch. These are among the very few of the rock legend's possessions sent home to his family from his apartment in New York after he died on Sept. 18, 1970.

Though Hendrix's father asked that all of his son's belongings be sent home to Seattle, including a hundred guitars, scant few arrived. The coat was an obvious favorite of Hendrix's, as seen from the deep creases around the elbows, dark demarcation sweat lines and well-worn hem; until today, the coat has never been displayed nor have photos of it been published. The coat is the signature piece in the upcoming exhibition, "Up Where We Belong: Native Musicians in Popular Culture," which opens Thursday, July 1. This exhibition examines Native people who have been active participants in contemporary music for nearly a century. - more on this story

The Promise Ring Offshoot Maritime Plan Release On Dangerbird This Year
Dangerbird Records is pleased to announce Milwaukee mainstays Maritime are the newest members of their expanding family. The band, which spawned from the ashes of The Promise Ring in 2003, is currently readying new material for release later this year.

This latest signing for the Los Angeles-based label is somewhat of a reunion, as Milwaukee native Jeff Castelaz, co-owner and CEO of Dangerbird, has an extensive history with the band, which dates back to his days managing The Promise Ring. Both Maritime singer Davey von Bohlen and drummer Dan Didier were founding members of The Promise Ring.

Hailed for their keen sense of pop songcraft and rollicking live shows, Maritime will perform songs from their extensive catalog this Friday, April 30 at University of Wisconsin, in Madison, WI.

Recently, Maritime took part in The Onion AV Club's "Undercover" series, where 25 bands reinterpret 25 classic indie and alternative rock songs. Their take on the Depeche Mode staple, "Enjoy the Silence," which has been smoothed out and injected with a healthy dose of keytar, can be heard - here

Live at Lime with The Soundtrack of Our Lives
On a rainy afternoon in February, Gφteberg, Sweden's The Soundtrack of Our Lives made their way to Stratosphere Sound (which counts ex-Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha as one of its owners) in New York City. Only hours after landing, they plugged in their equipment and cranked out five fantastic numbers that comprise Live at Lime with The Soundtrack of Our Lives.

This just-released exclusive EP for LimeWire Store was engineered and mixed by Grammy-winning producer Geoff Sanoff (Stephen Colbert, Nada Surf, Michael Stipe). It comes hot on the heels of the sextet's well-received sixth album, Communion, where the Grammy-nominated group struts their classic-rock sound, a mix of epic neo-psychedelia and urgent, riff-laden soul.
"We didn't really think about the songs we played," said vocalist Ebbot Lundberg about the band's Live at Lime session. "I can't really analyze how it works. If it feels good, it feels good."

"TSOOL embody what we hope for when recording these sessions — great musicianship, a fun attitude, and a willingness to play around and give us fresh takes on their material," said Tom Monday, Director of Partner Relations. "Add an award-winning engineer like Geoff Sanoff to the mix and it's like magic — it was a joy to watch these guys at work."

Chambers' debut album, "Old Love" will see a nationwide digital release June 22nd 2010. "Old Love" will be available for download from the following retailers iTunes, Rhapsody, MySpace Music, Amazon, EMUSIC, LALA, IMVU, Amie St, Shockhound.com, Nokia Music Store and the Lime Wire Store.

In New Jersey, everyone seems to be in a metal or hardcore band. Too often, bands take the easy way out and simply mimic the sound of the most recent trends. Bands few and far between attempt to transgress the expectations of what metal and hardcore acts are expected to sound like.

Described as "the band to take over" and "the sound of 2010" by James Gill and Terry Beezer of Metal Hammer Magazine, CHAMBERS is a metallic hardcore wrecking ball on a mission to destroy expectations. Always willing to set a fire and fan the flames, CHAMBERS' debut album, "OLD LOVE" is poised for a new blend of aggression and is "not for the faint hearted."

Neil Young Illustrated History Announced
Voyageur Press has joined forces with rock journalists Daniel Durchholz (Rolling Stone) and Gary Graff (New York Times) for the brand new book, Neil Young -- Long May You Run: The Illustrated History. This lovingly assembled tome -- the first complete illustrated history published about this legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee -- arrives May 15, 2010 to coincide with Young's Summer 2010 tour and celebrate five decades of genre-spanning work, perfectly mixing expertly researched text and many never-before-seen photos.

This heavy duty 224-page volume follows Young's long-and-winding career, from the early days of Buffalo Springfield, on through CSNY, and of course, his unpredictably exhilarating solo career.

Born and raised in Canada, Neil Young is equally best known for acoustic/folk hits ("Heart of Gold," "Old Man") and raunchy garage rock ("Cinnamon Girl," "Hey Hey, My My") -- not to mention stops with the harmony-driven CSNY ("Ohio") and the psychedelic pop of Buffalo Springfield ("For What It's Worth"). This thoroughly enticing book will certainly appeal to fans of all eras of "Neil." And in addition to countless photographs from the 1960s all the way to the present, also included are concert posters and memorabilia from around the world, complemented by commentary from notable musicians around the world, as well as an extensive discography.

Folk Songs Of The American Longhair
Like the mad lovechild of Robert Johnson and Jim Morrison, Dege Legg (aka Brother Dege), the Cajun-born and Louisiana-raised leader of the band Santeria, releases his "slide/Dobro record" entitled Folk Songs Of The American Longhair, produced by 4x Grammy-winner Tony Daigle (Dr. John, Sonny Landreth, Gatemouth Brown, Bobby Charles), Legg and Primo (also from Santeria).

This is Delta Blues for the 21st Century, raging out of the swamplands of Louisiana. Dripping with atmosphere and backwoods noir. The real deal—death-obsessed, god-fearing, foot stomping acoustic blues steeped in the devilish myths and haunted ambience that permeates every inch of Louisiana. Factor in some Historic longhaired rock & roll influences – from Sabbath to Black Flag – and you've got an art project and anthropological study wrapped in one time traveling package.

Folk Songs of the American Longhair takes the listener on a mind-bending, soul-crushing slide guitar journey into the backroads of the Deep South. Legg composed ten original tunes in the Delta-slide tradition, paying tribute to the old masters while pushing into the apocalyptic future. Much like the field recordings of Alan Lomax, the record tunnels into the ancient mysteries of pre-war blues, recorded in sheds, old houses and open fields. It's like Son House at a surrealist convention. Slide players from the U.S. to Europe are already covering the tunes - via a series of live Brother Dege YouTube videos which have garnered over 150,000 plays with no promotional hype or jive. - more on this story

Singled Out: Far's Deafening
Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Far frontman Jonah tells us about "Deafening" from their brand new album. We now turn it over to Jonah for the story:

Shaun sent me a bunch of ideas to write vocals for. This one riff he had labeled 'Beauty' kept coming back into my head. I actually wrote a really silly dance lyric for it at first, just to get it out of my system.

Then, while I was trying to figure something else out, I had a conversation with a friend. He's a really sweet guy, but his rhetoric sounded so cruel underneath the calm, pseudo-logical presentation.

It just got me thinking about the curse of privilege, and how oddly entitled and selfish we've become, under this illusory banner of 'personal freedom'. Seems to me that in the vain search for truth, purity and headlines, we're losing sight of simple common sense, let alone compassion

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!
