PR reports: Riding the wave of success of their latest album Fantasies, Metric announces that they will hit the road for a fresh round of North American tour dates this fall, beginning on November 16th at Town Ballroom in Buffalo, NY. Metric stands out amongst a new breed of music acts that opts for a hands-on approach, as opposed to turning to established labels and large management companies to chart their destiny and develop fan relationships. That success is punctuated by the fact that Metric's debut single, "Help I'm Alive," has officially cracked the Top 20 Alternative charts on US commercial radio (Mediabase.) The single got something of an organic start as it was accidentally leaked online, picked up by The Hype Machine blog and then put on air by Seattle's KNDD last February.

PR reports: When world-renowned banjoist Bela Fleck (winner of 11 Grammys and nominated in more categories than any other musician in Grammy history) realized that his instrument had lost its musical heritage, he decided to make a pilgrimage to Africa to rediscover the banjo's folk music roots.Overflowing with the incredible music of Fleck and the many celebrated folk musicians who hosted him in Africa, BÉLA FLECK: THROW DOWN YOUR HEART follows the banjo virtuoso on a musical adventure that takes him from Uganda to Tanzania and from the Gambia to Mali. As he travels through the continent to research the history of the banjo and record an album with some of Africa's finest musicians—and, in his words, "to make great music"—Fleck discovers the rich and diverse musical traditions of Africa, as well as the warmth and generosity of its people. Through its stunning location footage, enthusiastic jam sessions, and hauntingly beautiful music, director Sascha Paladino's multi-award-winning BÉLA FLECK: THROW DOWN YOUR HEART captures one of the world's greatest musicians demonstrating how music transcends languages, cultures and continents. With an inspirational soundtrack and several prestigious film awards including Best Music Doc from Silverdocs and Audience Awards from SXSW and Vancouver International Film Festival, THROW DOWN YOUR HEART premiered theatrically to the highest national per-screen average earning in its opening weekend. And now you can bring home this treasured film on DVD on November 3, 2009 from Docurama Films.

PR reports: Texas musical gun slingers The Mag Seven ready the release of their fifth album, Cotton Needle Sessions on October 6 through label, End Sounds. The Mag Seven are "instrumentalists for hire," combining their musical influences of Black Flag and the Descendents to John Coltrane and Ennio Marricone, The Ventures, and Stravinsky, they have managed to produce a sound of their own that includes everything from punk-surf and spaghetti western themes to jazz. Cotton Needle Sessions is a true instrumental journey. "I want people to enjoy it for what it is and listen to it from start to finish (as was intended). The songs and sequence work together like the soundtrack for a date," explains guitarist and songwriter, Brandon Landelius. "It starts out slow and suggestive and slowly builds tension and finally ends with...you know what...probably in a car somewhere..." With the album starting off as mainly a jazz collection, with a bit of a surf bend to it, Landelius wanted to do something different with their fifth album. He enlisted the help of close friend, Bill Stevenson, to play drums. Stevenson brought in all of the key elements of a stellar percussionist, expertise that extends far beyond the norm. Bassist, Donivan Blair's playing is also a departure from familiar territory and exhibits an amazing sense for music's inner nature, regardless of the genre. Together, they are a musical tour-de-force and an excellent instrumental ensemble.

PR reports: Super 400 released their fifth studio album, Sweet Fist, September 15th, 2009 on Response Records/Rock Ridge Music. Recorded on tape at the famed Ardent Studios in Memphis, TN, with cover art by Klaus Voormann, the renowned creator of the Beatles' 'Revolver' album cover, this album is the band's most skillful work to date, holding strong to their influences from legends like Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Blind Faith and Zeppelin. Super 400 takes the classic 'power trio' approach: three instruments taking up the sonic space of an airplane hangar, rocking to the heavens - but their vocal dynamics and spiritual synergy cause the sounds to swell to the bursting point. In the band's first year, Geoff Travis of Trade 2 Records brought them over to London, and they were signed by Island Records. Island planned to herald the return of Rock and Roll with Super 400 as a flagship force in the new millennium. The young band had their first album in the chamber, ready to take on the world. In a twist of fate that would foreshadow an unstable music biz, Polygram Co was soon bought out, folding the hierarchy at Island, but this didn't break the bands bond, only made them stronger. When asked where the title "Sweet Fist" originated from, bassist Lori Friday says, "The sweet fist is a beautiful moment in imagination, a sincere effort, strength in kindness, truth in a message, this family's assemblage of love and warmth through sound. Recording the record in Memphis allowed us to absorb the grit and fever of the town - the album title revealed itself through the adventures we had there and is a adjective for the sounds we will share with fans."
