The New Driving While Britney Defense
TMZ reports: She may not have put the brakes on when she should have, but Britney now wants the judge in her lil' traffic accident case to slam those suckers down.

You'll recall Brit is set to stand trial for driving without a valid California license -- a case that has dragged on for a year. Remember, the crazy version of Britney struck a car in August of last year and the cops found she was driving with a Louisiana license in Los Angeles.

Now her lawyer wants the judge to stop the trial, at least for now, because of the conservatorship. According to the docs, she's still not totally with it. Brit is "unable to participate meaningfully in her defense." - more on this story

Gogol Bordello Non-Stop At AFI Fest
PR reports: Gogol Bordello Non-Stop, Margarita Jimeno's rollicking feature-length music documentary that goes behind the scenes of the gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello and its charismatic front man Eugene Hόtz, will make its North American Premiere on November 1 at the prestigious AFI Fest in Los Angeles.

From the birth of a New York City downtown Ruso-disco phenomena, known as Bulgarian Bar, to a non-stop touring marathon, with his band Gogol Bordello, Eugene Hόtz takes us deep into his artistic foundation. Through music, the film delivers messages of social and political commentary, and captures Gogol Bordello in the act of performing, whether as headliner or as the spark of incendiary jams. Gogol Bordello Non-Stop unfolds from 2001 to 2006, following Gogol's steps from underground legends to international attention.

Miranda Nettwerk
PR reports: A revered singer and songwriter, Miranda will release her Nettwerk debut Light of X on February 10, 2009.

For her new album, Miranda composed all of the material, string arrangements, acoustic guitar, piano and Hammond B3 on the disc. It's an album that shimmers with folk, country, psychedelic and even a slight classical influence, balancing her beautiful, close to the heart vocals, with music that has the wide open, spacious feel of a desert sky or an empty church. Light Of X is an album full of love and loss, desolation and salvation, both moody and comforting. - more on this story

Airborne Toxic Event In the UK
PR reports: Los Angeles indie upstarts the Airborne Toxic Event are set to embark on their first UK Tour as they race across the UK to play an unheard of 30 shows in 30 days.

The UK is no doubt going to be experiencing a great live band. The Orange County Register (don't hold this against the band) wrote in a recent review of the group's show with the Fratellis (part of their current tour): "the real excitement this night came from a first encounter with opening act the Airborne Toxic Event, a striking quintet from the Los Feliz area that has been racking up next-big-thing talk from Rolling Stone and the L.A. press all year." [OC Register and Rolling Stone? Ouch! Where is the third strike going to come from? At least PitchDork didn't praise them.]

The Airborne Toxic Event have enormous grassroots support. The band's first single "Sometime Around Midnight" underwent the rarest of occurrences when it was added to rotation at KROQ and Indie 103.1 prior to having a record label or a manager. - more on this story

. Bourgeois Gypsies - Faulty Fairytales
Kaisa MacDonald is kind of a blend of Joni Mitchell and Edie Brickell. She has that kind of Bohemian/folk vibe embodied in both of those artists. That being said, Kaisa is a pretty unique singer who requires a unique term: soulfolk. (4 stars) - Read the full Bourgeois Gypsies - Faulty Fairytales review
