(PR) Gogol Bordello Non-Stop, Margarita Jimeno's rollicking feature-length music documentary that goes behind the scenes of the gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello and its charismatic front man Eugene Hütz, will make its North American Premiere on November 1 at the prestigious AFI Fest in Los Angeles. From the birth of a New York City downtown Ruso-disco phenomena, known as Bulgarian Bar, to a non-stop touring marathon, with his band Gogol Bordello, Eugene Hütz takes us deep into his artistic foundation. Through music, the film delivers messages of social and political commentary, and captures Gogol Bordello in the act of performing, whether as headliner or as the spark of incendiary jams. Gogol Bordello Non-Stop unfolds from 2001 to 2006, following Gogol's steps from underground legends to international attention. Much of that attention was recently bestowed upon Gogol Bordello when Madonna performed a mash up between Lela Pala Tute (a traditional Gypsy song) and La Isla Bonita, with Hütz and Gogol member Sergey Ryabtsev last year at the Live Earth concert. Their performance became an immediate sensation on YouTube. Hütz is no stranger to the big screen making his acting debut as Alex in Liev Schreiber's film Everything Is Illuminated, for which he also contributed to the soundtrack. Jimeno is an emerging director and writer, who brings her unique creative and visual style to all projects ranging from documentaries, short films, music videos and feature films. Jimeno has two fiction scripts right now in revision "Feminine Technical Difficulties" a tragic comedy set in New York and "Guerrero" an epic drama set in 1980's Colombia. Born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, Jimeno moved to New York in 1997 where she continues to live and work. Jimeno started filming Hütz in 2000 while he was DJing at Bulgarian Bar in New York's Chinatown. A Russian friend took her there after hearing her complain about the music scene in the city. "Although the Eastern European touch had an exotic appeal to me, I also felt a strange familiarity with my Punk Rock scene back in Colombia. I was immediately converted, and from then on, almost never skipped the weekly DJ Hütz gathering," said Jimeno. "I'm thrilled we are going straight to Hollywood to have the North American premiere. Who would have thought Gypsy Punks are also loved on the West coast. What a great way to enter a town for the first time!" Gogol Bordello Non-Stop is an Official Selection of the 2008 Munich, Goteberg and Ghent international film festivals, and also screened to members of the European Social Forum. Gogol Bordello Non-Stop gets a prime premiere slot at AFI Fest on Saturday, November 1st at 7:10 PM at Arclight Hollywood, Theater 9 with an encore screening on Wednesday, November 5 at 12:30 PM at Arclight Hollywood, Theater 13.
