Bayside Deny Their Emoness
antiMusic reports: Bayside's Anthony Raneri issued a blog posting denying his band's emoness. Keep in mind that he was basically whining about being called emo, or being compared to other bands that sound pretty much exactly like Bayside and the zillion other bands that get featured on Fearless Records compilations. Punknews.org has the 411: Raneri has responded to the wealth of criticism his band has received since their video began airing on MTV. Anthony had this to say:

I feel pretty confident in the fact that we don't sound like Boys Like Girls or All Time Low. Our music and lyrics are abrasive and they have a tendency to weed out the sh*t heads. Bayside is not and will never be casual listening.

If you don't get it, you don't get it and that's all. If a 30 year old hardcore guys from Boston or a 20 year old Modest Mouse fan in Seattle or 15 year old teeny bopper from Dallas understands our band, like what we're doing and can relate to it in any way, then that's amazing. - more on this story

Cancellation Report: Hatesphere, Alicia Keys, Nightwish
antiMusic reports: With so many artists canceling shows these days, we figured a new series was in order. Today's cancellation report features shows from Hatesphere, Nightwish, and Alicia Keys.

First up Hatesphere offered the following bad news "Due to logistics, the local promoter in Oulu, has been forced to cancel the scheduled show tomorrow, Friday the 25th. We are truly sorry for the inconvenience this may cause anyone and rest assured that we are already working hard on setting up another show in Oulu."

Then there is Alicia Keys who was forced to cancel two stops on her "A Big Car Company Presents the Alicia Keys I Need A Really Long Meaningless Name For A Tour." Keys is having a knock out drag out fight with her swollen vocal chords and had to axe two shows this week already. At press time she is scheduled to still perform on Saturday night in Columbus, Oh, but that could change between now and then. So check with the venue before you head out. No details about how her vocal chords became swollen. Maybe her swollen tour title spread unexpectedly?

The Metal Underground had this report on Nightwish: "Finnish/Swedish symphonic metallers NIGHTWISH have cancelled the first show (May 5 at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey) of their previously announced spring 2008 U.S. tour due to logistical reasons. According to a source familiar with the situation, NIGHTWISH's gear was to fly from Mexico City, where the band is performing on May 2 and May 3. This flight — the only one from Mexico to Newark — was cancelled by the airline" - more on this story

Run DMC Murder Witness Going To Prison
Gigwise reports: An eyewitness to the death of Run DMC legend Jam Master Jay has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for a string of robbery offences.

Ronald Washington has long been accused by Federal prosecutors of being more than a witness to the rappers death, which took place in a Queens recording studio in 2002.

Prosecutors have previously claimed that Washington held people at gunpoint while another unknown individual shot the Run DMC icon. - more on this story

Dorky Weezer Cover Is Legit
MTV reports: You know the supposed cover for Weezer's upcoming Red album that hit the Net late Monday? The one that features the band sporting looks that blogs have described as "The New Village People: The Bartender, the Professor, the Cowboy and the Biker" (Pitch[d]ork) and "the four dudes ... [hoping] to spread the worst aspects of Williamsburg's nightlife ... to the Best Buy masses" (Idolator)?

Well, despite those glowing reviews — and the creeping suspicion by many Weezer fans that the cover is some sort of elaborate hoax — we can confirm that, yes, that is the actual cover of the band's third self-titled album, nicknamed Red, which will hit stores on June 24. But no, we're not sure what the meaning behind Rivers' "suburban cowboy" look is, either.

"Yes, that's absolutely the cover," Jim Merlis, the band's publicist, told MTV News. "It's what they chose. They looked at a bunch of mockups, and that's the one they decided to go with. It's not a joke." - But the plot thickens

Nine Inch Axl- WYSP Rocks Philly- Aiken a Clay Later- Don't Know Jack - updates and mailbag
antiMusic reports: We ran a mailbag earlier this week but a couple of issues have come up with this week's coverage so we're posting this update/mailbag today. But first, we have a new feature we're gonna call "Tune In" that will showcase some of the rare radio stations out there that still broadcast cool music. Today we're giving a quick shout out to Philly's Rock Station 94 WYSP. They are one of the growing number of radio stations that syndicate the Day in Rock on their website. But they also stream live on their site 24/7 so they get blasted at anti HQ quite a bit and have fueled many a Day in Rock postings with their mix of modern and classic rock. Not many stations would follow Hendrix with Stone Temple Pilots and then Zeppelin, but that's why we like them! Check em out at 94wysp.com. Now to the updates and mailbag.

A couple quick clarifications on the Nine Inch Mystery story from Thursday, which ended with a bit of humor about a cryptic message that reportedly appeared on the Nine Inch Nails site. First a quick recap so you know what is being discussed here. That story was taken from a Metal Underground report that stated: "The band's website was also updated yesterday with the message 'Two Weeks', creating speculation that the band may release yet another album soon." A reader emailed us and said that the message was actually posted last week. We couldn't find it on the site today to confirm that, but NIN did post a new video under the heading "Spend The Day With Us: Watch This Video 2500 Times". Gotta love Trent's humor. Some are reading into that video post that Trent will be signing all the deluxe editions of "Ghosts". But guessing at anything (even a half joking guess) can turn around and bite you in the rear. As we learned yesterday.

After the Metal Underground quote we added a bit of fun playing around with the mysterious nature of such an announcement when we said, "our guess is it has to do with the new Guns N' Roses album. Robin is in both groups after all. Maybe they'll team up for a tour? See what kind of rumors can start by these cryptic messages!" I was a bit shocked that some people took that seriously. It was a joke (like unimaginative idiots that take the names of rock stars for message board usernames and quote Seinfeld.) The posting should have made that clear with phrases like "our guess" and the dead giveaway, "See what kind of rumors can start by these cryptic messages!" It does look like Axl is working to release Chinese Democracy at last (if we take the recent statements into account, and the fact that he has signed with new powerhouse management.) But the mention here was a joke related to how cryptic messages can be taken way out of context when people try to guess what they mean. I thought the "our guess" and the bit about starting a rumor would make it obvious that it wasn't serious, but some GNR fans didn't pick up on that. Sorry guys, we're as excited about the new CD as anyone and can't wait for it to finally be in our greedy little hands, but it's really doubtful Trent and Co would announce it. On the other hand, Trent knows something we don't know, so we can have wild guesses all day long. People tend to read what they want to believe, not what is actually written. Maybe Trent knows that as well.

A quick update on the Late Night Aiken story from earlier this week. Jimmy Kimmel's publicist dropped us a line on Thursday to let us know that Clay Aiken's appearance has been moved to May 16th. While it means that Claymates will have to wait longer to see their hero interviewed on the show, on the positive side, this means that it's taking place on a Friday night so staying up late to catch it will be easier. Though it might make you a little groggy for those Sat morning cartoons.

Jack wrote in with this: "I love your site and read it everyday but why do you report on some many bands I never heard of?" - Answer: You've heard of them now! In all seriousness, we try and mix things up a little and offer a pretty broad range of coverage. There are plenty of mainstream music news outlets if that's the only thing you are after, but this site was started, in part, to expose our readers to all kinds of music- especially lesser known stuff you may not have heard of before or that is being ignored by the "mainstream" music media. You can skip over those stories and reviews or you can read them and maybe check them out for yourself. Who knows, maybe one of those bands you never heard just might be your future favorite band? It's been known to happen.

That's all, everyone have a great weekend. We'll see you on Monday! - messages of hate can be posted here for our enjoyment

Van Halen Helped Raise 1.5 Million for Charity
antiMusic reports: The Van Halen camp sent over this update: "We are here to listen to one of the greatest bands in history. It is my honor to introduce you to VAN HALEN!" These words came courtesy of golf legend Tiger Woods as he announced the band at Tiger Jam XI, a fundraising event April 19 at Mandalay Bay Events Center that helped raise more than $1.5 million for the Tiger Woods Foundation.

Seconds later, the trademark hard rock eruption that's VAN HALEN was in full swing. And for two hours, Eddie, Dave, Alex and Wolfgang kept the event's energy and vigor at maximum velocity.

Woods, a longtime VAN HALEN fan, selected the supergroup to headline the show. Although his recent knee surgery kept him from dancing the night away, Woods caught the performance alongside a star-studded audience. - more on this story

Ashlee Simpson Impregnated by Cheeseburger?
antiMusic reports: It was a pretty slow news day and we couldn't pass up on this piece of Hecklerspray humor: Even though most people wouldn't even give a soggy fart about Ashlee Simpson's unborn baby even if was 300 feet tall and had lasers for eyes, it hasn't stopped Ashlee Simpson from going on TV and being all like 'maybe I am, maybe I'm not' some more in the vain hope that all this pointless teasing will sell some more copies of her album.

Ashlee Simpson made an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Could Ellen finally uncover the truth about Ashlee Simpson's ovaries, or would it just be another lame excuse for Ashlee Simpson to try and whip up public speculation so she could get in more magazines than she already is? You have a guess. People reports:

When asked directly, "Are you or are you not pregnant?" Simpson demurred: "Well, that has been going on for quite a while. That is something that I choose personally not to discuss." She then skillfully changed the subject. "Do I look like I had 10 cheeseburgers or something?" she asked the audience, standing up to show her still-slim figure. "Because I don't think I do." - more on this story
