antiMusic reports: KISS had to play as a trio
last week after Paul Stanley had heart trouble. The masked rocker suffered
what is known as tachycardia where the heart beats at an unusually high
rate. In Stanley's case it was beating twice as fast as normal.
"My heart spontaneously jumped to 190 plus
beats per minute, where it stayed for over an hour necessitating paramedics
to start an IV and give me a shot to momentarily stop my heart and get
it into a normal pattern," Stanley wrote on his site. The American Heart
Assoc lists a normal "at rest" heart beat as between 60 and 80 beats per
minute.- more

antiMusic reports: The man that shot Kinks
frontman Ray Davies is off the hook after the singer failed to show up
for a court date. A second time Davies has failed to appear according to
the BBC. So instead of singing "you really got me" to authorities, Jerome
Barra is now a free man.
Barra was charged with armed robbery and
aggravated battery after shooting Davies in the leg in 2004. According
to reports, Davies was in New Orleans on vacation when two men snatched
his girlfriend's purse and the singer gave chase before Barra shot him
in the leg.
Davies told New Orleans' Times-Picayune
that he was unable to attend court because he was not given enough notice
by prosecutors.- more

antiMusic reports: Axl wasn't on hand but
the other members of the classic Guns N' Roses lineup did attend the 20th
anniversary party for their landmark debut "Appetite for Destruction,"
which took place at the Key Club in Hollywood on Saturday night.
Izzy Stradlin and Duff McKagan joined Steven
Adler's band (Adler's Appetite) during their set to perform "Mr. Brownstone"
and "Paradise City". There are some reports that Slash attended the event
but did not join the band on stage. We were supposed to attend the event
but due to unforeseen circumstance we were unable to so we can not give
you a first hand report of the reunion. But we're working on getting comment
from the band.
This was the reportedly the first time
that Stradlin, McKagan and Alder have performed together since Adler left
Guns N' Roses in 1990. Tracii Guns, the guns in Guns N' Roses, also performed
a set with his classic lineup of LA Guns. To mark the anniversary we have
posted a special edition of our classics series.- You
can read that here.

antiMusic reports: The Offspring have officially
parted ways with drummer Atom Willard. The veteran OC punks have recruited
former Alkaline Trio, Face To Face, Saves the Day member Pete Parada to
take his place, according to a post on their official website.
Pete Parada will make his debut with the
band when they hit Japan for the Summer Sonic festival on August 11, 12
and 14th. The news of the lineup change comes after a false start earlier
this year when it was widely reported that Atom had left the group, only
to be contradicted with reports that he was still very much a part the
Offspring. There will be life after the Offspring for Atom as he'll reportedly
focus all of his energy on his other band, Angels and Airwaves. But remains
a friend of the band, according to their website.
Neither Parada or Willard will appear on
the forthcoming Offspring album. According to their website Josh Freese
(NIN, Vandals, Devo) has recorded all the drum tracks for the new record-

antiMusic reports: Once a trendsetting himself,
Foo Fighers frontman Dave Grohl is taking aim at the "emo" craze which
is currently the darling of the major record labels A&R people. Grohl
pokes fun at the genre in a song on the group's new album, "Echoes, Silence,
Patience and Grace". Grohl said long before bands like My Chemical Romance,
Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco and Funeral For A Friend were the soundtrack
for depressed teenage girls, he witnessed the birth of the "emotional rock"
genre back in the 80s.
"I have a funny relationship with emo,"
Grohl tells MTV.com. "I'm from Washington D.C., and in the mid-'80s, the
hardcore scene changed from what it was - Bad Brains and Minor Threat and
the Dead Kennedys and MDC - to a bunch of new bands like Rites of Spring
and Embrace, (both of) which Ian MACKaye was the singer for. Everyone started
labeling it 'emo-core'. I'd never heard anything like it, and it was a
really emotional experience. But in D.C., we all hated that 'emo-core'
tag."
Grohl pokes fun at the current state of
the genre with the song "Cheer Up Boys (Your Make-Up Is Running)" on the
new Foo Fighers new CD. He explains, "The title has nothing to do with
the song - it's placed right in the middle of the record, where there's
a lot of dark stuff. It's a pretty heavy record. We have a couple bummer
tunes. I felt the album needed something to sit in the centre and balance
it. So we had this lighthearted song, and I called it 'Cheer Up Boys (Your
Make-Up Is Running)' because it seemed like a little ray of hope in the
middle of all this despair."
That isn't the only surprise for Foo fans
on the new CD. - Read

antiMusic reports: Remember that supposed
Fugazi reunion that was supposed to take place at Fort Reno in Washington,
DC on Monday, September 3, 2007? The one we told you we couldn't confirm
and the venue website had no mention of despite a Wikipedia entry announcement?
Guess what? It's total and complete BS as we and you probably suspected.
In fact, the site that we mentioned had
an article that may have inspired the rumor (that article was about a previous
show at the venue featuring members of the band) heard about the new reunion
rumor and got to the bottom of it.
DCist contacted a representative for the
venue where this reunion was supposedly going to take place and she emailed
them back, " IT IS A HOAX. apparently it was up on wikipedia this morning
and my brother took it down but its been popping up on folks' blogs all
day."- Read
the DCist story and find out what they suspect started the rumor.

AP reports: Music legend Ike Turner said he
holds nothing against St. Louis' mayor for a decision not to issue a City
Hall proclamation in his honor.
Mayor Francis Slay has turned down a request
from organizers of the Big Muddy Blues Festival to make Sept. 2 "Ike Turner
Day." Turner, 75, is scheduled to perform that day at the blues festival
in St. Louis.
Turner says he never asked for the honor.
He notes he already has a star on the St. Louis Walk of Fame. [Despite
the wife beating issue with Tina Turner, Ike is credited with what many
consider the first rock n' roll song, "Rocket 88"]
