antiMusic reports: This week we have a real
treat for you. One of the best songwriting bands of this generation, Collective
Soul, is releasing their new album 'Afterwords' this week and we asked
lead guitarist Joel Kosche to select his five favorite tracks from the
CD and tell us a little bit about each one. (Ed checks in on a few tracks
too!). We kick things off with "You're All That I Know".
Joel says of the track, "I think this song
showcases some real maturity in Ed's songwriting and in the Collective
Soul sound. A great chorus hook and interesting guitar parts over some
cool changes. I got to sing background vocals on that one as well. I also
replaced what was once a clarinet solo with a guitar solo. Now that's way
it's supposed to be!"
And here is Ed's take on the song: "That's
basically about my wife. We've been married a little over a year. She's
a wonderful woman. She changed my outlook on life and it's my way of telling
her she's the one. 'You're all that I know when the sun goes down/ You're
all that I know when the sun comes rising like that devil in me.'"
You can pick up 'Afterwords' at Target
stores and iTunes starting tomorrow , plus see them on The Tonight Show
with Jay Leno on Friday (August 31). You can preview the entire CD-

antiMusic reports: When police find 200 grams
of a suspected drug and dead dogs when searching an entertainer's home
you might think this is a report about Pete Doherty but it's not. We're
talking about rapper DMX who was the prime suspect as Maricopa County sheriffs
raided his home on Friday.
Sheriff's deputies were investigating animal
cruelty allegations when they searched DMX's Arizona residence where they
discovered 200 grams of a suspected illegal narcotic, a variety of assault-style
weapons and the bodies of three dogs.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio says that the drugs
are being tested and that no charges have been filed yet. He was called
out to investigate allegations that DMX has not been properly feeding and
watering his pet pit bulls, according to AP. DMX's attorney says that the
dogs were left in the care of a caretaker. - more

antiMusic reports: Hit us in the head with
a bottle once, shame on you. Hit us in the head with a bottle twice, maybe
you are trying to tell us something? That may be running through the minds
of Panic! At The Disco as they once again were tagged by a bottle tossed
from the crowd at the Reading Festival.
The band's frontman was actually knocked
out last year at the festival when a fan hit a bullseye with a bottle.
This year it was the bassplayer's turn to get clocked in the head. The
band took the stage knowing what was to come and were greeted with a barrage
of bottles from the crowd, according to NME. With no direct hits the band
felt they were in the clear. "Alright, this is going better than last year,"
guitarist Ryan Ross joked. "We made it through the first one."
A bit of temping fate on his part as the
band broke into the song 'Lying Is The Most Fun A Girl Can Have Without
Taking Her Clothes' someone tossed a bottle at the stage and connected
with bassist Jon Walker's head.

antiMusic reports: In what has to be one of
the most unexpected but coolest concert pairings in recent memory, Bob
Dylan is teaming up with Elvis Costello for a fall tour. Dylan's website
announced the tour as featuring Bob Dylan and his Band with Elvis Costello
(solo) and Amos Lee and at press time it looks like the tour will hit the
East Coast late next month for 13-date outing.
Dylan just wrapped up his Australia and
New Zealand tour last night and is heading to Texas for the Austin City
Limits festival September 16. From there he'll head to Nashville for two
concerts on the 19th and 20th with Amos Lee providing support. Then the
East Coast run with Elvis Costello will begin two days later in Duluth
Georgia and run through Rocktober 9th when it concludes in Rochester, New
York.
Dylan is also offering his fans VIP packages
for the tour.- more

antiMusic reports: It's a good thing that
boys don't cry because The Cure delivered bad news to North American fans
on Friday when they announced that their tour that was set to kick off
next month has been pushed back until next spring so the band can remain
in the studio.
The new dates will take place in April
and May of next year instead of September and October as originally expected
but fans that hold tickets to the original dates are told to hold on to
them as they will be valid at the new dates.
This move came as the band has been working
hard to finish their new studio album and decided that they needed to put
that to bed before heading out on tour. The silver-lining for fans is that
the new dates will most likely contain material from the forthcoming double
album.- not
all of their shows have been pushed back

antiMusic reports: When you create what you
try to pass off as "music" by "sampling" real music created by real musicians
are you in a position of calling someone else a thief for doing the same
damn thing? That the basis for this lil' bit of irony. One rapper is accusing
another rapper of stealing the idea of using "borrowed" soul song samples.
A bit like ripping off a candy bar from someone that shoplifted it. Only
hip-hop.
Major label newcomer Mims is up in arms
with Kanye West, accusing the egomaniac rapper of stealing his hip-hop
sound which is basically stealing real musician's old work, speeding it
up, turning on a drum machine and talking sh*t over it. But Mims claims
he stole soul samples and speeded them up long before Kanye made major
cash by stealing soul samples and speeded them up and talking nonsense
over them.
Mims claims that he introduced this formula
with his debut album. "I recorded my album five years ago so I did it first,"
the indignant rapper said- but
did he steal it from Jay-Z?

antiMusic reports: Bright Eyes has set some
extensive North American tour plans for this fall which will see them cover
the entire continent from three stops in Alaska to a one night stand in
Mexico City. The bulk of the dates cover the continental US but Canadians
will get a handful of chances to see them.
The fun will kick off on September 13th
with a stop in Denver. From there they will hit Boise, Spokane and Olympia
Washington before trekking north to Alaska for a show on the 18th at the
University of Alaska in Fairbanks and then a two night stand at the University's
campus in Anchorage on the 19th and 20th. They'll then fly back stateside
with two special shows planned including the Mexico City one off and according
to Filter a very special orchestra show at the Hollywood Bowl on September
29th.
They'll take a break after the date in
Mexico before headlining back on the road beginning with a show in Chicago
on October 19th, which kicks off the Midwest run of the tour. They'll venture
briefly into Canada for three shows set to hit Edmonton, Calgary, and Winnipeg
before attacking the eastern U.S. and wrapping the whole ambitious effort
up with a proper conclusion at the famed Radio City Music Hall on November
19th. - dates

antiMusic reports: Queens of The Stone Age
returned to the road this past weekend and plan to stay out until late
Rocktober on what they have cleverly dubbed the "QOTSA fall tour". This
go around they'll be hitting some of towns they missed on their recent
tour.
This week the band is making a run through
Canada which concludes on the 1st and they'll take a quick break before
heading back on the road on September 14th with a performance at Austin
City Limits Festival followed by the kick off the headlining tour the next
night that will run through October 29th where they'll conclude the tour
in Los Angeles. - support

antiMusic reports: We start off with a quick
Van Halen update for those that missed our weekend Day in Rock recap. The
band has moved their Uniondale, NY date. They'll now invade that venue
on Thursday, November 8th. Still no word on when tickets will go on sale
but we're sure they'll let us know and we'll pass the info along to you.
Eleven Seven Music apparently (and not
surprisingly) screwed the pooch on the last Everclear album 'Welcome to
the Drama Club' and as such Art Alexakis has decided that he wants to try
his luck with a better label and see if they can get it right. According
to Tunelab, Art is currently in writing mode for an album that he hopes
to release next summer. No word on which label will release the effort.
Not a week can not go by without a story
about drug-addled Pete Doherty. Apparently the far more famous for his
drug addiction than his music star has checked into the $600-per-day Clouds
House rehab facility, near Salisbury, Wiltshire. This according to what
a source has told People magazine. Stay tuned later in the week for news
on his arrest following leaving said facility. That's if he stays true
to form.
Marky Mark Chavez of Adema fame is taking
a page from Crazy Town's Shifty Shellshock playbook and looking to find
solo success following the downfall of the crapmetal genre that gave them
their break and then left them behind when the trend died. While his former
band is toiling away with a new release and singer, trying to remain relevant
in the age of emo, Chavez is plotting his comeback with a new solo album
that will be released sometime early next year by Thru The Roof Records.
Speaking of stars that are well past their
fifteen minutes of fame. It looks Doritos couldn't find a fitting current
star to offer up as their new pitchperson so they have signed up Missy
Elliot. Contact Music reports that Missy will be "the new face" of the
cheesy chips company. On the bright side, at least she does appear to use
the product she is endorsing and it gives her something to do.

antiMusic reports: When Dire Straits asked
"See the little faggot with the earring and the makeup / Yeah buddy thats
his own hair" in their hit song 'Money for Nothing,' they were talking
about 80's hairpray-pink-spandex rockers Motley Crue.
Apparently members of Dire Straits were
in a store and saw a wall of televisions displaying a Motley Crue video
and according to Contact Music that inspired them to pen the hit tune that
made light of the empty fame in the MTV age with lines like "That aint
workin / thats the way you do it / Get your money for nothin get your chicks
for free".
Of course, the video for the track became
a huge hit on the music channel. Being the deep thinker that he is, Nikki
Sixx is reportedly flattered by the off-hand tribute. At least the line
"bangin on the bongoes like a chimpanzee" makes total sense now.

antiMusic reports: As we reported last week
Morrissey will be playing two special strings of dates in Los Angeles and
New York as part of his North American tour wrap-up. Now word comes that
extra devoted fans that want to attend all of the shows at each venue will
be offered the chance to buy a "season pass".
The Moz plans to play a 10 night stand
at Palladium in Los Angeles beginning October 1st and running through the
13th. Fans wanting to see all ten performances are being offered a "season
pass" which will give them early entrance to the venue and also save them
money by only charging for 9 shows and reducing the overpriced service
charges.
New Yorkers are getting a similar deal
for Moz's run at the Hammerstein Ballroom from Oct 22nd - 28th. For about
$200 bucks a pass, you'll get tickets and early admission to all five shows
at that venue.
The season passes go on sale today (8/27)-

PR reports: Singer-songwriter Josh Kelley
will team up with the Pat McGee Band with this fall. From September 15th
through November 10th, Kelley and PMB will co-headline, hitting over 40
major US cities across the country.
Having been on tour in the US over the
past year promoting his last album "Just Say the Word" (released October
2006), Josh Kelley jumped right back in the studio to start recording and
producing his fourth album "Special Company." As with his last album, "Just
Say the Word," he will release "Special Company" on his own label, DNK
Records, which operates out of the Wilspro Management offices in New York
City. Kelley plans to release the album in late 2007/early 2008. Kelley
is also producing and starring in his own documentary entitled "Making
the Modern Day Label" which he plans to make into a TV reality show about
making and breaking new artists on an indie label.- more

antiMusic reports: Remember Matchbox Twenty?
If not the band is releasing a new "greatest hits" package in Rocktober
to remind you of who they are and were. And to make it worth a purchase
for diehard fans that already have all of the albums, they are including
brand new tracks as an enticement.
The double disc set entitled, 'Exile on
Mainstream,' (obviously inspired by the Stones) will hit stores on October
2nd and will feature six new songs on the first disc and almost a dozen
of the band's past hits on the second disc.
The band is reportedly planning to hit
the road in support of the effort but dates have yet to be announce, however
you can catch them on TV promoting the CD.- TV

DiR reports: One year removed from Gob Iron,
a major label project with Jay Farrar of Son Volt and Uncle Tupelo fame,
Anders Parker is hitting the road as a solo act again. His two-month tour
begins this week in Buffalo. antiMusic will join him the next night in
Rochester for a sit down before taking in the live show.
Many of the venues are intimate; opportunity
for music lovers to see an artist who has been loved by critics for over
a decade without the space between. Parker's date in Portland will be accompanied
by the release of a live bootleg of a 2005 show, '14th and Division.'
"I went through Portland, Oregon a couple
of years ago on tour and played a house party," Parker says of the release.
"Someone taped the show and that tape is now being released. Entitled '14th
& Division' it will be released by Bladen County Records. The fine
folks over at BCR had it mastered and Portland artist Guy Burwell created
a fine cover. Release date is September 7. I'll have copies to sell on
the road after that date. Eventually it'll be for sale on the website and
