antiMusic reports: Rejoice Tonic fans! You
Wanted More and former Tonic frontman Emerson Hart is here to give it to
you. We're celebrating the release of Emerson's new solo CD, 'Cigarettes
and Gasoline,' this week and have asked him to pick his favorite five songs
from the CD and tell us a little bit about each one. We conclude today
with "If You're Gonna Leave" and "Green Hills Race for California". Here
is Emerson:
"If You're Gonna Leave" - This might be
the most direct lyric on the record. It does not relay any mystery. Love
works or it doesn't.
"Green Hills Race for California" - I loved
recording this song. The song forced me to keep it simple and it let me
know it could not be recorded any other way. You have to listen to what
the song wants you to do. It will never steer you wrong.-

antiMusic reports: It looks like that after
five years R.Kelly will finally stand trial on child pornography charges.
Chicago Judge Vincent Gaughan has set a September 17th date for the trial
to start, with jury selection beginning on that day.
Kelly stands accused of recording sexual
acts with an underage girl. Prosecutors issued a 14 count child pornography
indictment against the R&B singer, according to the BBC. If convicted
he could spend 15 years in prison. Kelly pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Was she or wasn't she underage? Is that
even Kelly in the tape? Those are some of the questions that both sides
hope to answer during the trial.- more

DiR reports: Here are some excerpts from an
interesting article at Jam!: Victor Willis, the troubled ex-frontman for
the Village People, is mounting a comeback with a tell-all book detailing
his frustration with his flamboyant gay bandmates and why they ultimately
caused him to leave the group in the early '80s. Willis, best-known for
portraying the cop and the naval admiral in the '70s disco group, also
reveals "Y.M.C.A." was written in Vancouver and was never meant to refer
to gay cruising, says his publicist Alice Wolf.
As the main lyricist and vocalist, Willis
was responsible for classics including "In the Navy," "Macho Man" and "Go
West," but was appalled by the homosexual subtext they took on, fearing
that catering to a "niche" market would doom the group to failure, she
says.
But when a deal to promote the U.S. navy
with the song "In the Navy" collapsed in 1979, Willis blamed the band's
gay image for spoiling a huge opportunity, says Wolf. He quit in frustration
in 1980, seeking a solo career that never materialized.-
It's
an pretty in-depth article that also really goes into the whole Y.M.C.A.
thing, you can read it all here

antiMusic reports: Kevin Lyman have published
an open letter to Sharon Osbourne following their recent conversation about
Ozzfest, according to Punkbands. Lyman made headlines last week when he
was quoted in newspaper article slamming Ozzfest. Here is the text of the
open letter: Dear Sharon, Good speaking with you just now. Per our discussion,
I wanted to apologize if any of my comments quoted in the Kansas Star News
were taken out of context or based on misinformation I was given. It was
not my intent to discredit Ozzy or your family in any way.
If Ozzy is in fact working for expenses
only, then I was wrong in saying he was out for one more paycheck. I'll
be the first to say I should not bother myself with other tours and keep
my nose in my own projects as they have been keeping me busy enough as
it is. For that, I'm sorry- more

Gigwise reports: Elton John has launched a
scathing attack on the Internet, saying it is preventing people from interacting
properly in the real world. The aging singer believes, in his own clichéd
words, that people should get back on the streets and quit blogging.
He ranted: "The internet has stopped people
from going out and being with each other, creating stuff. Instead they
sit at home and make their own records, which is sometimes OK but it doesn't
bode well for long-term artistic vision. It's just a means to an end.
"We're talking about things that are going
to change the world and change the way people listen to music and that's
not going to happen with people blogging on the internet. I mean, get out
there - communicate. Hopefully the next movement in music will tear down
the internet. [yup you sure can't communicate online and do things like
tell thousands of people at once that Elton's last album wasn't nearly
as good as his previous work. It's better to tell four people on the street
that.]- more

Blabbermouth reports: GODSMACK is currently
on a North American tour that comes to a close later this month, but fans
might have one more chance to see the group this year. Singer Sully Erna
told The Pulse of Radio that the band is thinking of doing some special
shows this fall to commemorate its 10th anniversary.
"We may possibly run in November, a small
three- or four-week tour doing the acoustic show again," he said. "Hopefully
before the holidays hit, we're gonna release a greatest hits record for
our 10th year anniversary, accompanied by a live acoustic show that we
filmed in Las Vegas. It's really, really filmed well and sounds great,
so that's kind of like what we're trying to accomplish in the immediate
future."
GODSMACK will utilize 19 cameras to film
its show next Tuesday (August 7) at the Sturgis Bike Rally in Sturgis,
South Dakota for a live DVD. Singer Sully Erna commented in a press release-

Blabbermouth reports: According to the New
York Post, former MARILYN MANSON keyboardist/drummer Stephen "Pogo" Bier
is filing a lawsuit in Los Angeles today against Manson charging that instead
of paying Bier for his services, the singer squandered his band's earnings
on "sick and disturbing purchases of Nazi memorabilia and taxidermy (including
the skeleton of a young Chinese girl)."
Bier accuses the shock rocker and his "musketeers"
(his business manager, lawyer and the band's manager) of assisting Manson
"in filching millions of dollars the band made over the years."-
