(antiMusic) It looks like that after five years R.Kelly will finally stand trial on child pornography charges. Chicago Judge Vincent Gaughan has set a September 17th date for the trial to start, with jury selection beginning on that day.Kelly stands accused of recording sexual acts with an underage girl. Prosecutors issued a 14 count child pornography indictment against the R&B singer, according to the BBC. If convicted he could spend 15 years in prison. Kelly pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The R&B singer avoided a trial in Florida in 2004 after a judge dropped all charges saying that the evidence seized from Kelly's home were not obtained legally by investigators.
Was she or wasn't she underage? Is that even Kelly in the tape? Those are some of the questions that both sides hope to answer during the trial. The BBC says that prosecutors believe that the girl in the illegal tape may have been as young as 13 at the time of the taping. Kelly's attorneys question that age and also question if Kelly is actually on the now famous video tape.
Will the Sept 17th date hold firm or will legal maneuvering delay the trial even further? We will have to wait and see.
