Chris Brown Hit-and-Run Case Dismissed

A judge dismissed the hit-and-run case against controversial entertainer Chris Brown on Thursday over the strong objections of the prosecutors, according to TMZ.

Brown and the alleged victim reportedly came to a civil compromise that did not involve money since there was only minor damage to her vehicle, and the alleged victim asked the judge to dismiss the case.

The L.A. City Attorney objected to the dismissal, according to TMZ, and argued to the judge that Brown was very aggressive toward the victim after the accident, using profanity towards her."

They report that the city attorney also argued that Brown was on felony probation and therefore his alleged misconduct of leaving the scene without providing the other driver with his California driver's license was all the more serious.

However, the judge decided to dismiss the case despite the objections. Brown's attorney, Mark Geragos spoke to TMZ after the decision and told them, "The case never should have been filed in the first place. It's unfortunate he was being prosecuted for who he is rather than what he's done." Watch video of the interview here.

Justin Timberlake To Perform at MTV VMAs and Receive Vanguard Award

(Radio.com) Justin Timberlake has been added to the star-studded performance roster for this year's MTV Video Music Awards, alongside previously announced acts Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Robin Thicke and according to Stephen Colbert, Daft Punk. The show is scheduled for August 25 at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.

MTV News also reports that Timberlake will be honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award in recognition of his history of memorable music videos, including "Rock Your Body," "SexyBack" and "Mirrors," the latter being nominated for this year's Video of the Year (he's up for six Moonmen this year, tied with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis for the most 2013 nods).

Other artists to receive the award in previous years include Britney Spears, the Beastie Boys and Duran Duran. Timberlake's videos (solo and with N'SYNC) have earned the singer a combined 14 VMAs, second only to Madonna.

Timberlake, who wraps up his Legends of the Summer Tour with Jay Z this week in Miami, took to Instagram this week (August 14) to painstakingly reveal the track list for The 20/20 Experience – 2 of 2, due for release Sept. 30. more on this story

Calvin Harris Tops Tiesto As Biggest DJ

(Radio.com) Last August, in response to the pervasive explosion of EDM in America, Forbes published its first annual World's Highest Paid DJs list. It was topped by Dutch DJ Tiesto, who generated a cool $22 million dollars.

Now Forbes has revealed their list of the globe's top-earning DJs for 2013, with Calvin Harris coming out of nowhere to earn the top spot, raking in a staggering $46 million over the past 12 months. It's worth noting that the Scottish DJ, best known for his pop collaborations, didn't even make the list in 2012.

"The rise of dance music has been astronomical in the last three years and I happened to be in the right place at the right time," Harris told Forbes.

Calling Harris simply a DJ could be somewhat misleading, as he earned a good chunk of his fortune for producing and featuring on pop hits for Rihanna ("We Found Love") and Ellie Goulding ("I Need Your Love"). His 2012 solo album, 18 Months, boasted a string of hit singles led by the worldwide hit "Feel So Close," which climbed as high as No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

"I like to think I don't have an ego [that's] like you need to be number one–the best, the DJ of all time," Harris explained of his lofty goals. "I want to be the number one songwriter-producer guy of all time."

Tiesto, who topped last year's list at $22 million, generated quite the pay raise this year, pulling in $32 million to claim the No. 2 spot on this year's list.

All of the top DJs this year made considerably more money than they did last year. David Guetta, who was No. 4 last year with $13.5 million, definitely moved into a higher tax bracket in 2013 by almost tripling his earnings with $30 million to step up to No. 3. more on this story

Cher Talks Leaked Lady Gaga Duet

(Radio.com) It's hard to believe Lady Gaga asked Cher to hold her meat purse at the 2010 VMAs, even harder to believe that the interaction led to a duet, which has been leaked.

Two years ago, Cher and Gaga recorded "The Greatest Thing," a song that Gaga and producer RedOne had been playing with in the studio for a couple years. Originally slated for release in September 2011, the song never saw the light of day. Back in June of this year, Cher offered a quick explanation regarding "The Greatest Thing" in a fan reply on Twitter. "It's done & she doesn't like it, or want it to come out," Cher wrote at the time (and has since deleted). "She's an artist, it's up to her. I'm disappointed 2."

Now "The Greatest Thing" has leaked, since that seems to be Gaga's luck this week. This week's leak set Cher off on Twitter, mostly over the fact that it's the "wrong" version of "The Greatest Thing." Admittedly, the music does sound a little dated, a piano line and synthesized harps fighting for the focus over a dance beat and distorted vocal effects in the background. Basically, it sounds more Cher than Gaga in its particular brand of over-the-top gay dance club banger.

She tweeted, "Disappointed( Ive Sat on fkng song 4 over a yr )NOW SOME A**HOLE LEAKS WRONG VERSION ! GaGa's SINGLE IS GREAT, & THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS"

When Radio.com sat down with Cher in late June, she mentioned that "The Greatest Thing" needed updating musically, and that's part of why it wasn't released.

"That's a weird one, but also it's the first one I actually recorded [getting back into the studio to make Closer To The Truth]," Cher told Radio.com. "I was very excited about it, and I think the music needed to be updated because we did it two years ago. I think maybe that was a problem too, but she sounds great on it."

Still, it was Gaga's call to not release the song. When asked if she was disappointed by Gaga's decision, Cher replied, "Oh God yeah!" more on this story

Kendrick Lamar Talks New Music and Black Hippy

(Radio.com) Before Kendrick Lamar was waging a war on hip-hop with his verse on Big Sean's track "Control (HOF)," he was just looking for a little time off.

Backstage before his Lollapalooza debut a couple weeks back, Lamar told Radio.com that his non-stop touring schedule, which includes 19 festivals, was starting to weigh on him. "A little time off would be nice. Two days at least," he said with a smile.

But for anyone who saw Lamar's performance at the Chicago festival, which featured a live band and a crowd-surfing fan in a wheelchair, the rapper didn't seem to be letting his jam-packed schedule get in the way of putting on a good show.

All this time on the road though has made it hard for Lamar to get back into the studio — something he addressed in our interview. He also revealed what fans can expect next from his hip-hop collective Black Hippy and what he really thinks about all those unauthorized "Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe" t-shirts.

Radio.com: In a Rolling Stone profile from last year, you made a comment that you might not release a follow-up to 2012's good kid, m.A.A.d. city. Could you explain what you meant by that?

Kendrick Lamar: I never quite know when I'm going to get back in that studio, you know? It could be tomorrow. It could be a year. It could be two years. It could be tonight. When it comes it will come. That was me saying, 'I don't know when I will get back in there.'

Are you currently writing new music?

Lamar: Yes, I write every day. That's the catch.

Your two studio albums, 2011's Section.180 & good kid, m.A.A.d city, were concept records. Are the songs you've written keeping with that same trend?

Lamar: I don't know. I'd like to do something new, something a little bit different every album. When I get back in [the studio], I think I'll figure it out. But most likely, I wont' stray away too far.

Everyone's interested to know the plan for Black Hippy. Is there a schedule in place?

Lamar: I think the schedule's really making sure Schoolboy Q is solidified as an artist of his own caliber. Then after that we might go full service with it. That will be the plan, as soon as we get it off the ground with Q. Read the rest of the interview here.

Nicki Minaj Models Her Kmart Clothing Line Online

(Radio.com) Back in June, Nicki Minaj released the first look of her new clothing line for Kmart, which is expected in stores this fall. Yesterday (August 14), we got to see the rapper herself modeling some of the looks, in three pics from her Instagram.

Minaj claimed that she'd been wearing this sweatpants look in the studio, and revealed that the collection is comprised mostly of matching tops and bottoms (as seen above) and form-fitting "freakum dresses."

As Minaj fans would expect, the collection seems to be full of graphic prints and form-fitting designs, much like her own styling. Also, in a video Minaj meet with the K-Mart design team and explain to them that they're making "freakum dresses." Watch that and see the photos here.

Avril Lavigne Teases Rock N Roll Video

(popmusiclife) Avril Lavigne is sharing some previews of the forthcoming video for her new single, "Rock N Roll". The full clip will premiere August 20, while the single will be released August 27.

Lavigne filmed the video recently, which also stars Danica McKellar (The Wonder Years) in full commando gear. "My partner in crime @danicamckellar on the set today of my music video for #ROCKNROLL," tweeted Lavigne, followed later by "thank you @danicamckellar for acting in my video. You are beautiful and so sweet. We kicked butt today! #ROCKNROLL."

For her part, McKellar enjoyed the shoot, tweeting, "Just had the best time shooting @AvrilLavigne's new video. And she is so sweet and fun! Made me feel like a rock star." Check out the tease clip here.

Jason Derulo Promises Honest and Emotional Album

(Radio.com) It's all happening for Jason Derulo. The 23-year-old singer is gearing up for the release of his new album, Tattoos, on September 24. After the success of lead single "The Other Side" — the No. 2 most added song of all time at Top 40 radio — Derulo now has a new UK single "Talk Dirty" featuring 2 Chainz, which will be featured on the LP alongside collabs with The Game, and girlfriend Jordin Sparks.

Radio.com sat down with Derulo to get the inside scoop of what fans can expect from his new release. He was rather forthcoming with how forthcoming his album was. "I'm very, very honest on this album," he told Radio.com. "I'm very open. Some songs on the album are difficult to listen to at times. There is a very emotional part of the album."

After a neck injury that forced him to take a break from music, Derulo is thankful for the success of "The Other Side." "Especially after the rough year that I had, to have this comeback was really crazy. To hear my stuff on the radio was like hearing my stuff on the radio for the first time all over again," he confessed. "Same butterflies, same nerves. I think that's the human element of this whole thing. Having that feeling keeps me grounded, keeps me humble and keeps me pushing further."

Derulo is pushing himself further on his forthcoming release. He had written over 300 songs and had to narrow them down to 12, a process that was difficult. "I wanted to be sure that the album was a roller coaster ride, that every single song was totally different from the last," he explained. "My first album was written when I was 19-years-old. I wanted to be sure this album was far different from that one, to make sure that the growth was present. I'm 23 now. I really wanted this album to be a direct representation of who I am. I didn't want to hide anything. This album, I wanted to tell a story." He also made a surprising revelation.

The Smiths Meet Charlie Brown On New Tumblr

(Radio.com) A new Tumblr called This Charming Charlie shows what it would be like if Morrissey wrote the Peanuts comic strip instead of Charles M. Schulz.

Using lyrics from The Smiths songs like "How Soon Is Now," "Sheila Take A Bow," "Stop Me If You Think That You've Heard This One Before," and "Big Mouth Strikes Again," Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts gang appears even more downtrodden than usual.

In one strip, Charlie Brown lays in bed thinking, "Last night I dreamt that somebody loved me," quoting the 1987 song from The Smiths album, Strangeways, Here We Come.

Little Green Cars Frustrated With Mumford & Sons Comparisons

(Radio.com) Little Green Cars are used to being compared to Glassnote labelmates Mumford & Sons. But while they respect the band, both frontman Stevie Appleby and guitarist Adam O'Regan say the reference is frustrating.

"It gets a little annoying especially because we don't think we're anything like Mumford & Sons," O'Regan told Radio.com backstage at Lollapalooza. "They go, 'Oh, they have vocal harmony.' And the first thing that comes in their head is, 'Oh they're like Mumford & Sons.' I think as time goes on people will see we're really nothing like them."

The band hopes people will finally see that they are nothing like Mumford or Of Monsters and Men or the Lumineers or Florence and the Machine or any other band they've have been compared to since releasing their debut, Absolute Zero, back in March.

The Dublin-based quintet got their start in 2008 in a bungalow in Appleby's parents' backyard with the goal to win a battle of the bands competition. Though the group lost, the failure cemented their decision to continue to pursue music.

They produced a handful of demos which helped raise their profile and earn them a spot on a tour with Jake Bugg. It also earned them a slot on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, an experience the band is still in awe of.

"It's all a bit of a blur actually. We're all big Jimmy Fallon fans," O'Regan admitted. "Growing up in Ireland, and watching that from a TV screen all the way across the water, it's surreal when you finally get there at NBC studios and going down the hallway and seeing all The Roots' suits hanging up on the railing. It was so nerve-wracking but it was amazing. And also over in a flash."

Little Green Cars' Absolute Zero has been hailed as the perfect cure to a broken heart. It's something Appleby says the band certainly didn't do on purpose, but makes sense. more on this story

Chance The Rapper Mixtape Sells Over 100 Copies Despite Being Free

(Radio.com) Chance The Rapper, an unsigned 20-year-old breakout rapper from Chicago, has been on the Billboard charts but hasn't sold a single record. Well, he hasn't sold a single record.

In the week ending on July 7, Chance's excellent and totally free mixtape Acid Rap debuted at No. 63 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, having sold over 1,000 copies. How is totally free album "selling"?

Initially, the album was listed digitally, and erroneously, listed on iTunes and Amazon. Once Chance's management was made aware of this, they were removed. However, Billboard reports that a company called "Mtc" is still selling Acid Rap for $14.71, even though the mixtape has been free to download on Chance The Rapper's website since April 30.

"I've never heard of Mtc, so this has taken us by surprise," Chance's manager Patrick Corcoran told Billboard. "But when I first saw it I showed Chance, and his lawyers are trying to stop it."

Missy Elliott To Join K-Pop Star G-Dragon at Upcoming Event

(Radio.com) Missy Elliott is the latest addition to KCON 2013, the K-Pop convention held in Los Angeles August 24 and 25. Elliott will take the stage on the 25th for a performance that will be filmed for South Korean TRL-type show, M! Countdown.

Billboard reports that Elliott will likely join K-Pop sensation G-Dragon, leader of the boy band BIGBANG, for a new song. In June, G-Dragon's label announced that the Elliott would feature on the K-Pop star's upcoming solo album, due out August 30. The track names that will feature "Chugalug" and "NiLiria."

While we're still waiting for Elliott's own 2013 album Block Party, it has been confirmed that Elliott will also be guesting on the new Faith Evans album, as well as a rumored appearance on Beyoncé's now-delayed fifth studio album.

Modern Family's Sofia Vergara May Have 'Tiny' Wedding

(Extra) "Extra's" Mario Lopez joined the cast of "Modern Family" for a special Emmy event, where he talked to Sofia Vergara about her upcoming wedding to fiancé Nick Loeb.

The Emmy nominated actress and her fiance Nick Loeb vacationed in Greece this summer, but Sofia admitting she hasn't started planning their wedding.

"I did such a big party for my 40th birthday that now either I do something more or I do something even better then that because it was like all my family, it was a hundred and something people… I can't do something in the middle or the same."
