Cro-Mags founder and former bassist Harley Flanagan is no longer facing assault and weapons charges stemming from the backstage fight at the CBGB festival with the current members of the band. The fight allegedly took place in July and Flanagan has appeared in court three times on "four second degree felony assault charges and weapons possession, each resulting in an adjournment," according to New York Natives who also spoke with Flanagan about the end of the case.
"I didn't see how it could make sense that one person could attack a room full of people," Flanagan told them in a video interview. "It didn't make sense then and it makes no sense now, cause it just didn't happen and that's basically why I'm getting off today is because they had a lot people making statements then saying that I did this and I did that, but it all started falling apart because they were all giving conflicting statements."
Here is a portion of our original report about the arrest: The Cro-Mags were set to perform at Webster Hall in New York as part of the CBGB music festival. Flanagan reportedly went backstage and allegedly cut the band's current bass player Michael "The Gook" Couls in the arm and stomach with a hunting knife and slashed William Berario (whom the New York Post reports is a member of the band) above his eye and bit him on the cheek, according to the Post.
Police shut the event down after the altercation and both members of the band were taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment of their wounds. Flanagan, who reportedly suffered a broken leg while be subdued by security, was also treated at the hospital. Watch the interview with Flanagan here.
