Puddle of Mudd's Wes Scantlin Arrested For Felony Vandalism
(Radio.com) Puddle of Mudd frontman Wes Scantlin has done it again. The rocker, famous for such songs as 2002 hit "She Hates Me," has been arrested multiple times over the past few years for a litany of offenses ranging from domestic abuse to cocaine possession.

Yesterday (July 24), Scantlin again found himself on the wrong side of the law, this time after the 41-year-old had it out with a neighbor, defacing the neighbor's property in the process.

Scantlin reportedly revved up a buzz saw and picked up a sledgehammer to have at a concrete wall the singer claims was built on his property.

Sgt. Albert Gonzalez of the LAPD confirmed to Radio.com that Scantlin was indeed booked into the Hollywood Community Police Department on the charge of felony vandalism. However

Megadeth's Dave Mustaine Fears 'Time Is Short'
(Classic Rock) Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine is already writing a follow-up to new album Super Collider after the death of Slayer's Jeff Hanneman convinced him his time might be running out.

Super Collider was only released last month, but the band have already booked studio time to get to work on what will be their fifteenth studio album.

"We're planning our next time to start demoing our next record," Mustaine tells 93X Radio. "Time is short. Nobody knows how long they're going to live. You see what happened with Jeff Hanneman – so I want to write as much as I can while I can."

Meanwhile, Mustaine has confirmed he's getting ready to jam Metallica track Metal Militia with Jason Newsted. Read about that here.

Student's Van Halen Hot For Teacher Lawsuit Dismissed
(hennemusic) A Federal judge has dismissed a Michigan student's lawsuit against Oakland University after he was suspended for writing about his attraction to his teachers in a class journal based on a Van Halen classic.

57-year-old Joseph Corlett sued the school in March for $2.2 million and four lost credits, claiming his free-speech rights were violated after he was suspended in 2012 after writing about his writing instructor. He titled his essay "Hot for Teacher," the name of a Van Halen song.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports U.S. District Judge Patrick Duggan dismissed Corlett's lawsuit and ruled in favor of Oakland University in suburban Detroit on Tuesday. more on this story

Ozzy Can Now Die Happy
(TeamRock Radio) Black Sabbath singer Ozzy Osbourne says he can "die a happy man" after released reunion album 13. It's the band's first-ever number one hit and topped the charts all over the world.

Ozzy says: "After 45 years it's kind of a hard thing to swallow. It's great. I'm not saying I don't want it to be number one – but I just don't understand why now.

"I wasn't really happy with the way it ended before, but this album has been received really well all over the world. I know I can now rest my head and die a happy man."

But he recalls worrying that the new material wasn't going to click with fans, after they played the first of two shows in Auckland, New Zealand. Ozzy explains here.

Nirvana Still Lives According To Confused College Student
(Radio.com) A self-proclaimed Nirvana fan from Virginia Tech University is gaining notoriety on the Internet for a well-intentioned, but severely misguided letter they sent to the band's record label.

In the note, which was revealed on Sub Pop's Tumblr earlier today (July 24), the student asks Nirvana to send a recorded message for the college's homecoming week.

"It would simply be 'What's up Virginia Tech? This is Nirvana! Just wanted to wish you guys a Happy Homecoming Week and good luck at the game this Saturday. LETS GO HOKIES!" the student writes.

The unidentified student–who refers to themselves as the school's mascot–goes on to explain that the band would be just one of the artists sending a message for a video collage the school is making, mentioning that Big & Rich, Ying Yang Twins, the Cataracs, Slightly Stoopid and "three famous NFL Players" are also expected to participate.

Besides the obvious problem that Kurt Cobain passed away 19 years ago, there are a few other issues with the request, like the fact that the student says this video will "provide great publicity" for Nirvana and identifies the band as a "her."

Nevertheless, Sub Pop has obliged the request, letting fans know a video is indeed on the way: "Video forthcoming with the script: 'What's up Virginia Tech? This is Nirvana! Just wanted to wish you guys a Happy Homecoming Week and good luck at the game this Saturday. LET'S GO HOAGIES!' Or something like that."

The video has since been released and features four Sub Pop team members doing their best (worst?) Nirvana impression. Watch it here.

Don Dokken Writing New Music For Possible Dokken Album
(Gibson) Don Dokken says New Dokken album may happen. In an interview with Classic Metal Show, the veteran rocker said his treatment for throat problems played into his feeling that Dokken was finished.

"With chemo and radiation and my age I thought, 'I've had a great run. God bless everybody,'" he explained. "You know, 30 years is a great run, a lot of bands had one hit and then 'adios'. But I don't know, I kind of fell in love.

"I think it's my dog. I have a new dog, a little golden doodle, and he's kind of inspired me. I want to stay home, and he goes, 'grrr grrr grrr grrr,' and that means 'get your ass back on the road.' I've got to feed him, so I'm writing a new Dokken record."

Dokken muddied the waters a bit by also saying he wasn't sure his current writing sessions would turn into a new Dokken record. "I'm just writing songs," he said. "I have five done, very up-tempo, kind of like 'Hot for Teacher' Van Halen. Very up, happy kind of arena rock." more on this story

Rolling Stones Story Told In 50 Songs
(Gibson) An authority on the Rolling Stones has compiled back stories to 50 songs that chronicle the band's career. Hitting book stores this week, Rocks Off: 50 Tracks That Tell the Story of the Rolling Stones was written by Bill Janovitz, frontman for the alternative band Buffalo Tom.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Janovitz said he was drawn to the project because it was more about the music than a straight-up biography. He cited "Respectable," from the Stones classic 1978 Some Girls album, as an example of how he approached the book, saying the track was "about [the Stones] reclaiming their rock & roll rebellion thing when the threat of punk was being taken pretty seriously by rock fans."

"I hadn't anticipated becoming the Stones authority,'" Janovitz added. "I really wanted to write about the specifics of what I love, how things work. I have all this inside information from being in the studio all these years. It wasn't a difficult pitch." more on this story

New Movie For Warren Zevon, Keith Richards Sideman Waddy Wachtel
(Gibson) King of the Sidemen is a film that chronicles Waddy Wachtel's experiences backing such major artists as Warren Zevon, Jackson Browne and (most notably) Keith Richards. Richards is among those who appear in the documentary.

"He is a natural maestro," says Richards, who recruited Wachtel to be in his solo band, the X-Pensive Winos. "He can take a song to further heights than you expected, beyond expectations. I envy him, quite honestly."

Stories of key sessions are included in the film, including the one that produced "Take It So Hard," a classic track from Richards' 1988 album, Talk is Cheap.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Wachtel said the song was the first the band ever cut. "The level of musicianship in that band was really about as high as it gets," he reveals. "It was take one and we were all standing there going, 'Oh, my God, that was pretty amazing.' I don't even know if we really rehearsed." more on this story

Singled Out: Jared James Nichols' Let You Go
Today 22-year-old blues-rock guitar prodigy Jared James Nichols tells us about the song "Let You Go" from his brand new EP "Old Glory & The Wild Revival," which was released this week. Here is the story:

The main guitar hook for the first single "Let You Go" off of our new EP " Old Glory & The Wild Revival" was actually written a few years back on an old acoustic guitar. At the time, I was listening a lot to old recordings by bluesman Jimmy Reed along with the classic rock group FREE. Its a tip of the hat to a certain slinky, swagger groove I've always admired.

The theme and lyrics of the song send the message about finding a true love and trying to express the emotion and feeling that brings along with the trials that every relationship has. The vocal delivery is very honest, while the verse lyrics are off the cuff, the chorus lyric sums up the attitude of the whole song. "I don't wanna let you down, I don't wanna let you go, even if it takes all my life.." These lines struck a chord in me while the song developed into what it is on the recording.

Besides vocally, I also try and work out all the emotions I feel through my guitar, and deliver the true expression of what the song represents. From low moans and cries, to moments of pure joy, I try to touch on all emotions. This song is a favorite of mine as it comes across very powerful when we play it live as well. It starts to take on a life of it own..

Hearing is believing. Check out some of the tracks from the EP here, check out the EPK here and Jared kicks off his The Wild Revival Tour this Saturday, grab the dates and learn more about the EP right here!
