Bun E. Carlos Vs Cheap Trick
(Classic Rock) Estranged Cheap Trick drummer Bun E Carlos has sued the rest of the band for hundreds of thousands of dollars, saying they have no right to keep using the band name without him.

He's joined in the action by former manager David Frey, who says he's still owed money for covering the band's costs after the 2011 stage collapse which destroyed their equipment.

Carlos claims his ex-collagues failed to stick to an agreement that saw him removed from the lineup while remaining a full member of the band for business purposes.

He and Frey have filed legal papers at Cook County Court, in which they say: "Plaintiffs are forced to bring this action against the three Defendants due to defendants' outright refusal to account for, or pay, hundreds of thousands of dollars which are owed to each of the Plaintiffs, or to otherwise comply with their obligations to Plaintiffs." A lot more details.

Soundgarden To Take Extended Break
(hennemusic) As Soundgarden prepare to launch their European tour in support of "King Animal" on September 4 in Helsinki, Finland, guitarist Kim Thayil says the band will be taking an extended break from the road to work on a variety of projects.

"I think [after the European tour] that will be it for awhile," Thayil tells Seattle's KIRO Radio. "I know that [drummer] Matt [Cameron]'s going to be some touring with Pearl Jam and I think [singer] Chris [Cornell] is going to be working on a solo acoustic record and he might be playing some shows during that.

"And I will be working on compiling the Soundgarden B-sides box, which we have a lot of songs that were released on European and Australian releases, movie soundtracks, various things like that that have yet to be compiled and put into album form." more on this story

KISS Present New Home To Wounded War Veteran
(hennemusic) KISS made a special presentation to a wounded Iraq war veteran during their July 20 headlining show at Rock Fest in Cadott, WI. Working in conjunction with the festival, Military Warriors Support Foundation and co-sponsors Impact Gel, the band paused its show to introduce a wounded military veteran named Ramon Rivera to the crowd — and present Rivera and his wife with a brand new, mortgage-free house.

"We have special guests with us tonight I'd like to bring out," singer Paul Stanley told the crowd. "Roman Rivera and his wife Michelle, and Ken from Military Warriors Support Foundation, please join me out here.

"Roman is a Wisconsin native, everybody. He is also a decorated veteran. He was severely injured during his combat tour in Iraq by an improvised bomb. He is a tried-and-true hero."

"We have the privilege of presenting Roman and his family with a mortgage-free, two-story, four-bedroom, three-car attached garage home in Janesville, Wisconsin. Again, completely mortgage-free," add Stanley. "Please join me in congratulating Roman, and thank you to everyone for their service to our country!" more on this story

Chris Squire of Yes Almost Produced Classic Rush Album

But he was surprised to meet collaborator Trevor Horn when he went to talks with the Canadian three-piece. In a Q&A on the Yes website, Squire says: "I was a possible candidate to produce a Rush album. When I showed up there, Trevor was sitting next to me.

Former Bury Your Dead Guitarist Eric Ellis Releasing Album From Prison
Former Bury Your Dead guitarist Eric Ellis is reportedly planning to release his first full length album from federal prison sometime this fall. The album will be released under the Gevicht moniker and will be entitled "The Weight of Knowing," according to a posting on the project's YouTube channel.

Earlier this week we received an email, purporting to be from Ellis, which provided these details: Despite having been sentenced on racketeering charges, Ellis is planning public release of an entirely instrumental composition- riddled with complex odd time signatures and unconventional polyrhythms.

"This project began to take shape in my time off between Bury Your Dead tours. it went through many different forms as it evolved over the years... You (will) have the choice collection from that expanse... (for) those who can appreciate the precision and beauty of technical music, Gevicht is my legacy."

Ellis began his appeal process in June. Check out the YouTube channel for some clips here.

Monster Magnet Return With New Album and North American Tour
Monster Magnet have announced the release of their new studio album and also revealed the dates for the band's first North American tour in over a decade.

The band has set an October 15th North American release date for their brand new studio album, which will be entitled "Last Patrol" and will be released as standard edition CD, a limited edition CD, 2 LP vinyl and also digitally.

Monster Magnet frontman Dave Wyndorf and guitarist Phil Caivano produced the new album, with Matt Hyde providing additional production duties and mixing was done by Joe Barresit (Soundgarden, Puscifer, Clutch, Coheed and Cambria, Queens of the Stone Age, Melvins, Kyuss).

The band will be supporting the new album by launching their first North American tour in over ten years on November 14tth in Grand Rapids, MI.

Dave Wyndorf had this to say about the album, "Last Patrol is a return to our roots in terms of vibe and recording style. It's full-on psychedelic space-rock with a 60's garage feel, recorded almost exclusively with vintage guitars, amps and effects in our hometown of Red Bank, NJ.

"The songs are a kind of Space-Noir, tales of cosmic revenge, peaking libidos, alienation and epic strangeness. It's a weird trip through the back alleys of a dark, retro-future, which not by coincidence very much resembles my own life. (laughs)

"The lyrics aren't fantasy really, rather a recounting of my musings on, observations of and general emotional reaction to my life and environment during a 1 week writing period in February of 2013. But I tend to use the vernacular and imagery of science fiction and surrealism to express myself and that's where these lyrics get trippy. There's also our cover version of Donovan's 'Three Kingfishers' which I thought fit the mood of the album.

"Last Patrol was produced by Phil Caivano and myself with an effort to bring a home grown feel to the whole affair. We had been doing smaller projects out of Phil's 'Studio 13' recording space and I really felt comfortable there so it was the natural choice on where to record the next full-scale Monster Magnet album. Phil and I grew up together and have a shared love of some very particular vintage music and styles. And everybody in the band played their asses off on this one." more on this story

Great White and Jack Russell Settle Name Dispute
Original Great White frontman Jack Russell has announced that he has reached an agreement with Great White to settle litigation over the use of the band's name.

Jack Russell's Great White Pirates Page for Russell's version of the band posted the following news on their Facebook page on Tuesday, "In March, 2012, Russell sued his former bandmates Mark Kendall, Michael Lardie and Audie Desbrow over their continuing use of 'Great White' after Russell had taken a leave of absence from the band for medical reasons.

"The band countersued, and the parties have been involved in contentious litigation for the last year. After three days of closed-door mediation before U.S. Magistrate Judge Carla Woehrle, the parties reached a comprehensive agreement.

"While many of the terms of the agreement will remain confidential, it can be revealed that, going forward, the current Great White band will continue to use the name 'Great White' and Russell will perform under the name 'Jack Russell's Great White'. Facebook link.

AFI Announce New Album Details
(Radio.com) After teasing their latest single, "I Hope You Suffer," late last week, AFI officially announced an October 22 release date for their new album, Burials.

The follow-up to 2009's Crash Love was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Gil Horton, who has previously worked with the Pixies and the Foo Fighters. Though AFI has been working on the album for two years, the band managed to keep it under wraps until earlier this year when they released a series of cryptic teaser videos preceding the official album announcement.

"This record is of silence, of burials, and the burials that result from that silence," frontman Davey Havok said in a statement. "It's of betrayal, cruelty, weakness, anxiety, panic – deep and slow – despair, injury and loss. And in this it is shamefully honest and resolutely unforgiving."

This darker theme is all over "I Hope You Suffer," which features Havok singing, "I hope you suffer/ I hope you do/ Just like I suffered," to a spurned ex-lover.

The band will be hitting the road for a North American tour, which kicks off September 12 in Minneapolis.

Listen to the new song and grab the tour dates here.

Wolf People Started As A Hip Hop Band
(Prog) Wolf People are one of the brightest rising stars in the world of folk-prog, but they started out as a hip hop band, says frontman Jack Sharp. Then he encountered the music of Pentangle, and everything changed.

The four-piece released second album Fain in April, soaked in English and Scottish folk tunes with a definite psychedelic twist. Sharp tells the Guardian: "I'd had a copy of Pentangle's first album for years, which I'd picked up for sampling – and one day it just clicked.

"I realised my mum used to sing Let No Man Steal Your Thyme to me when I was a kid, so there was already a deep emotional connection. That was a gateway drug to folk for me.

"What draws me to traditional music is that the songs are there to do a job, to tell a story, to make work easier. There's no pomposity, celebrity or ego." What else inspired him?

John Mellencamp Art Exhibit Announced
The Butler Institute of American Art have announced that they will be holding the exhibition "The Paintings of John Mellencamp" from November 3, 2013 through January 12, 2014.

We were sent these details: This show, which will feature some forty paintings, some never before seen by the public, is John Mellencamp's first art museum exhibition.

According to Butler director and chief curator Dr. Louis Zona, who organized the exhibition, "The Butler is pleased and proud to showcase these remarkable paintings by an American icon. Mellencamp's very personal works, rooted in the traditions of European expressionism, display a unique understanding of art history, theory and composition. They are crafted with both skill and spontaneity by a great talent who is truly 'twice blessed' with the creative gene."

Mellencamp says, "Initially I was interested in portraitures only. I started looking at Rembrandt and those guys. That genre of painting. That led me to Impressionism which I didn't really have a feeling for. From that it went to German Expressionism which has stayed and remains the basic foundation for what I do. Max Beckmann, Otto Dix, the foundation of my influence, same as folk music is the foundation of my songs."

Singled Out: Brand New Machine's Girls Like You
Today Brand New Machine frontman Brantly Thompson tells us about the song "Girls Like You" which comes from their brand new album "The Devil Made Me Do It" (out this week!). Here is the story:

"Girls Like You" was a no brainer to knock out. The mindset was to come up with a strip club anthem for a new generation. We wanted to pay homage to the hardest working women in show business, as well as give a big throwback nod to some of the classic rock legends like Mφtley Crόe and AC/DC.

We recorded "Girls Like You" along with the rest of the record in North Hollywood with producer Ryan Greene (Alice Cooper, Megadeth, Cheap Trick). Ryan really did a killer job taking that two fisted, alcohol fueled attitude and capturing the seediness of a strip club on that track that makes you wanna get a penicillin shot after listening to it!

The new album "The Devil Made Me Do It" hits stores and iTunes July 23rd on Epochal Artist Records/Capitol Music Group, so the first single was to be released at the beginning of the summer. "Girls Like You" just seemed to be the perfect choice. Rock radio has been very receptive, the response has been great, and having "Porsche" or "Candy" dancing to the track ain't too bad either. Check Brand New Machine out on Facebook or at www.brandnewmachine.net and we'll see you out on the road!

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and check out the video right here!

Hanni El Khatib Releases 'Pay No Mind' Video
(Classic Rock) Hanni El Khatib has released a video for his track Pay No Mind. It's his second promo from second album "Head In The Dirt," released in April – which, he insists, is music for anyone who's ever been shot.

It was directed by Simon Cahn, of whom El Khatib says: "He has a very specific type of humour that he always injects into his work. I like it when creatives don't take themselves too seriously."

Describing the vibe of the album, produced by Dan Auerback of the Black Keys, he comments: "I think the best place to listen is in a Mazda Miata with the top down, naked and sucking on a pina colada."

El Khatib is featured on the CD accompanying the next edition of Classic Rock. For now check out the new video here.

Beady Eye Release Shine A Light Video
(hennemusic) Oasis offshoot Beady Eye have released the video for their new single, "Shine A Light." The track, from the band's recently-released sophomore album, "BE", follows the release of "Second Bite Of The Apple" and "Flick Of The Finger" as the latest track issued from the project.

The follow-up to 2011's "Different Gear, Still Speeding" was recorded in London with producer Dave Sitek (TV On The Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs).

The band's Liam Gallagher, Andy Bell and Gem Archer experimented with Protools, cassette tapes, samplers, recorded conversation, iphone apps and unusual instrumentation to create an ambitious collection of new songs for the project.

''Working with Site just opened something up in us," said Gallgher. "He's without a doubt the best producer I've ever worked with, a real outlaw - he doesn't give a f***, no rules. We had a new found focus when we were writing it - we really got our heads down and got our s*** together - clear heads, none of that crap from the 90s. It feels like a really special record for us."
