KISS Launching Their Own Pro Football Team
Veteran rock band KISS announced yesterday that they will be launching a new Arena Football expansion team called LA KISS that will be based out of Los Angeles country's neighboring county, Orange County, Ca. and KISS will be performing the half-time show during the league's televised championship game this weekend.

The new team will be based at the Honda Center in Anaheim, home of the Anaheim Ducks, and the band announced that inaugural season ticket holders will be invited to a "free" KISS concert that will take place at the venue next year.

KISS co-founder Gene Simmons explains why the band decided to launch the team in his usual Gene Simmons fashion, "As a fast-paced, high-action band this partnership with the AFL was an obvious fit for us," said Simmons.

"With Arena Football, you are much closer to the action - sitting in the front row is like putting a folding chair on the hash mark of an NFL game – and it's one of the only sports where you can experience this level of intensity. Attending an LA KISS game in 2014 will be similar to a live KISS show, with thrilling, heart pounding action."

Fans will be able to tune in to CBS this Saturday, August 17th for the ArenaBowl XXVI Championship game that will feature KISS performing on their new spider stage during the half-time show.

The game will be kicking off at 1pm EST / 10am PST on CBS.

Zakk Wylde Speaks Out About A Rod Doping Scandal
Black Label Society frontman and former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde was the featured guest on the latest episode of Talking Metal and the talk actually ventured away from metal and over to third base as Wylde shared his views about the Alex Rodriguez doping scandal.

Here is what he had to say about the matter, "I just thought it is kind of weird. Didn't he just go through this 4 years ago when the Yankees won the World Series? Remember he came out and said 'I tried it for awhile and it was wrong of me and I shouldn't have done it but I know this wasn't making my numbers go up and it wasn't like I was hitting the ball any further so I just stopped doing it. Maybe I wasn't even doing it right to begin with or taking the right stuff. Who knows if it was even phony' and he goes 'I am not on anything right now so whatever.'

"And it just seemed like it was over. It was like he came out and didn't lie and everyone was fine with that. Now all of a sudden they are going after him again so I don't understand it. I really don't.

"Put it this way, if he takes a piss test, blood test and a hair sample and there is nothing in his system then who the f**k cares? Does anyone have any blood, hair or urine samples from whenever they thought he was taking it in 2001 and 2002?

"It is like 'no, we don't have any evidence' then who can you put this guy in jail? You don't have the murder weapon, you don't have any blood, you don't have any evidence, no fingerprints. OJ, they had evidence. A Rod they have no evidence." Check out the full episode here.

Paul McCartney Working On New Album
(Radio.com) Former Beatle Paul McCartney has been writing and recording what will be his 16th studio album, which is expected to be released sometime this fall.

Rolling Stone reports that McCartney, who has been traversing the U.S. for the last couple of months on his Out There Tour, has been working on his follow-up to 2012′s Kisses On The Bottom with a cadre of guests, including producers Mark Ronson, Adele hitmaker Paul Epworth, and Giles Martin, son of "fifth Beatle" and producer George Martin.

The album will also feature the son of a Beatle contemporary, producer Ethan Johns, whose father Glyn Johns worked with The Beatles, The Who and The Rolling Stones. The young Johns has also produced a handful of seminal indie records like Ryan Adams' Heartbreaker, the first two Kings Of Leon records, and the last three Laura Marling records. In an interview with RS, Johns said that he and McCartney first started recording a song called "Hosannah" on vintage instruments to analog tape.

"It had an incredible feel," said Johns of the song, "a really evocative piece of music, a very interesting lyric, and the performance was great. Then we started to experiment with it, and I put a bunch of psychedelic strangeness on it. You have fun. 'Oh, try this! Do that!' It's just very inspiring to be around."

Johns and McCartney recorded four new songs in total over the three to four weeks they spent in the studio, first at London's AIR Studios then later at the famous Abbey Road Studios. more on this story

Head Says Things Are Better With Korn This Time
(TeamRock Radio) Korn guitarist Brian 'Head' Welch says there's not a single bad thing about his reunion with the band. In fact, his life has spun 180 degrees since he left in 2005, and it doesn't matter to him how it happened.

"Back then I was just up to no good, up to no good at all, to the point where I really just ended up sick," Head says. "Not necessarily sick in the sense of throwing up but just feeling sick and ill every night, towards the end of every night on tour back in the day.

"Now I really feel like we are having a better experience overall. It's such a contrast from how it used to be – it's a total 180." more on this story

Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson Announces Tour and Prog God Award
Jethro Tull frontman Ian Anderson have announced that he will be embarking on a UK tour next Spring and also responded to news that he will be receiving the Prog God Award at this year's Progressive Music Awards.

The tour will be kicking off on April 28th in 28th Brighton at the Dome and will be concluding with two nights at the 02 Shepherds Bush Empire in London on May 24th and 25th.

The Progressive Music Awards will be taking place on September 3rd in London and are spearheaded by Day in Rock news partner Prog Magazine. Here is what Anderson had to say about his Prog God Award honor and addressed a controversial past honor he received, "After winning the Grammy for best 'Hard Rock/Metal" album back in 1988, this seems like an opportunity to justify that strange and misplaced accolade with a new album to celebrate the more forceful, full-on rock credentials which are found in many of my songs over the last 45 years.

"It's not an end to the acoustic and gentler moments but more of an emphasis on the louder aggressive flute style which marked me out from the earliest days of Jethro Tull."

He adds, "The innocent voyage of restless souls: that's prog rock. Sometimes bombastic, self-indulgent and worse, it is also an honest, gut-felt reaction to the often simplistic and repetitive nature of much of pop and rock.

"It is, indeed, an honour to receive this illustrious Prog award and dwell in such lofty heights amongst the good and the great of the last forty-plus years. I remain very happy to inhabit the progressive rock world, as both performer and listener.

"And where else could a self-taught, mediocre but extremely loud flute player make a decent living? Not in country and western, I would suppose. But, hey: if the boots fit and the buckskin-fringed coyote crooner calls, then count me in Cowboy! Brokeback Mountain could never sound sweeter."

Prog Magazine Editor Jerry Ewing had this to say, "For 45 years Ian has been playing live, and I don't think I have ever seen two shows the same! It doesn't matter if its Jethro Tull or Ian on his own – its always magnificent, groundbreaking and captivating. Without him rock would be a very different and lesser place, so to announce him as our Prog God at the same time as he announces a UK tour seems hugely fitting."

Anderson will be touring in support of his forthcoming album, which he describes as a 'Folk-Prog-Metal' concept album. The album will be released next year and fans can expect to hear tracks from the effort along with Jethro Tull classics on the tour. more on this story

Former Praying Mantis Singer Speaks Out About Firing
(Classic Rock) Fired Praying Mantis singer Mike Freeland says former bandmate Tino Troy has lied about him and he can't understand why. Troy dismissed Freeland and drummer Gary Mackenzie last month, and later stated the vocalist had to go because the quality of his performances had crashed since the recording of 2009 album Sanctuary.

"Mike's vocal performance was second to none; the ensuing shows we did were pitch-perfect. I still don't know to this day what happened over the last couple of years," Troy said. "Perhaps you should ask Mike that question. As far as I'm concerned he lost it, for reasons best known to himself and those closest to him."

The singer has responded to Troy's comments by saying: "I don't want to wage any war with Praying Mantis. I've said nothing to instigate such a thing.

"I was very ill during my last two performances with them, but I'm not going to bore you with the details. In hindsight, I should have had the guts to cancel the gigs – but I've always gone with the notion that the show must go on." He is not done.

Guitarist Says The Strokes Will Be Back
(Gibson) When the Strokes didn't tour in support of their most recent release, Comedown Machine, rumors swirled that the band would soon call it quits. But if you believe guitarist Albert Hammond Jr., the Strokes are most certainly still together. In fact, he hopes the guys will get back together to do some Strokes-related business soon.

"At some point we will do something and we will speak about it wholly and it will feel good," Hammond Jr. told NME. "The Strokes are always…going to have something. I'm not saying that's the word from the band, just that's how I look at it, how it feels -- like we've gone past the point of not doing stuff."

Comedown Machine , which marked the band's fifth studio album, debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard 200 albums its debut week out, pushing 41,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen Soundscan. more on this story

The Union Release New Video and Announce DVD and Tour

Guitarist Luke Morley, also of Thunder, says it was a happy coincidence they were able to recruit Prisoner's Wives actress Emma Rigby for the promo.

"My wife worked with Emma on Prisoner's Wives," he reports. "When it turned out Emma was a fan of our last album, she was the natural person to ask.

"The video is quite unlike anything we've done before – there's a twist at the end of it. Plus, Pete and I are barely in it, which isn't a bad thing!"

Singled Out: Baby Bee's High Heel Leather Boots
Today Joe Stark from Baby Bee tells us about the song "High Heel Leather Boots" from their brand self-titled EP which was produced by Brendan O'Brien (Pearl Jam, Neil Young, Stone Temple Pilots). Here is the story:

This one came fast... This is usually not the case but I think I had probably struggled through writing a few sh*t songs with my brother before this super simple melody hook entered my head. That melody and the lyric "Kick It Like" both came almost simultaneously ... I remember pacing around thinking "Kick It Like what?" Then I let my appreciation of the female form take over my imagination and the answer rolled off the tongue... High Heel leather Boots. There is a sort of rhythmic cadence to that phrase that felt to me like something an early 50's rock and roller might say.

I took this tune to my brother Dave and we worked up a few different verse lyrics and a slow sexy feel with the music. The third incarnation of the song came when we worked with producer Dave Cobb. He suggested singing the verses over one chord instead of a progression, sped it wwaaaayy up, and got us that crazy rock and roll surf guitar break.

Around this time I asked Dave to cop the intro to Led Zeps "Rock and Roll" which we later learned was John Bonham coping Chuck Berry's Johnny B Goode... so this truly went full circle around the classic rock pendulum. This was really a fun song to write and record and it feels great every time we play it live.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself here and learn more about the album right here!
