Man Murdered Over Karaoke
(Radio.com) A night of what was supposed to be harmless fun singing karaoke, turned deadly after an American tourist refused to stop singing and was stabbed to death.

Bobby Ray Carter was vacationing in Krabi, Thailand when he took the stage at Little Longhorn Saloon. After the band skipped his song selection and instead played the Eagles classic "Hotel California," a reportedly drunk Carter refused to get off the stage.

After he refused to allow any other singers on the stage, a fight broke out between Carter, 51, and the musicians when he demanded back the money he had given as a tip.

"The real fight broke out outside of that pub," Lieutenant Colonel Attapong Seanjaiwuth of Krabi tourist police said, according to Channel NewsAsia. "He was stabbed twice and died while on the way to local hospital." more on this story

Alice In Chains Uproar Festival Offering $10 Ticket Promotion
Fans can score tickets to the upcoming Uproar Festival lead by Alice In Chains and Jane's Addiction for just $20 for seats and $10 for lawn (plus fees) at most of the tour stops and fans may have had trouble being able to take advantage of the special deal. But if not successful at first, we learned that checking back a few hours later may pay off.

Organizers launched the promotion Thursday night and are offering the discounted tickets via Livenation.com and the tour's official site. The promotion is only running until Sunday and tickets for most of the venues that are taking part in the promotion were not available online when we checked late Thursday night. However, when we checked back for several of the venues a few hours later the tickets were available.

We originally went to the tour's website here and then clicked on the "tickets" link for each stop on the tour that is taking part in this special promotion.

Most of the links lead fans to the Live Nation website to buy the tickets. However, most of the venues that are supposed to be part of this special promotion originally came up with notices that said "Tickets Not Available Online."

The announcement listed 18 venues taking part in this promotion (one of which did not have a lawn section, so it does not have that promotion) but on Thursday night we were only able to find the special discounted tickets for three of the shows.

For those three venues we clicked on the link and it brought up Live Nation's interactive map (which timed out for 2 of the 3). When you get to that screen, there is a little tab above the map labeled "Interactive Seat Map" with a red menu arrow. Click the arrow and select "Choose Seats For Me" and you should find the promotional tickets listed in the selections offered.

Right before this article was published we rechecked five of the Live Nation links that previously said that tickets were not available online and found the promotion tickets were now available. It could be that Live Nation was retooling their site for the promotion. So if you attempted to buy tickets on Thursday night soon after the promotion was launched and were not able to, you should try again and see if you have better luck as we did when we tried again. more on this story

Rush Releasing Box Set and Vapor Trails Remix
(hennemusic) Rush will release two major reissues this fall, including a 7-disc boxed set, "The Studio Albums 1989-2007", and a remixed version of 2002's "Vapor Trails".

Due October 1, the boxed set will include Rush's full album catalog from Atlantic Records from their 1989 album "Presto" through their and 2007 album "Snakes & Arrows."

The boxed set will include a remixed version of "Vapor Trails". "Vapor Trails was an album made under difficult and emotional circumstances — sort of like Rush learning how to be Rush again — and as a result, mistakes were made that we have longed to correct," said Geddy Lee.

"David Bottrill's remixes have finally brought some justice and clarity to this deserving body of our work. Every song has been given a new life, from the fire of 'One Little Victory", 'Secret Touch', and 'Ceiling Unlimited' to the melodic musicality of 'Sweet Miracle' and 'How It Is'... these songs have been redeemed. Thank you David!" more on this story

Portnoy Would Return To Dream Theater 'In A Heartbeat'
(TeamRock Radio) Former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy admits that he would return to the band the moment he was asked but he doesn't believe he will be.

He shocked fans by making a surprise departure in 2010 after attempting to persuade his bandmates to take a break from the rigours of recording and touring.

By the time he'd reconsidered and asked to return, they'd hired new sticksman Mike Mangini, and they're poised to release their second album with him.

Portnoy says: "I would do it in a heartbeat. They are the ones who have closed the door on it.

"I only needed a break and I've had that break, so I'm ready, willing and able." More.

Ghost May Unmask Soon
(TeamRock Radio) Mysterious metallers Ghost could be unmasked in the near future, says one of the band's Nameless Ghouls. He says they have big plans for the future, and, like Kiss, Slipknot and other masked outfits, it will eventually be impossible to keep their identities secret.

The Nameless Ghoul explains: "I think we've been able to sustain our thing so far because there hasn't been that kind of level of interest in the band.

"That will change. It's something of a paradox. To go further as a band doesn't run parallel with being anonymous." Find out what one of the motivations may be here.

Pearl Jam Wanted Dead Kennedys Sound On New Song
(Classic Rock) Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready says he wanted lead track "Mind Your Manners" from upcoming album "Lightning Bolt" to feel as much like the Dead Kennedys as possible.

Since his background is more heavy metal than punk, he relied on bassist Jeff Ament's input to achieve what he was aiming for in the song. McCready explains:

"It's my attempt at trying to make a really hard-edge type Dead Kennedys sounding song. In terms of town I was thinking East Bay Ray and California Uber Alles. I wanted that kind of aggression.

"I came up with the lyrics 'Mind your manners' and Jeff brought in a lot of his real punk-rock ideas. The school he comes from is that, and I wanted to dive into that side." Check out the video clip with McCready here.

Buddy Guy Has The Radio Blues
(Gibson) Buddy Guy has some advice for radio stations: give blues music its just due. As reported by Billboard, the 77-year-old guitar legend said, "I'm not saying play the blues every day like everything else. Just play the blues two or three times a week and I'll be happy with that."

Buddy Guy's latest release, the double-album set Rhythm & Blues, features guest appearances from veterans and younger artists, including Gary Clark Jr.

The blues great said artists such as Clark Jr. and 14-year-old six-string sensation Quinn Sullivan are giving the genre renewed vigor, much as British players did in the '60s.

"In the late `50s and `60s, people in America were ignoring guys like B.B. King and T-Bone Walker," explained Guy. "When the British guys started playing the blues, people thought it was something new, but that gave the blues a lift. I'm hoping that same thing will happen with the new youngsters." more on this story

Tony Turrell Leaves The Reasoning
(Prog) Welsh prog rockers The Reasoning have announced that keyboard player Tony Turrell has quit the band. He has been replaced by multi-intrumentalist Robert Gerrard who joins Matthew and Rachel Cohen, Jake Bradford-Sharpe and Keith Hawkins in the revised line-up.

The band announced state: "Earlier this summer, Tony approached us stating that for very personal reasons, he had found himself with no choice but to relinquish his position within the band. Whilst this was a shock and a disappointment to us, we fully understood his predicament, and supported his decision unconditionally, such that we came to accept his resignation."

The former Fish keyboard player himself says: "I'm sorry to announce that as of this summer, I am no longer a part of The Reasoning. This is totally my own choice, and down to where I am at the moment in terms of time, health and head space. The band have been incredibly supportive and whilst not wanting me to go, whole-heartedly respected my decision. My reasons are not the ones normally associated with someone leaving a band – fighting, dislike or the good old-fashioned "musical differences" (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) – and every member of the band has become a dear and close friend over the course of the last 3 years (or year in Keith's case). more on this story
