(Classic Rock) Ozzy Osbourne is responsible for forcing Tony Iommi to confront his cancer, the Black Sabbath axe icon has revealed. It was his bandmate who pushed him to see a doctor when he was suffering from groin pain, which later turned out to be lymphoma. And Iommi has credited the band with giving him something to focus on while he continues his fight against the disease. He tells hometown paper The Birmingham Mail: "Ozzy was the one who kept on at me to go to the doctors because he was concerned about me. He has been very supportive since I was diagnosed. "All the guys have been great. Even now, when we arrive at the studio, they ask how I'm feeling, if I'm up to it, making sure I'm okay." more on this story

(Classic Rock) Kirk Hammett says Metallica are hoping to release a new album next year but he's not sure it will happen. The band are focusing all their energies on upcoming 3D movie Metallica Through The Never, and don't intend to turn away from it.Hammett tells GulfNews.com that work on the follow-up to 2008′s Death Magnetic has been pencilled in for completion next year: "That's what we're hoping would happen. Whether that's a reality, we'll see. We're recording stuff here and there but it's a pretty slow process. "Metallica Through The Never is taking precedence over anything else at the moment, We want to make sure the movie gets our full attention and it turns out the way we want it to turn out." Delays to recording sessions might be no bad thing for Hammett, who admits: "I really enjoy playing live shows. It's enormously satisfying writing songs. It's not so fun for me in the studio because I am a bit ADD." more on this story

(Classic Rock) Geoff Tate has made his Queensryche album Frequency Unknown available for streaming. The album consists of ten new tracks plus four reworked Queensryche classics: Silent Lucidity, Empire, Jet City Woman and I Don't Believe In Love. It's set for release on April 23, and features the work of bassist Rudy Sarzo, guitarist Kelly Gray, keyboardist Randy Gane, guitarist Robert Sarzo and drummer Simon Wright. Guest spots come from KK Downing, Chris Poland, Ty Tabor, Paul Bostaph, Lita Ford, Brad Gillis, Dave Meniketti and Craig Locicero. It's released two months ahead of the upcoming album from the version of Queensryche which fired Tate last year – but the frontman's progress has been far from straightforward, with lineup changes and mixing issues getting in the way. Tate recently said: "We were a little rushed on the mixing end of it, so we're having some of the songs remixed before the album comes out. That's typical with records – you have to have them in on time. Luckily, with this situation, we get to go back and correct some areas where we thought it was kind of lacking. I've done that on probably three quarters of the records I've ever made." Have a listen here.

I don't see anybody else out there screaming about the same sh*t I'm screaming about. On this album, there isn't any wordplay, there isn't any hidden message, it's all right there in front of you." Housecore Records, Anselmo's own record label, will be releasing "Walk Through Exits Only" on CD, vinyl and as a digital download. Motley Crue mastermind Nikki Sixx says in a new interview that fans shouldn't "freak out yet" about comments he recently made about the band planning to retire. Sixx spoke with MSN ahead of the band's upcoming Canadian tour and they asked him about his comments and speculation that the band is working on what may be their final album and they will then launch a farewell tour. Nikki responded, "Mötley Crüe has been the core of our live. It's been the reason we have anything at all. The four of us made Mötley Crüe, and the four of us want to leave it in a way that we feel proud, and not be one of these bands, where we're sitting around going, 'Why are those guys doing that? There's two versions of that band? Why are they doing it? The lead singer is dead. Why are they touring?' We don't ever want to be like that. "Through the years we talked about when we're absentee, let's call it. Leave it where everyone's like, 'That was an awesome experience.' We can always forever feel proud about that. "We're not there yet. We're going up to Canada. We're doing shows. We're writing music. We're getting everything in line for the movie. We're cool. Don't freak out yet." Nikki also spoke about the progress with bringing his book, "The Heroin Diaries" to Broadway, among other topics. You can read it here.

Record Store Day ambassador Jack White will be celebrating this year's event by allowing the fans to make their very own record at his Third Man Records shop in Nashville. This Saturday, April 20th, is Record Store Day and White has announced that he will unveil a refurbished 1947 Voice-o-Graph machine at his record store. The machine allows fans to record up to 2 minutes of audio which is then dispensed on a one-of-a-kind 6" phonograph disc. Fans are then invited to submit digital versions of their recording to Third Man Records for a special page on their website which will share the streams with the world. White directed a promotional video for the booth that stars Raconteur Brendan Benson who uses the booth in the clip to record a ballad that he wrote specifically for the Third Man Record Booth. You can check it out here. Jack White had this to say, "In one of my final acts as Record Store Day ambassador, I encourage everyone who comes to the Third Man Record Store in Nashville to be able to hear themselves on a vinyl record, and maybe even mail it to someone they love." "Actively venturing to your local record shop is one of those honors and privileges in this life that we just shouldn't take for granted. Certain beautiful experiences can only happen in the environment of a record store and I just thought that nothing could drive that point home more than a one-of-a-kind machine that lets you not only record your own vinyl record, but send it to anyone, anywhere in the world to share a song, poem, or private message with. I know those warm, scratchy tones send tingles up (and sometimes down) MY spine. "Even if you aren't instrumentally inclined, you could hold up an iphone playing a song and sing along with the music and combine the best of all worlds tangible, digital, and romantic. And for those still skeptical or not sure if they're brave enough to do it, think of it this way; it's almost the same thing as illegally downloading an mp3 and emailing it to someone. well..., almost. Enjoy record store day everyone. I hope that you find that special song and someone makes you smile in the process." more on this story

(hennemusic) Rush are hoping the band's induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame on Thursday will open the floodgates for the progressive-rockers who inspired them."I hope this means other great bands like Yes will follow suit," bassist Geddy Lee tells USA Today. "Deep Purple was on the ballot this year, and I was hoping they'd get in with us. We wouldn't be the band we are without Deep Purple's existence." Guitarist Alex Lifeson says he hopes Rush's inclusion "opens the doors for bands like the Moody Blues and King Crimson, who had a huge influence. It's a bit ironic, really. Rock music was born in rebellion, so it's odd to have (a Hall of Fame) where there seem to be guidelines for who's acceptable and who's not." more on this story

It has been shown in primetime in France and Switzerland, with marvelous results. "It's probably one of the finest pieces of video work that any human being has ever done. I did it myself. And the animation that you're gonna see in this was done by a guy named Bruce Bickford, and I hope he is watching the show, because it's probably the first time that a lot of people in America got a chance to see it." Kayos sent over these details: The program was recorded on August 27, 1974 at KCET in Hollywood and feature Zappa on guitar, percussion, vocals; George Duke—keyboards, finger cymbals, tambourine, vocals; Napoleon Murphy Brock—sax, vocals; Ruth Underwood—percussion; Tom Fowler—bass; Chester Thompson—drums. more on this story

With Bernie off duty for a short while, John was the most obvious choice. Having worked with John on a recent feature film called Love.net, I knew his pipes were in great shape, and that he'd be accepted readily by the Heep fans. (Radio.com) In Not Fade Away, we take a look at the legacy of some of the greatest albums of the past few decades – some iconic, some lesser known – as they celebrate significant anniversaries. Here, we take a look at David Bowie's 1973 classic "Aladdin Sane," which turns 40 this month. Today (April 16), a special 40th anniversary edition is being released. "It's almost like the treading-water album," David Bowie said in 1993 of his 1973 classic, Aladdin Sane. It's a surprising admission from an artist who seems to have a vision for every project he is a part of. If he was, in fact, treading water in the months following his breakthrough album, 1972′s The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars, never has treading water sounded so good. The album's producer, Ken Scott, who also produced Ziggy, recalls the recording of the album very differently than Bowie. "My remembrance is of David being as professional and committed as he had been for the previous two albums," Scott told Radio.com. "I'd have to say that, at least for me, Pin Ups was the treading-water album." (Scott also produced 1971′s Hunky Dory and 1973′s covers album, Pin Ups.) Indeed, Aladdin Sane featured one of Bowie's biggest rock radio hits, "The Jean Genie." Somewhat ironically, that song was an ode to former Stooges frontman Iggy Pop, a huge influence on Bowie, but someone who was never able to get much play on rock radio. A night out with Iggy was reportedly the inspiration behind another rocker, "Panic In Detroit," featuring a Bo Diddley-ish beat. The album also featured fan favorites "Watch That Man," "Drive-In Saturday" and "Cracked Actor." The latter song, expressing a cynicism for Hollywood stars ("You sold me illusions for a sack full of cheques") is a theme he returned to on his recent album, The Next Day; on "The Stars (Are Out Tonight)," he sings of "satyrs and their child wives" (ouch). more on this story
