Record Label Vs Fans
(Classic Rock) Independent record label Century Media has taken legal action against 7500 fans of Iced Earth and Lacuna Coil for illegal filesharing of the bands' material.

Papers filed in a New Jersey court identifies 4327 people who downloaded Iced Earth album Dystopia and 3136 users who copied Lacuna Coil's Dark Adrenaline.

The filings currently call the accused "John Doe" but specify their IP addresses. The court will later decide whether that information may be utilized to find the users' real names.

If the decision is found in favor of Century, their lawyers will instruct internet service providers to supply the personal information of each defendant. A lot more info plus details about the result of previous labels taking similar actions.

Pearl Jam and Soundgarden Tour?
(Classic Rock) An Australian radio station has prompted speculation that Soundgarden and Pearl Jam are planning a joint tour in 2013, leading to double duties for Matt Cameron, who plays drums in both bands.

Radar Music believe they've made sense of the jigsaw – they suggest the only way for Cameron to be available for both tours is if they took place simultaneously. And the only thing standing in the way of Pearl Jam hitting the road was they didn't have an album to follow 2009′s Backspacer.

The station says: "Matt has confirmed on multiple occasions that he's not leaving Pearl Jam, and that he's committed to Soundgarden. If he is staying on with both, it could mean only one thing: a Soundgarden and Pearl Jam world tour.

"However we were still missing a key ingredient – a new Pearl Jam album. The tour could only take place if that was on the cares. Cue guitarist Jeff Ament confirming this month that they're half-way through, and on track for an early 2013 release. more on this story

Guitarist Jailed For Hendrix, Stones and Beatles Fraud
(Classic Rock) Los Angeles based musician Marino De Silva has been jailed for up to eight years after admitting to a multi-million dollar fraud in which he scammed investors out of money for albums that weren't what he'd promised they would be.

The Hull, UK-born guitarist told people he was producing rare and valuable unheard material from Jimi Hendrix, the Rolling Stones and the Beatles.

De Silva, who described himself as an "international multi-platinum award-winning guitarist," claimed he'd won a Grammy and said he was a close friend of Keith Richards, also produced charity CDs – but didn't pass the promised cash onto the charities.

But once they'd handed over their cheques, many found it impossible to discover what was happening with their money. And some of those who heard the results of De Silva's work were furious at its poor quality. more on this story

The Man Who Walked Away From Replacing Jim Morrison in The Doors
Imagine that The Doors were interested in hiring you to replace Jim Morrison soon after his death and as you were about to meet the band members in the recording studio but you turned around and walked away from the opportunity. That's just what happened to P.J. Proby.

Finding Zoso recently conducted an extensive interview with P.J. Proby who recalls his experiences with The Beatles, The Who, Elvis, John Lennon and even having Led Zeppelin as his backing band. During the exchange, Proby confirms the rumor that he was approached to fill Morrison's shoes in The Doors. Here is what he had to say:

"Yeah I was asked to do that. I got as far as the recording studio. I was to meet everybody down in the recording studio and luckily the red light was on which meant don't enter, they're recording. In the time it took for the red light to go out, I realized that I could never ever fill Jim Morrison's shoes. I could never do a show where I go out there and pull my doo-da out or take my pants off onstage.

"I know I already had the reputation for being wild over here with the ripped pants and everything, but Morrison went all the way and I couldn't do that. So what I did was when the red light went out I thought to myself, 'You can never replace that son of a gun,' and I got in my car and drove off."

Metallica Guitarist Launching Book Tour
(hennemusic) Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett's new book, "Too Much Horror Business," will be published on October 1 and he has announced a series of book-signing events to help launch the project.

Documenting Kirk's love of all things horror, and the legendary collection of horror memorabilia he has amassed over the years, "Too Much Horror Business" is a 228 page, hardback, large format coffee table book featuring well over 300 full color images from Kirk's private collection and exclusive set photography by Mark Leialoha and Joe Gibbs.

"This is my gift to all the other horror nerds out there who are just like me," says Kirk. "It's been made with great love for all the many characters and movies which guided me through childhood, into adulthood and which still keep me on track today." See the book tour dates here.

New Order Plan New Material
(Gibson) New Order will begin work on new material in early 2013, although probably not with original bass player Peter Hook, who is still engaged in a legal battle with the band over the use of the name.

New Order vocalist/guitarist Bernard Sumner tells BBC 6Music that the band will meet after Christmas to discuss exactly what for their new material might take. "We've not decided yet, but from what we've seen from traveling around the world is that people want to hear some new stuff," Sumner says. "Speaking to journalists and speaking to fans, they seem to really want to hear some new stuff. We won't play live as much next year, maybe half the amount we've done this year, and we'll write some new stuff."

The current New Order line-up includes original keyboard player Gillian Gilbert (who left the band in 2001 and rejoined last year) and bass player Tom Chapman from Sumner's recent project Bad Lieutenant. more on this story

Lamb of God Frontman's Dramatic Arrest
(Classic Rock) Lamb of God drummer Chris Adler has described the moment they realised they were in trouble as Randy Blythe was dramatically arrested for manslaughter.

The vocalist spent five weeks in jail in Prague after the band flew in for a tour date, without having been warned they were suspected of involvement in the death of fan Daniel Nosek in 2010.

"An officer explained in broken English that they were investigating a homicide. We'd been flying around the world for the last five and a half weeks – maybe something happened at one of these festivals, and they're talking to all of the bands, or someone we know might be in trouble? We never thought they were investigating us," Adler tellsMetal Insider. "Then they hand us all a piece of paper that explains in broken English about the situation that happened in 2010. They said they needed us all for interrogation, but they're taking Randy with them now. That's when it hit us. No one had heard anything about this, and with the SWAT team standing around us there was nothing we could do about it. more on this story

Now, Wilson has penned a note to fans reacting to this, and more importantly, revealing hereditary back problems and recent surgery.

Sammy Hagar Day Video Goes Online
(hennemusic) The northern California town of Roseville celebrated Sammy Hagar Day on Saturday (9/15/12).

Hagar was on hand for the event, which also included the opening of his new restaurant, Sammy Hagar's Rockin' Island Bar and Grill. "The downtown.. it's got a historical feeling to it and it's got soul," explained Sammy. "I walk into so many cities that have torn the old town down and built brand new condos, and it's soulless. It's all generic-feeling stuff. And this place has a feeling and a vibe I thought we'll put this island right in the middle of it and keep this community alive."

"That's my goal," sums up Hagar, "is to keep this community right here in downtown Roseville - the old town with the trains and all that stuff - to preserve it. That's really the coolest thing about it." Read more and check out video here.

Collaborator Recalls Jon Lord's Final Solo
(Classic Rock) Jon Lord collaborator Paul Mann has recalled the emotional moments when the late Deep Purple keyboardist tracked his final solo.

They were working on the new recording of Lord's Concerto for Group and Orchestra, which will be released as planned next month, despite his sudden death in July.

Mann remembers how he spent a day in Abbey Road Studios working closely with Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson, one of the guest artists on the album, because Lord was too ill to join in.

"We came in to do the session with Bruce and the hope was Jon would put on an organ solo towards the end of the day. I'd made the decision I wasn't going to push him to do anything – if he was well enough he'd do it, and we'd just see what happened," The conductor says. "I ended up working closely with Bruce because Jon was not feeling well during the afternoon. He was resting and he left me to teach the part to Bruce. We had a great time working on all that.

"Towards the end of the afternoon Jon re-emerged..." find out what happened next.

B Sides

Singled Out: The Luxury
Today Jason Dunn from The Luxury tells us about the title track of their brand new album "Why Don't You Cry Anymore (Like You Used To)?" which has drawn comparisons to the sound of Oasis, The Smiths and The Cure. Here is the story:

A lot of the songs I've written have a sort of feel-good melody and rhythm with just absolutely dour and depressing lyrics, or sarcasm floating under the surface of something genuine. In this one, I was trying to marry the two.

I'd been with someone off and on for a good six years, and as luck would have it I finally hit the epiphany wall and realized she could possibly be the ONE, just a few short months after she finally gave up on me. So there was a massive blender of conflicting emotions in my own head, coming to grips with all the things I'd said and done over the years, trying to reconcile what a bastard I'd been with how much I wanted it to work out in the end.

I was a mess, and I wound up making a fool of myself, being way too intense, trying to find a balance between properly saying all the things I never really said and being an over-the-top, gushing disaster. So the song came from the two voices in my head, one believing that we were "too big and too good to fail", and the other feeling resigned that we were "guided by the great, gaping hole in our sails" - we were destined to crash regardless of how beautiful we were supposed to be together in my own mind.

The bridge, or middle bit, was a sort of acknowledgement that no matter how private one would hope this would be, there were plenty of people watching, taking sides, offering sage advice with no end game ("everyone's an expert and nobody knows"). And the chorus is just a sort of self-rebuking, sarcastic refrain - whining for someone to show some real emotion but knowing damn well that it's everything you've said and done that made them shut down on you.

All that said, it's probably the bounciest, happiest-sounding thing I've ever written.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!

Rare 1977 Sex Pistols Video Clip Goes Online
(hennemusic) The Sex Pistols have revealed a previously unseen live performance video of "Holidays In The Sun" from 1977.

NME reports the footage was shot during a gig in Penzance, Cornwall in September 1977 - the month before "Holidays In The Sun" was released as the fourth single from the band's debut album "Never Mind The Bollocks."

"The performance was shot using one camera and shows the extraordinary captivating quality of the band at the time," said director Julian Temple, explaining the origins of the video. "There was shock in the room, it was hypnotizing, contagious, and unfolded right in front of you. It was filmed in Penzance in September 1977, the Pistols arrived unannounced and the audience couldn't believe what they were getting." Read more and watch it here.

Aerosmith Release 2nd Behind The Scenes Video For New Album
(hennemusic) Aerosmith recently launched a new 8-part series called "The Making Of Music From Another Dimension."

The footage presents a behind-the-scenes look as the Boston rockers create their first new album in more than a decade.

Due November 6, "Music From Another Dimension" is the Boston band's 15th studio album. The project was recorded in Los Angeles and at the band's studio in Massachusetts; it was produced by Jack Douglas, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, with the exception of three tracks produced by Tyler and Marti Frederiksen.

In episode two of the new series, drummer Joey Kramer explains how the band shifted gears and changed up their songwriting process. "Working in the conference room together at Vindaloo was where we kinda put songs together arrangement-wise and learned them," says Kramer, "instead of everybody being in the studio diddling, making noises by themselves."
