"So it's like, you kind of miss each other after a while and you, one guy makes the first move, then another starts making phone calls... this is a juggernaut, man. System of a Down is my lifeline. It'll never go away. We could not make a record for 10 years that's not gonna happen, but I'm just saying we could and we'll come back strong." more on this story

The Compulsions are a new supergroup led by founder and frontman Rob Carlyle with Richard Fortus (Guns N' Roses) on guitar, Sami Yaffa (Michael Monroe Band, New York Dolls) on bass and Frank Ferrer (Guns N' Roses) on drums. According to Carlyle: "When we played in early January, it'd been over a year since we were on stage together and with our schedules we could only rehearse once the night before. But there's something about the four of us because no matter how long it's been, whenever we get in the same room, the music just comes together instantly." A full length Compulsions album titled Beat The Devil is also in the works with a very special guest appearance by guitar legend Hubert Sumlin (Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf). "There's a lot of new Compulsions fans lately and I'm happy to say they've been really getting into it. For starters, one couple drove 5 hours from New Hampshire through the ice and snow to see us play and a couple girls flew in from Sweden. So we're gonna put out a new record as soon as possible and hopefully keep the momentum going." adds Carlyle. The Compulsions have released a fan filmed live video for "Big, Fat, Sexy Mama" . Today Drew Holcomb from Drew Holcomb And The Neighbors tells us about "Fire & Dynamite" from their brand new album "Chasing Someday". Here is the story:The woman you love can drive you crazy. They are unpredictable, stop in you in tracks, make you wish you knew more about them. The best love songs revolve around a lyric that puts flesh on this idea. I had the lyric, "You are a novel in a sea of magazines" floating around in my head for weeks. Magazines you flip through, you have briefly, then you throw them away. A novel you savor, you relish, you stay up at night thinking about. You might even re-read it and every time you find more complexities and nuances and character details that make you fall more in love with the story. A novel takes time, requires commitment. You don't just read a novel in a day. It surprises you, makes you lose your mind trying to know where the narrative is headed. A romantic love worth holding on to is like a novel, not a magazine. It's Steinbeck's East of Eden versus People magazine October 1989. Who remembers People Magazine October 1989? No one except the celebrity who made the cover. Who remembers East of Eden? Everyone who ever read it! This feeling doesn't just apply to romance, it applies to every meaningful human interaction. We are all novels, in the process of being authored, by ourselves, by fate, by God, by community, by suffering, by happiness, and all the other experiences that drive our history. I wanted to write a song that has this mysterious joy to it. I wanted big drums, loud guitars, unadulterated shouting, and an ernest heart, that says, "yes, we all matter," especially that girl or boy you keeping thinking about every 15 minutes. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album more on this story

(Metal Sucks) Just days after it was announced that he is the new guitar player for Six Feet Under, Chimaira's Rob Arnold has spoken exclusively with MetalSucks about how he came to join that band, the new material they're working on, their touring plans, and reuniting with ex-Chimaira drummer Kevin Talley, who has also joined SFU. Additionally, he provided an update on the new, still-to-be-titled Chimaira album, which is scheduled for release later this year. An excerpt from the interview follows:How long have you been working with Six Feet Under? How did the collaboration come about? One day after a Chimaira/SFU show back in '05, Barnes said to me, "Rob man
we gotta do something together
Me, you, and Talley! I want to do some fast s*** again!" Just him saying that to me was as good as actually doing it. Even if we never even got together to strike a single note, I could be satisfied knowing that Chris f***ing Barnes asked me to play music with him. The Bleeding [Barnes' final album with Cannibal Corpse] is my second favorite album of all time (after
And Justice For All, if anyone is interested), and [Six Feet Under's debut album] Haunted is in my top ten. And so I think for ANY musician out there, having a guy from two of your top ten albums of all time ask you to make music with him is definitely something very special and unique. Anyway, for years, nothing ever really came of it. In the music business, everything takes longer than you're expecting. But this past December I got a text from Chris letting me know that he hadn't forgotten about me and was wondering if I'd be into collaborating on the new SFU record. I guess he thought that maybe I could be a great addition to his band. He knows how big of a fan I am, and saw me on the side of the stage every night of that '05 tour jamming my balls off during SFU's set. I think he was looking for just a little something or someone to spice things up a bit, or just a different perspective on things. In these times, I think you've got to constantly be evolving and trying new things. Much easier said than done I know, but the guy certainly deserves credit for trying. You can either be proactive in life, or sit around and let it pass you by. Obviously you can see what road we're taking. And I'd also like to mention the other guys from SFU, Terry [Butler], Greg [Gall], and Steve [Swanson]
I love those guys and had a great time with them on tour and each time we've hung since. Of course, I now feel this massive burden that my entrance into the mix may have had something to do with Greg and Terry's departure. Whether that be the case or not, I want them to know that I never had even the slightest ill intention, and innocently stepped into a once in a lifetime opportunity. I really hope we're still cool and wish those guys the absolute best luck. And Steve, I'm really looking forward to jamming with you brother. Read the full interview here

(Gibson) Between his new solo album, Give the Drummer Some, and a Blink-182 reunion album, Travis Barker has a pretty busy year ahead of him. But, for a while, he wasn't sure he'd ever play again. Barker was seriously injured in a 2008 small plane crash and the drummer recently told RollingStone.com that very few people knew how badly he was hurt."For a while after my accident, I was just recovering," he said. "No one really thought I would be able to play drums after all the surgeries and everything. That was always on my mind. Once I was in the studio, it was like, 'I can walk now, I can play the drums still. I have to finish [the solo album].'" Barker's recovery included 16 surgeries and he almost had one of his feet amputated. He also said his left hand was completely numb for a while. "It was sketchy, so I came a long way. And mentally I was a basket case," he said. "It was a big amount of time to get off of 20 medications that they had me on, and then physically getting in shape. It was heavy." more on this story

(Gibson) With Beatlemania running rampant in both Britain and America and spreading rapidly to other countries, The Beatles were riding high in early 1964. Having scored a couple of #1 albums and an armload of #1 singles, the Fab Four had properly conquered the music world and were set to make their mark in another medium. On this day in 1964, The Beatles began filming A Hard Day's Night.Although John, Paul, George and Ringo had become huge pop stars, the movie didn't have a lavish budget. Shot in black-and-white, A Hard Day's Night was made for the relatively small sum of £200,000 (around $500,000). Both the writer and the director of the film had been selected because The Beatles had been fans of their previous work. Director Richard Lester had made The Running Jumping & Standing Still Film with Spike Milligan and Peter Sellers each of whom the boys loved. Meanwhile, writer Alun Owen had proven he could pen his share of Liverpudlian dialog in his play No Trams to Lime Street. To get a sense for how Lennon, McCartney and the guys talked to each other and to outsiders, Owen spent a few days with The Beatles as they sprinted through their busy schedule. He described the experience as "a train and a room and a car and a room and a room and a room," a line that would make it into the screenplay. McCartney would later praise Owen's work: "Alun hung around with us and was careful to try and put words in our mouths that he might've heard us speak, so I thought he did a very good script." more on this story

(Gibson) When Metallica came roaring out of James Hetfield's and Lars Ulrich's imaginations 30 years ago, the band was a furious fusion of new-metal clangor, punk speed and pure noise-rock firestorm intensity. Albums like 1983's Kill 'Em All and the next year's Ride the Lightning set the bar for might and bite in a way that's rarely been equaled over ensuing decades. The apocalyptic visions of songs like "The Four Horsemen," written by original lead guitarist Dave Mustaine, the violence rippling to the surface of "Seek and Destroy" and the hellfire of war depicted in "For Whom the Bell Tolls" were a perfect, bloody-knuckled pairing of lyrics plucked from the heart of human darkness and the angriest tones that could possibly be torn from Gibson Flying Vs, Gibson Explorers and Gibson Les Pauls pumping electric blood through stacks of Marshall amps. Much was made of the group's melodic approach to metallic wailing during Metallica's first decade and initial four albums especially after six-string wrangler Kirk Hammett replaced Mustaine. And Hammett's and Hetfield's routes to melody were, indeed, worth noting, even if critics and fans exaggerated the strength of their content. Hetfield tended to play short, boldly written melodies that served as musical transitions. Hammett was more of a sprayer, thanks to his astounding chops inspired in part by his one-time instructor Joe Satriani. Hammett's melodies in first-decade Metallica numbers like "Master of Puppets" and their mainstream breakthrough "One," from 1988's
And Justice For All, were largely woven into breathless and often chromatic solos with churning waves of wah-wah. Frequently they were discernable only in snatches, or, really, appeared as chains of melodic ideas strung together to make a series of seconds-long statements instead of relaxing into the sing-able patterns that conventionally comprise melodies. But being unconventional, for Metallica and their fans, worked without equivocation. And their gnashing, wall-smashing sound including the high-velocity blur of their lead guitar lines made them instantly identifiable as well as an awesome ensemble every aspiring metal gunslinger had to face. In 1991, however, the band's strategy changed.
