(Gibson) Slipknot singer Corey Taylor has revealed that the songs on Slipknot's first album were mostly written in the bathroom of a pornography store. The frontman told The Guardian that he used his time at the shop to inspire the band's early stuff."The lyrics for the first Slipknot album were written in the bathroom, while I was working 9 a.m. 'til 8 p.m. at a porn shop," he said. "I would always have my notebook and pen, and for some reason, every time I'd go to the bathroom I'd start writing something great." Porn wasn't the only inspiration. (Gibson) Vivian Campbell spoke to Rush on Rock about his lifelong love of Thin Lizzy, as well as what's in store for Def Leppard. He also touched on the passing of the man who gave him his first big break, Ronnie James Dio.On joining Thin Lizzy for their European tour, which will also see the band supporting Paul Rodgers: "I remember thinking what an exciting opportunity this was for me. As a guitarist, their music has always been such a huge part of my life. I'm entirely self-taught and taught myself a lot of Lizzy songs. It's very exciting to be in this position." On what's in store for Def Leppard in 2011: "We have a live record coming out in 2011, and we're looking at attaching two, three or four new songs to that album when it comes out. There are also plans for a career-encompassing box set. Leppard will be back this summer, and we'll be touring North America and Canada." On the passing of Ronnie James Dio: "You know, I was numb to the whole thing. I hadn't talked to Ronnie in 25 years, so it wasn't as if we were close. My mother died nine or 10 days before him… And my father died nine months before that. It was a really tough year on a personal level, and I had enough to think about. The news about Ronnie James Dio just bounced off me." Vivian went on to say, "It was a difficult relationship on a personal level anyway. I was really proud of the music we made together, but it was tough being in a band together. But he died way too young." more on this story

Today Kat Perkins of Scarlet Haze tells us about their brand new single "Reach Down" which features Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal from Guns N Roses on guitar. The track comes from their forthcoming album "One Bad Bitch". Here is the story: Sex. That word alone catches people's attention. For some, it makes their skin crawl. For others, it makes them blush, or in the best case, gets them instantly intrigued. What a perfect topic to write and sing about, right? In all the above scenarios, the topic of sex sparks an emotion. In "Reach Down" I am talking about safe sex, fantasy, and my imagination. Males and females alike will connect with this song even if they are too embarrassed to otherwise open up about this topic with their friends! The tempo and rhythm of the lyrics to this song are fantastically exhausting and it gets your heart pumping by the end! My guest guitarist, Ron Thal of Guns N' Roses, shapes this song with a sort of call and response with my voice and of course, his solo takes the listener to a whole different kind of exciting climax. Ron has a very special touch that musically completes this song in so many ways. All in all, I love the way this song is intended to take you on a sexual journey, and hopefully makes you feel that 'flying solo' some days or nights is not a crime. It can also be extremely safe, fun, exciting, and empowering! If I've learned anything about being an artist, it's that the subject matter of a song can take it to a whole new level. Add some rockin' melodies and a ripping guitar solo, and you have yourself a damn cool tune to put out there. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!

The Daily Express reports the band are worried that the powerful lasers they use on stage could one day blind them."We got some big white balloons, threw them into the audience and decided to focus the lasers on them. It was like a slow burn that gradually disintegrated them into nothing. We all thought, 'What the hell will our corneas be like in 20 years?'" drummer Dominic Howard said. On this day in 1968, Johnny Cash played a show, which was recorded for his forthcoming live album, at Folsom Prison, near Sacramento, California in front of 2,000 inmates. Gibson takes a look back: Johnny Cash had his share of troubles and vices in his lifetime, but he never did prison time. Despite this, nobody in music history is more associated with the clink than the Man in Black. It's interesting that Cash is much more tied to the struggles and frustrations of prison life than the legions of pop, rock and country music stars who have actually had to serve a sentence. The legendary country singer first learned of prison life – particularly, life in Folsom State Prison – through the movies. He was a member of the U.S. Air Force Security Service in 1953, when his unit watched the film Inside the Walls of Folsom Prison. It was that movie that inspired Cash to write one of his early songs, "Folsom Prison Blues," in which he imagined what a prisoner felt like. After signing with Sun Records, "Folsom Prison Blues" became Cash's second single – a #1 country hit and a Top 40 pop hit in 1955. Although Cash had never been in prison, he apparently captured the feeling of being incarcerated perfectly. The song became very popular with those doing time, who wrote letters to the country star thanking him for writing the tune and sometimes asking him to come perform at their prisons. By 1957, he obliged some inmates, by performing at Huntsville State Prison. The event went over so well that Cash continued this practice, playing concerts at prisons around the U.S. He had the idea for recording a live album at one such show, although the proposal was rejected by the country executives at Columbia Records. more on this story

(Gibson) Liam Gallagher, rock star and fashion entrepreneur was in Glasgow, Scotland, this week for the opening of a new Pretty Green clothing store. The Herald Scotland newspaper discovered that Gallagher feels a kinship with Glasgow."I'm into Scotland in general; the people don't take themselves too seriously. We were always going to open a shop in Glasgow, it makes sense," he said. "The connection goes back a long way with McGee and King Tut's for the Barrowlands gigs and all that, but it's the people. "It's the same as Manchester: it's a great football city, the people are into proper clothes and music, which is what it's all about. All of those things connect with me. It's the same with the gigs; the fans bring something to the table. After Oasis split, things could have got bitter. I'm not about sitting around doing that and Pretty Green kept me in touch with people." more on this story
