Devon Townsend worked at a U.S. national security laboratory in New Mexico, where she used a computer to track Bennington. Alice in Chains Starr Drug Arrest

(Rock News Desk) Former Alice in Chains bassist Mike Starr has been jailed for drug possession after trying the "Do you know who I am?" defence on arresting officers.

Police in Salt Lake City, Utah, pulled over the van he was travelling in after it crossed a central reservation. One officer reported seeing Starr popping pills as he approached the vehicle. When questioned Starr said: "Hey, officer, have you heard of Alice in Chains? I used to be the bass guitarist. We're putting together a new band."

He was found to be in possession of twelve pills – six opioid analgesics and six anxiety controllers – without prescriptions. The name on the prescription label of a bottle had been scratched off. more on this story

Vince Neil Not Eating Or Sleeping in Jail

(Rock News Desk) Vince Neil isn't eating or sleeping properly in jail, says his concerned girlfriend - because he's taking on extra work shifts in the hope of getting out early for good behaviour.

The Motley Crue singer started a 15-day prison sentence last Tuesday following a drunk-driving conviction in Las Vegas. That followed his jail time in 1984 for killing Hanoi Rocks drummer Razzle Dingley while driving under the influence.

Now his other half, TV reported Alicia Jacobs, says she's worried about his lifestyle – although Neil says things are going reasonably well behind bars. more on this story

Now Duff Confirms Corey Taylor Velvet Revolver Rumor

(hennemusic) Well, Slash has done it, so Duff might as well, too. In a new interview with the Artisan News Service, Duff played a little coy on the subject, saying, "We'll see."

Duff then went on to explain further. "Here's the deal: Because of Twitter and other web sites over the last, whatever, eight years, especially in the last [couple of years], you can't say anything; it's instant. And somebody will tweet something and then people will read it, and then, all of a sudden, we're talking about this. So I understand it, I've been part of it."

Iron Maiden Could Care Less About Grammy Win

(Rock News Desk) Bruce Dickinson says Iron Maiden couldn't care less about winning a Grammy Award last week and they're more excited about having just played in Indonesia for the first time.

The singer, who's flying the band round the world on their Final Frontier tour, maintains they'll never listen to industry peer groups and are only interested in what their audience has to say.

Asked if the band threw a party to mark their win, Dickinson tells Rolling Stone: "Good God, no. We did have a bit of a party when we got an Ivor Novello award. That was quite nice because it's for songwriting and it's awarded by a songwriters' society. So that was cool. more on this story

Band Vs United States Political Correctness Office

Political Correctness shows its silly head once again with this news we received from The Slants camp:

The Slants' trademark application for their name, "The Slants" has been rejected by the United States Patent and Trademark Office on the grounds that the term is deemed to be disparaging to persons of Asian descent and not sufficiently embraced by the Asian Pacific Islander (API) community. The dispute began last year and now the band is preparing for an appeal of the decision.

The decision was reached by the Trademark Office despite evidence filed by the band's attorney, which included numerous articles by the Asian American media supporting The Slants, the band's involvement with dozens of API cultural festivals and non-profit organizations, and legal declarations from several well-respected leaders of the API community. more on this story

AC/DC Taking The Year Off

(Rock News Desk) AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson says that despite what some people may think, touring the world for two years is hard work – and that's why the band aren't making any plans for the future.

The Aussie giants are set to release a live DVD in the coming weeks, but asides from that Johnson's looking forward to taking the rest of the year off and indulging his hobby of driving classic cars at race meetings.

The band's status may endure turmoil after drummer Phil Rudd was found guilty of drug possession last year, because many of the places they play won't allow people with such convictions to enter the country. more on this story

Bret Michaels Rock 'n' Roll Marathon

Bret Michaels is joining forces with Competitor Group at four Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series events in 2011, beginning Sunday, March 27 at the Rock 'n' Roll Dallas Half Marathon benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

"This is the perfect marriage of running and post race entertainment," said Scott Dickey, President of Competitor Group, which owns the series. "Never in the 14-year history of the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series has there been a finish line concert that generated more excitement and as much enthusiasm as Bret Michaels did in Las Vegas. The energy was amazing and after 26.2 or 13.1 miles, to see thousands of runners jumping up and down with their arms in the air was an incredible experience we can't wait to replicate."

Famous for lining race routes with live bands and cheerleaders, the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series events are synonymous with massive participant numbers and lively post race concerts. The Dallas event kicks off the four-concert tour headlined by Michaels, along with post-race shows scheduled for Philadelphia (Sept. 18), Los Angeles (Oct. 30) and one other event to be announced at a future date. more on this story

Early Deep Cuts From Queen in March

(hennemusic) Queen release the album "Deep Cuts Volume One 1973-1976" on March 14, a collection of hidden gems from the band's first five albums, specially chosen by Roger Taylor and Brian May in consultation with life-long fan, Taylor Hawkins from the Foo Fighters.

"Deep Cuts Volume One" is designed as a companion piece to the first five Queen albums, which are being re-issued by Island Records on March 14 as part of the band's 40th anniversary celebrations.

Smashing Pumpkins New Bassist Was One of the Siamese Dream Cover Girls

(Gibson) Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has revealed that the band's current bassist is also one of the two girls pictured on the cover of their album, Siamese Dream. While it is not uncommon for band members to appear on the covers of their albums, it is strange when it happens more than a decade before they join the band.

Nicole Fiorentino, now 31, was about 13 when Siamese Dream came out in 1993, according to NME.com. Although she became a member of the Pumpkins last year, she just told Corgan of her cover girl past.

"Just found out the weirdest news: our bass player Nicole just admitted she is one of the girls on the cover of 'Siamese Dream,'" Corgan posted on his Twitter account. He said that Fiorentino didn't reveal her history because "she thought maybe we wouldn't let her be in the band." more on this story

Today we have a treat for fans of classic style punk as Occult Detective Club's frontman Alx Anguiano tells us about "C'mon Levi" from their brand new album "Crimes". Here is the story:

I wrote "C'mon Levi" shortly after my sister Mia had her first son. I know personally how easy it is to look around and feel discouraged and maybe even like the task at hand is insurmountable -- whatever that task may be -- but then there are those brief moments of excitement/motivation that come like bolts of lightening and that's really what the song is about. Typically I'll write vaguely enough so that anyone could apply their specific situation to any particular song, but with "C'mon Levi" I decided to eschew the anonymity I'm more comfortable with in favor of a direct approach.

I'm also talking about that feeling like your clocks run down and now there are certain things you can't get away with anymore -- socially, politically, or personally and how, in my opinion, a critical aspect of "maturing" is the ability to pass that torch without regret. Needless to say, I've got a lot of growing up left to do.

Queens of the Stone Age Early Songs Inspiring New Album

(Gibson) Josh Homme has said playing the first Queens of the Stone Age album in concert has inspired much of the band's recent recording work. The singer-guitarist said that QOTSA's 1998 debut, which is being re-released on March 1, reminded him of what he loves to do.

"We had these obligations because I was re-releasing the first record, going to Australia and doing some other stuff," he told Exclaim.ca. "And we started trying to play the first record note-perfect. And, honestly, that started to re-inspire me. It just took me back for a second where I had a chance to remember where I was when I first started doing this."

The band recently announced a short U.S. tour, beginning March 18. But fans shouldn't expect QOTSA's live dates to hinder their recording process. "We've already started to write," Homme said. "The first record rehearsals are starting to sort of be like gravy over the top of what we're doing. It's sort of permeating what we're doing now." more on this story

Vivian Campbell Hopes For The Return of the Man He Replaced in Thin Lizzy

(Rock News Desk) Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell says he'd bow out of Thin Lizzy if classic-era member Brian Robertson wanted to come back.

Campbell knows he can't stay with Phil Lynott's reactivated legacy outfit permanently, and hopes that when the time comes for him to leave, it'll be because Robbo is returning to the fold.

"The future is a grey area. I'd like to be able to continue with the band, tour as much as possible and get into the studio in the future, but it's really difficult to predict," Campbell tells BraveWords. "Obviously I have an allegiance to Def Leppard, and that's my priority. Leppard is touring the US this summer and we're trying to book Lizzy dates around the availability. But Lizzy has to continue as an entity without me, so at some stage someone else is going to have to step in. more on this story

Columbia Records sent over word that The Avett Brothers Grammy performance with Bob Dylan and Mumford & Sons has their album I and Love and You shooting back up the charts.

Originally released in late 2009, I and Love and You is enjoying a second round of success following the Avett Brother's performance of their hit song "Head Full of Doubt, Road Full of Promise" on last week's Grammy Awards.

This year marked the highest viewership for the Grammy Awards, helping the Avett Brothers sell an impressive 23,000 singles within 48 hours of the show's broadcas more on this story

Red Hot Chili Peppers Rejuvenated Without Frusciante

(Rock News Desk) Singer Anthony Kiedis says the Red Hot Chili Peppers have recovered from the impact of guitarist John Frusciante refusing to return after their two-year hiatus and their music is rejuvenated because of the change.

RHCP Touring musician Josh Klinghoffer replaced Frusciante when the four-piece gathered at the end of 2009 to start work on the follow-up to 2006 record Stadium Arcadium. And Kiedies insists they're sounding better than ever now they've dealt with the adjustment of musical direction.

"It's always going to change the chemistry and feeling of the music when such a creative force as John leaves," He tells Spin. "He was something unique that shaped our sound then. But it's fresh and exciting to have a new, incredible musical mind working with us. We're still the Red Hot Chili Peppers but we have to adapt and welcome new opportunities. Decrepit Birth Explain Canceled Dates

Decrepit Birth drummer Samus Paulicelli explained why the band is missing the first two weeks of the "Spread The Venom Tour" with Kataklysm and All Shall Perish.

The band was forced to sit out the first ten dates because Samus could not leave the state of New Jersey for legal reasons as he explains in his audio blog. The band will join the tour on March 7th in San Francisco, CA.

In his audio blog, Samus also revealed that he and guitarist Matt will be recording a new video that they will be posting in the near future. Listen here

Iron Maiden In The Studio

Jake Brown is taking readers back into the studio this May. This time around he's taking you "In The Studio" with heavy metal legends Iron Maiden. Here is the publisher's description:

Iggy Pop 4 CD Bootleg Collection Coming

Shout! Factory will release a comprehensive live 4-CD set of newly remastered bootleg tracks by Iggy Pop, titled Roadkill Rising: The Bootleg Collection 1977–2009, on May 17th.

Sequenced by decade, the set focuses on key songs by The Stooges and tracks culled from Pop's extensive solo catalog, including his hits and an array of covers.

This collection is a part of a series of "official" bootleg releases by Shout! Factory, with the blessing and participation of artists who can now exact a measure of quality control to provide fans with only the best performances, highest quality recordings, and superior packaging with photos and original illustrations. Red Explain New Album Theme

TheCelebrityCafe.com recently caught up with Red's Joe Rickard to discuss their new album, Until We Have Faces. In this excerpt Joe talks about the theme of the album:

It's called Until We Have Faces, and it's just about trying to find your true identity. Everybody kind of struggles with that growing up. You don't know who you want to be, especially when you're like 17. And you kind of what to go to college, but you don't know where you want to go or what you want to do with your life. Or if you're just in high school and you don't know who you are, if you're a loner or something like that, you just can't figure out what kind of person you are. Nobody really finds out who they are until they get a lot older. Basically all the songs are about finding your identity. For example, the song "Feed the Machine" was actually my idea content-wise. I thought it'd be cool to write about this crazy machine that the world is. Basically everybody buys everything, everybody wants to have a Mercedes, crazy things like that. Like you have to look a certain way, eat a certain way, and nobody really has their own identity. And they all just kind of give into this machine. That's basically what that song is about, and it kicks the record off.

The second track is called "Faceless." It talks about how we're all just kind of hollow inside, we don't have faces. We are anybody, just zombies basically walking around. And we just want everybody to find out who they are, just be themselves. Don't give into the world. Be who you want to be. It's kind of an anthem for everybody. Everybody can relate this. That's the cool thing, we want to reach anybody. It doesn't matter who they are – if they're 8-years-old or 72. If they're black, white, Asian, it doesn't matter, they can all relate in finding out who they are.

A digital version of the album will be available March 8th to coincide with the March 7th UK release (Fiction).

KISS Rules Out Another Reunion

(Rock AAA) You have to know that there are KISS fans out there who would love to see a second reunion of the original lineup: they may be fans who were there during the band's 1970s launch and heyday; fans who saw the first reunion when the band did its "farewell" (ahem) tour in 2000; and, in fact, there's probably new KISS fans who missed all of the above.

With Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley clearly steering the KISS ship, even through its roughest waters, issues with former original bandmates Ace Frehley and Peter Criss are a thing of the past.

Stanley was a guest on CNN's Connect The World With Becky Anderson on Wednesday, and while taking questions from fans, was asked about the possibility of a second original KISS reunion. "I think one was enough," said Stanley. "When we did it, we did it for the right reasons. It was interesting because the word that comes up is 'closure.' You get a chance to go back and revisit relationships and see if they've changed at all. For the most part, sadly, you find that they remain as they were." more on this story

Noah and the Whale To Deliver the Last Night On Earth in March

Mercury Records have set a March 15th release date for Noah and the Whale's third album, Last Night On Earth.

The band's first album since 2009 will feature ten brand new tracks, including the first single "L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N."

Lead singer Charlie Fink set to work on the album in January of 2010, holed up in a synagogue in East London. Beginning with a few melodic fragments, a sketch for a 10-minute song that resembled Lou Reed's classic "Street Hassle," and a set of lyrics that were begun on a train from Wales to London, something special eventually came into focus, something markedly different from the songs the band had written before. more on this story

Within The Ruins Not Allowed To Invade Canada

Victory Records had this bad news for Canadian fans: Within The Ruins announces they are forced to cancel their involvement in the "No Mercy Canadian Invasion Tour".

The band released an official statement:"We were denied entry into Canada this morning, and as a result, we will regrettably not be able to continue on the tour with Suffokate, The Contortionist and Last Chance to Reason.

"We are all very sorry, but this was completely out of our control. We hope that you go out and continue to support the tour with these amazing bands. We will be back as soon as we can!" more on this story

Senses Fail Get Animated For The Fire

Senses Fail have release a brand new animated video for the title track from their latest album The Fire.

The clip was directed by Richard Borge and can be seen on Senses Fail's Facebook page here

The band is currently supporting the release with a tour of the UK (see current dates below) and will hit the road in the US from March 10 through April 10 for a headline run dubbed The PMA Tour. The Ghost Inside, Man Overboard and Transit will join Senses Fail for the trek. more on this story

Lacuna Coil Aim New Album Sound Towards Rock Not Metal

(Rock AAA) Lacuna Coil are scheduled to enter the studio "soon" to record a follow up to 2009's Shallow Life. In a video recorded for, and posted on, the bands fan site emptyspiral.net, Christina Scabbia hinted that the new material was ready to go and that the album would be released later this year, and in a recent interview with Kerrang! she talked of the band's evolution:

"We learned so much from making "Shallow Life" and working with a different producer [Don Gilmore; Linkin Park, Bullet For My Valentine] gave us a great starting point for this record. We want to bring everything we have to the table and just explore that. We're more inspired by the dark side of life than anything else right now, and I'm pretty sure the new album will be darker and heavier because of that.

"It's still a rock sound. I like the direction we took on 'Shallow Life' and this is going to be in that vein. I still love metal to death, but at this point I like rock more. I like being able to bring different things that are not necessarily from metal to the album because I like the contamination between sounds. I like that music is always evolving and that you can be free to take sounds and mix them together." more on this story

The Elected Set New Album Release

Vagrant Records have set a May 17th release date for The Elected's new album, Bury Me In My Rings.

The effort was produced and recorded by frontman Blake Sennett (Rilo Kiley guitarist/co-songwriter)with help from Jason Cupp and longtime Elected contributor Mike Bloom.

"I played most of the instruments myself, so it was easier to erase stuff without hurting anyone's feelings," Blake comments. "This time I just thought, better take it as far as I can alone...then bring in my friends to fill in the blanks." more on this story

Mars Attacks Hades

(PR) The latest episode of Mars Attacks Podcast features interviews with Hades guitarists Dan Lorenzo and Scott LePage. The first half of the episode contains an interview with Scott in which he touches on his new band The Freeze Tag Assassins, his blues playing and the Hades reunion (among other things).

During the Dan Lorenzo segment, he discusses not only the Hades show, but being featured in Moshed Potatoes, the soon to be released Hades and Non-Fiction split DVD, the possibility of there being new music from either band, and the current status of The Cursed which features Blitz from Overkill, and Scream Metal the cover band he shares with Alan Tecchio (also of Hades and Non-Fiction) and Mark Strigl, and John Ostronomy of Talking Metal fame.

Dan not being one to mix words has some interesting comments regarding the Big 4, and alludes to the fact that Hades was playing a certain cover well in advance of another New York Tri-state area band. Check it out here

Wednesday 13 Proud of Alice Cooper's Rock Hall Induction

(Rock AAA) Murderdolls frontman, Wednesday 13, has hailed the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction of Alice Cooper as long overdue and insisted the veteran shock rocker's contribution to music is massively underrated.

Cooper will be inducted into the Hall of Fame by Rob Zombie on March 14 in New York City and Wednesday 13 says it's not before time.

"I'm so proud Alice Cooper is in the Hall of Fame. He is a friend of mine and I'm very lucky that I've had the opportunity to meet him and get to know him," He told RockAAA. "I used to talk to him about it (Hall of Fame) before and we would laugh about it and just say he didn't know why he wasn't in it but then when I heard he was nominated I was so proud." more on this story

No Bragging Rights Film New Video and Announce Tour Plans

No Bragging Rights directed their new music video for their song "Empire: Disarray" over the weekend with director Josh Knoff (No Bragging Rights, As I Lay Dying, Burning Twilight). The track comes from their new album Illuminator, which was released on 1/11/11.

"We're more than excited to be doing another video with Josh. He really captured the meaning behind the song in his adaptation of the storyline. Boris Release Denied

Contrary to some reports (not ours), Southern Lord Recordings will not be releasing a new album by Boris entitled Heavy Rocks.

Southern Lord released Boris' Heavy Rock Hits, Volumes 1-3 as a 7" vinyl series/and digital download in 2009

Last week US / THEM group announced that Sargent House, not Southern Lord, plan to release two all-new full length Boris albums on April 26th: Attention Please and Heavy Rocks. Read the announcement here
