DevilDriver Star Rushed To Hospital For Seizure
(Rock News Desk) DevilDriver guitarist Mike Spreitzer was rushed to hospital yesterday after suffering a seizure, and will miss the band's upcoming South American tour while he recuperates.

It's the second injury to hit the band recently, after current bassist Aaron Patrick was nearly forced to sit out some Canadian festival appearances due to a back problem.

But the band intend to play the tour as a four-piece, with Jeff Kendrick working as their single guitarist. "Mike had a seizure, and woke up in the emergency room. He's doing okay," Dez Fafara said. "He has now been released, but unfortunately he will not be joining the band on the tour, as doctors have ordered him not to." more on this story

Aerosmith Cancer Terror
(Rock News Desk) Aerosmith's Tom Hamilton has revealed his terror at being forced to undergo experimental surgery after his cancer returned.

The bassist was treated for tumours on his tongue five years ago, and after chemotherapy was given the all-clear. But recently the disease came back, and it spread into his throat.

With his ability to speak and sing at risk, he turned to Dr Steven Zeitels, a specialist who has devised a new form of laser treatment for cancer. But it had never been tried on the tongue area before. "I was just terrified. I really thought, 'Okay, I'm really looking at not being able to talk," Hamilton tells KSAT. "The second I had a tiny bit of consciousness after the procedure, the first thing I did was make a sound. It felt normal and it sounded normal." more on this story

Red Hot Chili Peppers Stalker?
(TMZ) Former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante believes he's being "stalked" by an obsessed female fan ... claiming "I am worried that she is unstable and that she could snap at any moment."

Frusciante filed the request in L.A. last week, saying a 32-year-old woman named August Elizabeth Thomas approached him in 2010 in the hopes of writing a screenplay about his life ... but she wouldn't take no for an answer.

In the docs, Frusciante claims Thomas began firing off aggressive emails and letters -- described as "long, rambling and overly emotional -- and in some cases, she would admit that she is "often drunk." He claims Thomas also showed up to concerts where his rocker wife Nicole Turley was performing to talk about her script. more on this story

Gregg Allman To Be Hospitalized
(hennemusic) Rock legend Gregg Allman is canceling some of his late summer tour dates due to doctor's orders.

Allman is canceling shows from August 26 through September 15; some of these dates will be rescheduled for later in the year. Treatment is going to involve several days of hospitalization and 4 - 6 weeks of bed rest at home.

This isn't the first time this year Gregg has been under the weather: Allman had to cancel four dates at the end of his four week European tour in June due to an upper respiratory condition. His doctor hoped that with rest, he'd get better, but unfortunately the issue has persisted. more on this story

Vince Neil Battery Trial Delay
(hennemusic) Looks like Motley Crue's Vince Neil doesn't take his court time seriously. Maybe his lawyer doesn't, either…who knows for sure, but neither of them were in a Las Vegas courtroom today for what was scheduled to be the start of the rocker's bench trial on a misdemeanor battery charge involving his ex-girlfriend, Alicia Jacobs, on March 24 at a show at the Las Vegas Hilton.

The Las Vegas Sun reports one of Neil's backup attorneys asked the court for an "emergency continuance" of the trial. Attorney Saraliene Smith Durret, who was appearing on behalf of David Chesnoff, Neil's attorney, didn't explain what the emergency was, but the prosecutor did not object.

Justice of the Peace Melissa Saragosa granted the request and reset the date for 8:30 a.m. November 7. more on this story

Sebastian Bach Vs Skid Row
(Rock News Desk) Sebastian Bach wants Skid Row to change their name – because the longer they continue without him the more damage they're doing to the band's reputation.

The singer was fired in 1996 and Johnny Solinger was eventually hired as his replacement. The only two remaining members from their classic era are bassist Rachel Bolan and guitarist Dave Sabo.

Bach and Bolan have repeatedly said there's no chance of a reunion. But now Bach underlines his belief that his former band shouldn't be using the name he helped make famous. "It bothers me, because they're wrecking the name," The singer tells Sonic Shocks. "If they called themselves something different then we could save the name of Skid Row as something cool. But whatever – I can't control it." more on this story

Anthrax Deliver Devil Song
(Gibson) Anthrax will release "The Devil You Know," a new song from their forthcoming album Worship Music, for official download today, August 8.

The track was premiered on Eddie Trunk's Friday Night Rocks radio show on Q104.3 FM in New York. Guitarist Rob Caggiano recently described the song to Guitar World as "…kind of a cross between 'Caught in a Mosh' and an AC/DC song, like 'Whole Lotta Rosie.' It's got that thrashy rock 'n' roll vibe to it, which I love."

Worship Music will be released on Monday, September 12 in Europe on Nuclear Blast Records, and will be released in the U.S. on Tuesday, September 13 via Megaforce Records. more on this story

(Gibson) Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister is one of a dozen artists who are honoring the 20th anniversary of Metallica's "Black Album" with a cover of one of the record's songs.

The tribute to Metallica's 1991 self-titled album will be available in the September issue of Germany's Metal Hammer magazine

Lemmy's contribution is a version of "Enter Sandman," which the rock titan recorded with members of Zebrahead in 1998. The other 11 recordings, featuring DevilDriver, Sodom and others, are previously unreleased. more on this story

Record Labels Face Ruin After Riot Fire
(Rock News Desk) Many of the UK's independent rock and metal labels could face financial ruin after rioters in London destroyed a warehouse used as a distribution base for CDs and DVDs.

The building in Enfield, North London, was robbed by 20 looters, who set it on fire before making their escape during the third night of violence in the English capital.

And while insurance claims may cover some or all of the labels' losses, many businesses may not be able to survive the loss of cashflow and delays in payments being made. more on this story

Ratt To Roll Again
(Gibson) Ratt vocalist Stephen Pearcy confirms that the hard rock band will return in 2012 after a period of inactivity that bafflingly followed their critically acclaimed 2010 album Infestation.

Pearcy wrote on his Facebook page that his solo album, Sucker Punch, is due for completion in September, with a release date to be announced. "Then it's all RATT music," Pearcy wrote. "The band is starting to discuss who, what, where and when. All positive either way for you Ratt n' Rollers!"

Infestation reached #30 on the Billboard charts, but the band played a limited number of shows before tensions within the band forced an indefinite hiatus. Drummer Bobby Blotzer's 2010 book, Tales of a RATT: Things You Shouldn't Know, inspired the drummer to create a new book franchise called WANTED – Things YOU Need to Know.

"I got the idea for the series in thinking, wouldn't it be nice to approach the author of any given book that always has one or two unanswered questions?" Blotzer says. "I want to gather not only the questions, but also have the person posing the question be in the book itself. Including your name, where you're from, and a picture of you next to your questions. How fun right?" more on this story

KISS: Ace Frehley Beat Paul Stanley on IQ Test
(Rock News Desk) Original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley reveals how, tired of feeling like he was being bullied and underrated, he sat an IQ test with Stanley to prove he was smarter than his bandmates thought he was.

Frehley tells The Morton Report: "I had an argument with Gene and Paul, who said that because they write most of the material, I wasn't very bright. I said, 'You'd be surprised how bright I am.'

"I bought these IQ tests and Paul and I took them. There was no fooling around – we timed it and went by the rules," he said. "Paul's IQ is 140, which is very good, near genius. Mine is 164, which is genius. I always knew I was brighter than the next kid; I was just bored." more on this story

New Dream Theater Painful For Mike Portnoy
(Rock News Desk) Mike Portnoy admits he's finding it a challenge to listen to the material Dream Theater have recorded without him.

The band are poised to release new album A Dramatic Turn of Events, their first without Portnoy, who sensationally quit last year, and has now formed new band Adrenaline Mob.

The drummer says: "It's very difficult for me to hear. Nobody wants to see their ex-wife of 25 years with a new husband moving into the house you built. It's painful – a Dream Theater without me was never the plan. But they've chosen to move on and I just have to kind of sit on the sidelines and watch and listen." more on this story

Gotthard To Release One of Steve Lee's Last Live Performances
(RockAAA) Swiss rockers Gotthard are set to release 'Homegrown – Alive in Lugano' in September.

The album was recorded in the band's hometown and captures one of the last performances of vocalist Steve Lee who was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident during an American road trip in October last year.

The album release was postponed as a result of the tragedy but is now set to be unveiled September 30 with a previously unheard recording 'The Train' being released September 2. more on this story

The Zombies 50th Anniversary North American Tour
The Zombies plan to celebrate their 50th anniversary with a North American tour this fall in support of their new album.

The Zombies, helmed by founding members Rod Argent and singer Colin Blunstone, will hit the road in September and October behind their new release Breathe Out, Breathe In.

"There was a clear brief," says Rod Argent says of the new music. "We wanted to use as many two and three part harmonies as possible and lots of Hammond organ, Mellotron and Memotron. We didn't want to recreate the past, but we wanted to capture The Zombies' essence and meaning. Our energy and enthusiasm for making music is the same as it was when we first started and the magic and mystery of the whole music making process, we are still thrilled by it all. So we thought it would be great to celebrate when that all began. I first met Colin outside the Pioneer Club in St Albans for The Zombies' first rehearsal. We didn't know each other but Colin turned up with a broken nose and two black eyes. I thought, oh no, what have we got here? But he was a keen rugby player and had got injured during a game."

Hammerfall Vs Biohazard
(Rock News Desk) Hammerfall singer Joacim Cans says they weren't allowed to use in the international biohazard symbol on their new album – because, they were told, the copyright is owned by the US hardcore band of the same name.

Cans reports: "It was on the cover and on the slipcase, but for some reason Biohazard have it copyrighted. I don't really understand how they can copyright something like that.

"We said, 'There's a biohazard virus all over Europe – but you can't put up signs because Biohazard own the rights to it?' But they own it for the music, so we said, 'We'll take it away.'" more on this story

What Influences Lenny Kravitz
(Gibson) Promoting his latest album, Black and White America, Lenny Kravitz took time to chat to Gibson.com about his life in music. The musical genius waxes lyrical on his favorite producers, saying: "As far as ways to put albums together goes, it's Todd Rundgren, Prince and Stevie Wonder. I identify strongly with them as multi-instrumentalists. That first McCartney solo album was a huge influence as well."

As for guitars, he's clearly a Gibson man. "I own a huge number of guitars, but in the studio it always comes down to three or four," he said. "There's my late '50s Gibson Les Paul Standard. It's an amazing guitar, with beautiful-sounding PAF's. It never leaves the studio. It's on every album. I've also got a 3-pickup Les Pauls from that same era. For acoustic work, I usually play my Gibson Everly Brothers."

And regarding his musical influences from childhood, Kravitz recalls getting up close and personal with a jazz great. "Duke Ellington made a huge impression. I used to sit on his lap as he played piano. Can you imagine that?" he said. "Miles Davis, The Jackson Five, Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, Al Green, Gladys Knight and the Pips … that was my foundation. I didn't even get into rock music until I moved to L.A., when I was 11. That's when I got introduced to Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix, and Cream and The Who. That music, mixed with the funk and R&B and soul and gospel and jazz I had grown up with, comes out in what I do. It made me who I am." more

Smashing Pumpkins For Footloose Rehash
(Gibson) As you may have heard a new version of the '80s movie hit Footloose is coming this fall, starring Dennis Quaid, Julianne Hough and newcomer Kenny Wormald. The remake comes with an all-new soundtrack, with no Kenny Loggins or Deniece Williams to be found.

Country superstar (and Voice coach) Blake Shelton will take over for Loggins on the movie's title track, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The rest of the contributors to the soundtrack album lean a bit rustic – Zac Brown, Big & Rich and Gretchen Wilson all make appearances. Meanwhile The Smashing Pumpkins deliver "Window Paine" and Cee-Lo Green and Kenny Wayne Shepherd team up for "Walkin' Blues." more on this story

Grohl Riding High With Foo Fighters
(Rock News Desk) Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl says he's currently enjoying the best period of his band's career – and he's now happy with the position Nirvana holds in his past.

The frontman admits he once struggled with the legacy of the grunge band which collapsed after Kurt Cobain was found dead in 1994. But with new Foos album Wasting Light riding high, and a new head of steam built up following their year-long hiatus, he's happier than he's ever been.

"It's f***ing crazy. After making the album in my garage then going out and seeing the reception we're getting, and the size of the audiences, it's shocking," Grohl tells Jam. "We don't aspire to these lofty heights – we just want to play music. Don't get me wrong: I'll f***ing taking it. It's awesome; I don't have any complaints at all. But it's strange when you see things just getting better and better. It's not really supposed to happen that way." more on this story

Outside Interests Brought Down Alexisonfire
(RockAAA) Alexisonfire have announced they are to split. Posting an announcement on their official website, lead vocalist George Pettit suggested that the decision to part ways was forced by guitarists Dallas Green and Wade McNeill

In a lengthy statement to fans Pettit got straight to the point in his opening line: "There is no good way to put it so I'm just going to say it. After 10 years, Alexisonfire has decided to part ways. I'm going to try to give you the facts about this as best as I can."

He cited guitarist's Dallas Green's decision to concentrate his time with his other band City and Colour, something which he informed the other members of over a year ago, started to divide the band and that their search for a replacement was proving difficult. The final nail in the coffin, however, was hammered home by Wade McNeill who informed them that he was taking up the offer of joining another (unnamed) band. more on this story

Queen and Pink Floyd Rock Desert Island Poll
(Rock News Desk) Queen and Pink Floyd are the only contemporary musicians featured in a BBC poll of tracks people would take with them to a desert island.

The Radio 4 show Desert Island Discs is the second longest-running programme in history, having started in 1942. In each episode a star guest is asked to pick eight pieces of music they'd be marooned with, alongside a copy of the Bible and the Complete Works of Shakespeare.

In the public poll Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody came fourth, immediately followed by Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb. Number one position was taken by Ralph Vaughan Williams' The Lark Ascending and the rest of the top ten was made up by Elgar, Beethoven, Handel, Holst and Mozart. The Beatles came first in the artist listing, followed by Bob Dylan, Beethoven, Mozart, Floyd, Johan Sebastian Bach, the Rolling Stones, Elgar, Vaughan Williams and Queen. Check out the list

Adrenaline Mob Singled Out Week: Believe Me
Adrenaline Mob (Symphony X's Russell Allen, Sonic Stomp's Mike Orlando, Dream Theater's Mike Portnoy Fozzy's Rich Ward and Nena's Paul DiLeo) are releasing their self-titled debut EP this week. To celebrate we asked Mike to tell us about some of the songs. Today he tells us about "Believe Me":

On Believe Me, I was inspired by the likes of Sevendust & Korn & that big drop tuned heavy thunder. So I grabbed the Les Paul, tuned it to drop B and went to town. Not soon after in my daily trip to the Chanty Shack, we popped in the track & right off the bat Russ knocked me out with the Verses. He knew exactly where I was at with this track from the moment we started. Real heavy verse that goes into this great big open wide chorus where Russ just soars vocally & melodically. After tweaking & tweaking the arrangement we injected the mid & outro solos which have all the melodic content this track called for, met with some ferocious shredding where Portnoy & Myself lock so tightly on songs end. It's a perfect climactic ending!

Lyrically Russ & I took the idea of basically telling someone your close to, yes you may have f**ked up in life or on the path you choose... but take my advice & turn it around. You have one more chance, don't let it pass you by this time.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the EP right here!
