Guns N' Roses' Chinese Democracy Back On The Charts
(hennemusic) Ya gotta love it when a plan comes together. That's how the folks at Best Buy are feeling these days, as they've started to unload some of the more than 1 million copies of Guns N' Roses' "Chinese Democracy" which have been collecting dust in their systems due to lack of public interest.

The retailer placed "Democracy" in its bargain bin recently, making the cd available for just $1.99, and the move is starting to pay off.

"Democracy" sold around 3,200 copies in the US in the week ending Sunday, April 3 — nearly three times the amount (1,200) sold the previous week. As a result, "Democracy" has sold enough to re-enter the Billboard 200 chart at position No. 198. more on this story

Iron Maiden Recording New Concert Film
(Gibson) On their upcoming South American tour, metal legends Iron Maiden plan to film a few concerts for an upcoming DVD. According to BraveWords.com, Bassist Steve Harris told Chile's Futuro 88.9 FM that the band will film their April 8 and 10 shows in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Santiago, Chile, respectively.

"Chileans and Argentines have been a great strength for us, and now we want to show the public more of those parts," Harris said. "We had already recorded there for the movie, Flight 666, but only one song per country. Now we'll show the public much more of Chile and Argentina. Wherever we go, we always wondered what the best groups in the world were, and we thought South America, Chile, Argentina and Sao Paulo, Brazil. Now we can show it."

Clearly that part of the world means something special to the Maiden guys. "I always thought that if we could take the public with us, it would be to those countries," he said. "The rest of the fans in the world can see how they react to the Chileans and Argentines, and will have something to draw from." more on this story

Stone Roses Reunion Speculation Shot Down
(Gibson) For a brief but glorious day, it seemed the world might just drift back to 1990 with the report that singer Ian Brown and guitarist John Squire had buried the hatchet, clearing the way for a Stone Roses reunion.

With a firsthand account from Cliff Boon of Inspiral Carpets that the two met at bassist Mani's mother's funeral, fans had reason to hope for the seemingly impossible reunion. But those rumors have now been quashed by Mani.

Speaking to NME, the current Primal Scream bassist said, "I'm disgusted that my personal grief has been invaded and hijacked by these nonsensical stories. Two old friends meeting up after 15 years to pay their respects to my mother does not constitute the reformation of The Stone Roses. Please (expletive) off and leave it alone. It isn't true and isn't happening."

Singled Out: Lace Weeper and Kevin Wood (Malfunkshun) Tribute To Mother Love Bone's Andrew Wood
Lace Weeper have teamed up with Kevin Wood (Malfunkshun) to release a cover of Mother Love Bone's "Crown Of Thorns" in memory of Kevin's brother and lead singer of MLB Andrew Wood. Today Lace Weeper Guitarist Matt Hayward tells us all about it. Here is the story:

It was a huge honor for us to do this recording, myself and Kevin (Wood) have worked together previously and I was a huge fan of his and Andy's work. Lace Weeper had put out the debut EP in January and we done a tour to support it, so it was nice to sit back, take some off time and record a tribute to someone we hugely respected.

True music is timeless and we're just playing our part in paying our respects to a fantastic lyricist and frontman. The recording process itself was very laid back, we took our time in order to capture a "fun" element that I think Andy would have approved. We wanted to put our own mark on it but maintain the vibe of the original, and I think we got what we wanted.

We're releasing it on Kevin's Wammybox Records, and later this month we're releasing our own single ''So Long, Farewell, Goodbye'' too that we're debuting on Radio Nova on the 17th, so there's plenty going on here at the moment.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself right here!

Whitesnake's David Coverdale Calls Heavy Metal Emotionless
(Rock News Desk) Whitesnake mainman David Coverdale says he "loathes and detests" seeing the phrase "heavy metal" connected with his work.

Despite being a fan of heavy music, Coverdale maintains it's not a label which should be applied to him, although he accepts the assumption has come about from his time with Deep Purple. "It's got to be from that association," he tells Noisecreep. "'Heavy metal' was an expression related to Deep Purple. We were in the Guinness Book of Records for being the loudest band in the world.

"But the three albums that were irreplaceable in my life the year I joined Purple were There's a Riot Going On by Sly and the Family Stone, Live from Donny Hathaway and Music of My Mind by Stevie Wonder. I still live and breathe all of them," he said. "I've never embraced 'heavy metal' on my music, other than I'm really loud. All of my songs have emotional and physical content – it has nothing to do with emotionless metal." more on this story

Sepultura Guitarist Denies Reunion Talks
(Rock News Desk) Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser insists a phone call discussing a reunion with founding frontman Max Cavalera never took place.

Cavalera, who quit the band in 1996, has said he and Kisser recently discussed getting back together, but the guitarist's terms were unacceptable.

But Kisser says that although there was a conversation, it wasn't about any potential reunion – and it's never likely to take place anyway. The axeman tells Blabbermouth: "I talked to Max for two minutes. We talked about football, kids and bulls***, just basically to say, 'How are you, how are things?' Foo Fighters Incredibly Uncomfortable About New Documentary
(Gibson) After a U.K. screening of the new Foo Fighters documentary, Back and Forth, frontman Dave Grohl admitted to the BBC that the film made him feel "incredibly uncomfortable."

The movie, directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker James Moll, chronicles the history of the hard rock band from their formation in the aftermath of Kurt Cobain's death and the breakup of Nirvana to the recording of the group's new album, Wasting Light. For Grohl, some of those experiences were difficult to sit through.

"I asked to watch it before the band did because I didn't want it to break up our band." Grohl said that a particularly difficult moment to watch was the footage where he trashed the recordings made by the band's original drummer, William Goldsmith, for The Colour and the Shape album and rerecorded the parts himself. "It was brutal," Grohl admitted. "That part made me incredibly uncomfortable. I told everybody, 'There's going to be something for each one of you in this movie that will make you feel incredibly uncomfortable.'" more on this story

He reveals just one member of the iconic London Irish outfit spoke to them during their ten-show US trek, which is likely to have been their last.
And he claims that even though ticket prices were "exorbitant," the support band were paid "pittances."

Stickles tells Spinner: "They sing about celebrating the individual and about everyone having dignity, even the downtrodden. But they're happy to step on whoever they have to so they can line their coffers." He had a lot more to say here

More Drama Over Onslaught Split
(Rock News Desk) The reasons Steve Grice gave for leaving Onslaught are false, says guitarist Nige Rockett.

The drummer recently quit, saying he was upset the UK thrash outfit had replaced him for a tour without telling him, and that he saw patterns of behaviour emerging which had cause the band to collapse at the end of the 1980s.

But Rockett says Grice was given the option of playing the tour, but refused to change holiday plans – and he can prove it. The guitarist tells Critical Mass: "I have emails I can show you where I asked him about the shows. I asked him twice, 'Are you willing to cancel your holiday to play them?' They were big shows playing to potentially 25,000 people, and very important for us. But he didn't want to cancel his holiday." more on this story

Anniversary of The Damned Introducing CBGB to UK Punk
On this day in 1977, The Damned became the first British punk group to appear at New York's CBGB. This wasn't the first time that they were the trailblazers of punk rock. Gibson takes a look back: They were the first U.K. punk band to release (and chart) a single and the first to release an album. They were also the first to cross the Atlantic and lay waste to the U.S. Nope, we're not talking about the Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Jam or even The Buzzcocks. U.K. punk's ultimate trailblazers were, in fact, a colorful London outfit known simply as The Damned.

The group was formed out of the ashes of the wonderfully named Masters of the Backside, which featured future Pretender Chrissie Hynde on guitar. Masters of the Backside was the creation of impresario Malcolm McLaren, but failed to gel as McLaren had hoped and split before they could ever record or even play a gig. (McLaren got it right with his other group, a little combo called the Sex Pistols.)

The rest of the band, minus Hynde, decided to have a go on their own. And they had every reason to think they had something cooking. First off, they comprised an amazing collection of bigger-than-life characters. Singer Dave Vanian (formerly David Letts, with a name change to evoke "Transylvanian") was a goth before goths existed. He looked like a crypt keeper… which, in fact, he was before going into music full-time. The drummer was a prototypical leather-and-safety-pins punker with the slightly terrifying name Rat Scabies (neι Chris Millar). And the bassist, well, he was from a planet all his own, sporting brightly dyed hair and preposterous costumes always punctuated with a red beret. He was, quite simply, Captain Sensible. more on this story

Blank City Documentary Trailer
The documentary "Blank City" deals with the "No Wave'" art, music, and film movement of the late 70s and 80s in Lower Manhattan (think the days of Sonic Youth and DNA) and we have some info and a link to the trailer for you.

Featured in the documentary are artists, musicians, and actors who were integral during this movement, including Debbie Harry, Steve Buscemi, Fab 5 Freddy, and John Waters.

Synopsis: Take a trip back to a time when New York City wasn't all glitz and glamour as filmmaker Celine Danhier offers a look at the birth of "No Wave Cinema" and the vibrant art scene that exploded out of the East Village in the late '70s. In the years before Ronald Reagan took office, Manhattan was in ruins. But true art has never come from comfort, and it was precisely those dire circumstances that inspired artists like Jim Jarmusch, Lizzy Borden, and Amos Poe to produce some of their best works. Taking their cues from punk rock and new wave music, these young maverick filmmakers confronted viewers with a stark reality that stood in powerful contrast to the escapist product being churned out by Hollywood. Interviews with the aforementioned artists as well as Debbie Harry, Steve Buscemi, John Waters, John Lurie, Lydia Lunch, and Thurston Moore reveal how a group of young visionaries pooled their resources to birth a film movement that produced some of the most challenging art of the 20th century. Watch American Idol James Durbin Take On A Beatles Classic

Sex, Whiskey & Southern Blood from J.D. Overdrive
Metal Mind Productions will release J.D. Overdrive's debut album, "Sex, Whiskey & Southern Blood" in Europe on 6th June and in USA on 12th July (via MVD). T

he album consists of ten tracks (plus a fancy intro) filled with American dirt, including their own interpretation of Jimi Hendrix' classic - "Purple Haze".

The band was formed in 2007 when guitarist Michal "Stempel" Stemplowski (along with drummer Luksus and bassist Kuba) recruited vocalist Wojciech "Susel" Kaluza for his new rock project. Soon, out of a few loose ideas came a material that felt like the stench of the muddy waters of Louisiana mixed with a warm breeze of the wind traveling across the Nevada deserts.
