Bret Michaels' health troubles are not over. Gibson has the story: It's already been a rough year from Poison frontman and reality star Bret Michaels and it just got worse. The singer will be heading back into the hospital in January for heart surgery, according to RadarOnline.com. The operation will repair a hole in his heart that he's unknowingly had since birth. The rock star was in the hospital a few times earlier this year once in intensive care. Michaels suffered a brain hemorrhage in April, but was able to recover. A month later, he suffered a "warning stroke" that put him back in the hospital. However, he was well enough to show up at the Celebrity Apprentice finale in May, where he won $250,000 for the American Diabetes Association.

Metallica are just wrapping up their epic world tour behind "Death Magnetic" but Lars is already looking at ahead at what they should do next. Gibson reports: Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has confirmed what the band's co-manager Peter Mensch hinted at back in March, that the band has been circling the idea of putting on a massive show on par with Pink Floyd's The Wall production. The show could potentially be so massive that it might be limited to just 10 dates.Ulrich told New Zealand radio station The Rock FM, "We have been kicking some ideas around about doing some stuff that how shall I say it is pretty theatrical. We might incorporate a lot of different ideas instead of it being one particular thing. It would be a multitude of theatrical elements, maybe as an idea for a one-off tour or something." Ulrich also confirmed that more "Big Four" (Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth) shows, including tours of both Europe and North America, could take place in the next year or two. "The vibe on this thing is so big, we'd be stupid to ignore it," he recently told Classic Rock magazine. "I would champion trying to do [the "Big Four" tour] in 2011 or 2012, obviously in England and the United States. It's just a matter of logistics."

Billboard caught up with Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger who they report is ready to get to work on the band's next album, but he says he may face a "strike" from his bandmates. "You don't want to bring that up around the band members, I can tell you that," Kroeger tells Billboard.com with a laugh. "Everyone's at a really comfortable stage in their lives with their relationships and...kids. They're just enjoying life, y'know? Instead of always being on the road or in the studio or shooting videos, it's nice to just kick back and be able to go Trick-or-Treating with your kids. So they're going to want me to focus my creative juices in a different direction, I'm sure."The Billboard report as says that Kroeger expects to start writing in earnest around February and says he'd like to work with "Dark Horse" co-producer Mutt Lange again, but most likely "only in a writing capacity."

(Gibson) Producer Rick Rubin took Kid Rock out of his comfort zone for the star's new album, Born Free, due in November. Not only does the album features collaborations with Bob Seger, Sheryl Crow, Zac Brown, Trace Adkins and Martina McBride but Rubin assembled a heavyweight studio band that included Los Lobos singer/guitarist David Hidalgo, Chavez guitarist Matt Sweeney, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. Kid Rock says he was excited to let Rick Rubin try something new: "I got a pretty good comfort zone: made all my records in Detroit, right by my house, and it's worked out pretty well so far. And to be pulled out of there, and go to L.A., and record this whole record there with these phenomenal musicians in a studio [was different]. "I'd play the song on acoustic guitar, we'd chart it out, we'd sit in a room as a band, play it three, four times, listen back, come out, play it three, four more times done," he said.

Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today roots rocker Mick Rhodes tells us about "Sapulpa" from his new album "'Til I am Dust". We now turn it over to Mick for the story: "Sapulpa" is a small town just south of Tulsa, Oklahoma, which is where my family comes from. My maternal grandfather, Carl, was 21 years old in 1935, and he'd just sent his 19-year-old bride, my grandmother, and their baby daughter, my aunt Peggy, on ahead to California in a car. They had just enough money to pay for grandma and Peg to share a ride in a car with a businessman who was heading West. This was common in those days, when nobody had anything, a train ticket was a real luxury and cheap commercial airline travel was off in the future. Grandma and Peg made it safely to Los Angeles in three days. Grandpa had 85 cents to his name when he kissed his baby girl goodbye. He got a ride from his brother from Tulsa to Sapulpa, then he stuck out his thumb and hoped for the best. After spending a little more than a month on the road - doing odd jobs for money to eat, picking cotton, working on a cattle ranch and sleeping outdoors - he made it to L.A. and to his bride and baby girl. "Sapulpa" is the true story of that journey. It originally had seven verses (!), but I condensed it down to three in the interest of not having a 9-minute song! I've always loved story songs, and have written a few over the years, but this is the first one I've really liked all the way through. Brian Hall's guitar playing just kills me on this one. He's so damn good and soulful. I'm quite a lucky man to have this great band with me. All of 'em are world class. Grandpa died in May of this year, at 95. He never heard the song. But I think he would have appreciated the details. He told me that story of his journey from Oklahoma a hundred times over the years. Until I was grown I didn't appreciate the wildness of the whole thing; A 21-year-old traveling across the country by himself, starting off with essentially a day's worth of cash, his smarts and the clothes on his back ... that's a real cinematic story. And it means so much to me because it's true, and because it's about this man that I loved so much ... Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and preview more tracks from the album at
- iTunes.

(Gibson) The London Evening Standard is reporting that famed London music venue the 100 Club may be forced to close its doors because of rapidly rising overheads that have led to rent fees of around $250,000 a year. The club has seen London debuts from numerous classic bands including The Sex Pistols, Oasis, The Clash and The Buzzcocks. The 100 Club's Jeff Horton, whose father began running the club in 1964, is distressed at the developments saying, "In 1985, when I took over, the rent was barely £11,000. In the U.S. the rents are frozen at certain venues that have a bit of heritage. Here, it's a total free-for-all. What the 100 Club needs is a buyer or major sponsor to step forward. Barring that, we're closing at Christmas despite being as popular as ever. It really is insane."

Ignominious Incarceration is changing its name to The Soulless. The band explains: "The band started in the pits of hell that was Sam's basement. We were just playing heavy music and having fun. When we decided on the name Ignominious Incarceration, we never anticipated the level we would get to. Had we known, I'm sure we would have chosen a simpler name. The band started to get gigs and we started to take the band way more seriously as we discovered how much fun we could have. We did our first tour with Trigger The Bloodshed and this was when we were first approached by Earache Records. This was a real turning point for the band and we realised we could make something of it. We debated changing the name whilst recording 'Of Winter Born', but chose to stick with it. We don't regret doing this as it is what represented the band at the time."Over the last couple of years since 'Of Winter Born', we have matured as people as well as a band. When we came to write the second album, we decided we wanted to do something different from the last one. Not a huge alteration in style, but more a progression of what we enjoy most and feel we can write the best. This then led to the discussion of our name. Obviously the name is very long and hard to pronounce. As a band, you're trying to promote yourselves and get your music to the people. We wanted a new name which was easy to remember and say, and to get ourselves out there. With the change in music, we thought it was a perfect opportunity to change our name as well. This almost 're-launching' of the band has given us new life and we are so motivated towards the new project. "As for the name-choosing itself, this was no easy task! As we were changing the name, we had to be 100% happy with it this time. We found it really hard to find a name bang-on-the-money. In the end, we wrote down thousands of names and set ourselves a deadline to pick the best one. We all liked 'The Soulless', which was in fact a working title for a new song. We feel the name has a dark, edgy feel to it, but is not instantly recognisable as metal and it's easy to say! We feel this represents us a lot better, as well as our new music.
