Quiet Riot Return With New Singer

Quiet Riot have announced that they have regrouped with a new singer and will tour this fall. Here is the background: After the tragic passing of co-founding Quiet Riot singer Kevin DuBrow in 2007, many figured that the band was over. But while going through the vaults of vintage video material for an upcoming documentary of the band's history, the spark was reignited once more for drummer Frankie Banali to kick QR back in gear. The easy part was filling the guitar and bass slots - as former members Chuck Wright (bass) and Alex Grossi (guitar) promptly signed on. However, having to fill DuBrow's large shoes was no small task.

A longtime fan of heavy metal, singer Mark Huff came to Banali's attention while fronting a California-based Van Halen tribute band (that focused on the "Sammy Hagar era"). A true Cinderella story, Huff auditioned via a cattle call audition, promptly blew Banali away, and got the gig. After getting the blessing from DuBrow's mother to carry on with Quiet Riot (and to celebrate her son's music), the group was ready to rock once more.

Quiet Riot hit mega-success with their first-ever US release in 1983, the classic 'Metal Health.' Spawning two hit singles that have gone on to become synonymous with heavy metal - "Cum On Feel the Noize" and "Metal Health" - the 'Metal Health' album went on to become the first-ever metal US debut to hit the #1 spot on the Billboard album charts, and resulted in a solid year of sold-out arena shows and non-stop MTV video airplay. However, it was the DuBrow-Banali-Wright-Grossi line-up that proved to be DuBrow's favorite touring line-up (and also, most stable). - more on this story

Buffalo Springfield Reunion

(Gibson) Neil Young, Stephen Stills and Richie Furray are reforming as Buffalo Springfield for the first time in 42 years for a concert this fall. The three original members of the '60s folk-rock group will be reuniting for a performance during Young's annual Bridge School Benefit in Mountain View, California, according to RollingStone.com.

Young, Stills and Furray are the only surviving members of Buffalo Springfield's initial lineup. Bassist Dave Palmer died in 2004 and drummer Dewey Martin died last year. There's no word on who will fill those slots, or if the band will perform as an acoustic trio.

The last time Buffalo Springfield played a public show was in 1968 (they once performed privately at Stills' house in 1986). There was talk of a reunion tour, but Young wasn't interested. Subsequently, Martin and Palmer brought in other members and toured as Buffalo Springfield Revisited. In 1997, the band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but Young chose not to attend. However, three years later, he released the song "Buffalo Springfield Again," in which he discussed getting the band back together and sang, "Maybe we can now show the world what we got." - more on this story

Metallica Kick Off Final Tour Leg Tomorrow

Metallica fans in New Zealand received some reassurance from Metallica that the band still plans to play in Christchurch despite the major earthquake that recently hit the area. The final leg of their Death Magnetic Tour kicks off tomorrow in Melbourne and will wrap at the same venue on November 21st. Here is what they had to say at the Christchurch date:

We're in route to Melbourne and we're psyched about getting out there and getting amongst it again. We kinda make it a policy here to not respond to rumors and speculation, however the recent magnitude 7.2 earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand is certainly a unique situation and we are aware that there have been various reports that we would not make it there.

Well, we're coming. Full bore. Between working through European volcanic ash clouds last April (and not missing any shows . . . ) and living in California most of our lives, we are no strangers to the effects of natural disasters and our hearts go out to those of you affected by this major tremor. What we can and will do is what we always do - come and play, give 110%, and "rock the house" (!!) in our own unique way for the two nights we're in Christchurch. Legacy Recordings have announced a November 16th release date for West Coast Seattle Boy - The Jimi Hendrix Anthology, which features more than four hours (45 tracks) of rare and previously unreleased Jimi Hendrix music on a 5 Disc (4 CD/1 DVD) deluxe boxset.

The long-awaited career-spanning box set tracks Hendrix's remarkable journey from little known R&B sideman to international stardom through an unprecedented assemblage of previously unavailable recordings.

West Coast Seattle Boy - The Jimi Hendrix Anthology is not a collection of existing Jimi Hendrix albums but instead 45 unreleased Jimi Hendrix live and studio recordings including demos and alternate versions of songs from Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold As Love, and Electric Ladyland. West Coast Seattle Boy includes Hendrix's never before heard version of Bob Dylan's "Tears Of Rage," solo acoustic recordings of Electric Ladyland favorites like "Long Hot Summer Night" and "1983 (A Merman I Shall Turn To Be)" as well as never before heard live performances from Berkeley and the legendary Band Of Gypsys Fillmore East concert on New Year's Eve 1969 combined together with such new Hendrix songs as "Hear My Freedom," "Hound Dog Blues," "Lonely Avenue" and more. - more on this story

Shinedown Unplugged Tour

Shinedown will be going unplugged for their Anything & Everything – An Acoustic Evening with Shinedown tour.

The tour will kick off on November 4th at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa, Florida, and continues through a tour finale on December 9th at the House of Blues in New Orleans, LA.

"We've always tried to exceed our fans' expectations with our live shows, giving 110% each and every night," Says frontman Brent Smith. "We've been asked when we'd do an acoustic tour for awhile so we decided to take it a step further. We felt these types of shows were the perfect setting to really have a heart-to-heart with them – a place where they could ask us anything and we would tell them everything. Weezer Doing Leno and Release Jackass Video

Weezer fans set your TIVO for tomorrow night (September 15) as the band is set to person their new single "Memories" live on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on at 11:35PM/10:35CT.

The single comes from their new album, Hurley, which hits stores today and streaming on the band's Myspace page.

According to their label, Weezer recently enlisted the help of longtime friends Johnny Knoxville and the crew from Jackass to shoot a high-energy, rambunctious new video for the first single from Hurley, and the result was a hilarious concoction of bowl shredding skaters and an outrageous, must-see performance by the band and crew.

New Coldplay Album Delayed

(Gibson) Although the members of Coldplay initially promised to have a new album released by the end of 2010, it's now looking like Chris Martin and Co. will be working on it through the new year. Coldplay's fifth album won't come out until sometime in 2011, according to a Coldplay fansite (Coldplaying.com).

The band spoke at a meet and greet event, saying they had lots of work ahead of them. According to a post on Coldplaying.com, "Chris said that although they are close to finishing lots of songs, they have not actually finished anything at all yet."

Former Coldplay manager Phil Harvey had more bad news for Coldplay fans. Although the band's tour for previous album Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends began immediately after the record's release, Coldplay will take a little more time between the release of the unnamed fifth album and the next tour. Although no specific dates were mentioned, there is a possibility Coldplay won't tour again until 2012. -

Whitesnake Lose Yet Another Member

Another week and another lineup change for Whitesnake. This time it is keyboard player Timothy Drury who has parted with the group. Here is what he had to say:

Train's latest album, "Save Me San Francisco," has gone Gold having sold more than 500,000 copies since its release and fueled by two hit singles including the quadruple Platinum "Hey, Soul Sister".

Released in August 2009, "Hey, Soul Sister," became Train's fourth Top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and second-ever Top 10 single, peaking at #3 on the Hot 100 six months after its release.

The highest peaking, and most successful single in Train history, "Hey, Soul Sister" wound up out-charting 2001's Grammy-winning "Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)" (#4) and 2003's "Calling All Angels" (#17) on the Hot 100. - more on this story

Scott Weiland's Autobiography Not Dead & Not for Sale Set For Release

A follow up to yesterday's digest story as Gibson has more details for you today: Stone Temple Pilots (and former Velvet Revolver) frontman Scott Weiland's autobiography will be released on March 1, 2011, according to his publisher, Scribner.

The book, titled Not Dead & Not for Sale, will chronicle his rise from the Southern California club scene to superstardom with Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver. The bio will reportedly pull no punches, detailing Weiland's well-publicized battle with substance abuse.

The book was co-written with David Ritz, four-time winner of the Gleason Music Book Award. Ritz, who co-wrote the Marvin Gaye hit "Sexual Healing," has previously collaborated with Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, B.B. King, Aretha Franklin, Etta James and Smokey Robinson. He also co-wrote Rickles' Book: A Memoir, the hugely entertaining Don Rickles autobiography released in 2007. - more on this story

New Bret Michaels Reality Show

(Gibson) Bret Michaels is extending his stay on the small screen with a new VH1 reality show – Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It, which casts Michaels alongside Kristi Gibson, his longtime on-and-off girlfriend and the mother of his two children. The show also stars the couple's daughters, 10-year-old Raine and 5-year-old Jorja, who refer to their rock star dad as "Papa Rocka."

The show premieres Monday, October 18 at 10 p.m. ET and will document the 47-year-old's efforts to juggle family life and the demands of a rock and roll lifestyle.

Now nearly as famous for his multiple forays into reality TV as he is for his work as frontman of iconic pop metal group Poison, Michaels formerly starred as the object of affection of 25 women in VH1's Rock of Love with Bret Michaels (and its sequels), as the winning contestant in Celebrity Apprentice 3 and as a judge in Nashville Star. Rock of Love pulled in VH1's highest ratings for any series yet, and the network's hopes are high for Michaels' newest project.

Ladies & Gentlemen... The Rolling Stones Coming to DVD and Blu-ray

Eagle Rock will simultaneously release the DVD and Blu-ray standard editions of "Ladies & Gentlemen... The Rolling Stones" on October 12.

This is probably the most sought after Rolling Stones concert performance and it has been fully restored and remastered from the original film print and multitrack audio masters.

Ladies & Gentlemen follows the highly successful CD reissue of Exile On Main Street (Universal Music Group) in May of this year and the Stones In Exile DVD (Eagle Rock Entertainment) on June 22, 2010. The October 12 releases will be followed shortly after by a deluxe edition box set with additional bonus material and memorabilia. - more on this story

This song started with a heavy riff. Just like most of our songs do. Unknown to me it was in an odd time "7" as our drummer said. He loves this song largely because of that. The jackhammer/machine gun feel of that opening riff combined with my usual disgust for whatever was going on that day in the demise of our country gave way to the opening lyric " I had much love , one proud American." Don't get me wrong I'm still one proud American. Proud and disgusted.

I always swore not to get political with my music... But it applies pretty much to all politicians "no integrity all liars". Thanks to them we have a system with as much integrity as they do. The line where I reference Baretta being free used to be O.J.. Robert Blake, Orenthal James Simpson in my opinion both got away with murder because they are rich and famous. There are plenty of people you've never heard of in jail for similar crimes with less evidence. No fame, no money you go to jail. Things like this leave me disgusted. How can you respect that?

Very few places to find integrity anymore. That definitely inspired the coda "lost power lost pride, no integrity all liars". I hope you find some integrity here, "hear n now".

On October 1st Nick Lowe and Elvis Costello will share the stage and a band (longtime associates Bill Kirchen and Austin Delone, as well as Bob Andrews will be featured players) for a very special night at San Francisco's Great American Music Hall.

During an early and late set, "Costello Sings Lowe / Nick Sings Elvis" will find the two legends performing hits from each others' iconic catalogs for one night only.

Nick Lowe is widely known for his production of Elvis Costello's early albums, helping to shape the now legendary songwriters sound. Lowe also penned "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding)," while Lowe returned the favor covering Costello's "Indoor Fireworks" in 1985. - more on this story

Threat Signal Lose Member

Threat Signal have parted ways with drummer Norm Killeen and are currently auditioning for a replacement.

The band has issued the following statement: "After three amazing years together the Threat Signal camp has decided to part ways with drummer Norm Killeen. This was a mutual decision and there are no hard feelings towards each other. We will still continue to work with Norm's graphic design company NME Studios. We wish you all the best with your future endeavors Norm, much love and respect.

"So now the drummer search begins! We're looking for someone preferably with touring experience, but if not, that's fine. The Surfrider Foundation Celebrity Expression Session A Success

The Surfrider Foundation raised $29,600 at their 5th annual Celebrity Expression Session this past weekend, to help the Foundation continue its efforts towards protecting our world's oceans, waves and beaches. This was a 500% increase in funds raised from last year.

This year's event, which was hosted by musician Martyn Lenoble and fiancée, actress Christina Applegate, and sponsored by Barefoot Wine, Cali Bamboo and the Malibu Surfing Association, drew an eclectic mix of celebrities from world of music, film, and television. The celebrities, which included Anthony Kiedis and Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jane's Addiction's bassist Eric Avery, and actors Austin Nichols, Brian Geraghty, Eric Balfour and Sam Trammell, were all treated to a rare opportunity; the chance to surf Malibu's famed First Point all by themselves.

For each wave caught and ridden, event sponsors donated $200. Additionally, away from the water, celebrities encouraged their social network followers to make donations to the Surfrider Foundation via www.crowdrise.com and raised an additional $4,600.

From Good Homes Announce More Reunion Shows

From Good Homes will continue their reunion with a weekend of shows at the Wellmont Theatre in Montclair, NJ on December 17th & 18th .

The Wellmont Theatre was the site of >From Good Homes's reunion in 2009 over 2 sold out shows after a 10 year hiatus, of which Relix Magazine said the band's "playing still feels as fresh and invigorating as it ever was".

Since the initial 2009 Reunion, the band has headlined The Mighty High Festival in Tuxedo, NY and performed a headline show at The Music Box at The Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa in Atlantic City over this past Labor Day weekend. - more on this story

A Perfect Circle Reunite

For those that missed the story yesterday, A Perfect Circle have reunited. Josh Freese and Billy Howerdel let the cat out of the bag back in August that the band planned to reform and on Monday they announced a short fall tour and TV appearance. Here is the official word:

A Perfect Circle, led by Maynard James Keenan (Tool, Puscifer) and Billy Howerdel (Ashes Divide), will embark on a five-city tour this fall (dates and ticket on-sale information will be announced shortly).

Shows in Phoenix (Marquee Theatre), Los Angeles (Avalon), Seattle (Showbox at The Market) and San Francisco (The Fillmore) will be three-night stops with each night featuring one of A Perfect Circle's three albums in its entirety (Mer de Noms, Thirteenth Step and eMOTIVe). Las Vegas (The Pearl) will be a two-night outing (Mer de Noms and Thirteenth Step). - more on this story
