Aerosmith's final concert in Canada on their current tour may be the band's final concert period according to lead guitarist Joe Perry. "Technically speaking, after the gig in Vancouver (on Sept. 16), I don't have a job with Aerosmith," Perry told the Calgary Herald "We know these are the last shows for awhile. And I really do mean awhile. I don't know when we'll be out there again, the five of us, so we'll be playing with everything we've got." The reason? Frontman Steven Tyler's new gig. While the Aerosmith have confirmed that Tyler will be a judge on American Idol, the Idol camp has yet to make it official. But Perry doesn't think too highly of the move, "It's a reality show designed to get people to watch that station and sell advertising. It's one step above (Teenage Mutant) Ninja Turtles," he tells the Herald. "I'll tell you one thing, when we put this band together, this is not something that (Steven Tyler) would do," he adds, his voice filled with disappointment and frustration. "It's his business, but I don't want Aerosmith's name involved with it. We have nothing to do with it." However, there is a chance that the other members will carry on without Tyler. Ben Kenney of Incubus and The Roots fame is set to release his fourth solo album, Burn The Tapes, on October, 1, 2010.According to his bio, Ben Kenney brings his diverse music experience and influences to his most recent solo album, Burn The Tapes. Kenney's music begins with an alternative rock foundation and branches out towards the multifaceted genres of punk rock, R&B, and ambient. Kenney's talent extends past that of the typical musician. In addition to writing and playing every instrument on his solo endeavors, he records and produces them. Burn The Tapes once again exhibits his technical skills as a multi-instrumentalist. Kenney implements experiences from his previous bands into his solo albums to give him his distinct sound. Thrashing guitars are remnants of his Philadelphia-based punk rock band, Supergrub, which was strongly influenced by Bad Brains. The heaviness of some songs is counterbalanced with funky grooves perfected from his stint with The Roots. Kenney's vocal cadence is similar to fellow Incubus bandmate, Brandon Boyd, with added falsetto notes to his chiefly tenor vocals.

Weezer's new album Hurley is set to hit stores next Tuesday (Sept 14th) but they are giving fans a week long preview of the effort by streaming the entire new album on Myspace.Gibson reports that Hurley is a bit of a landmark for Rivers Cuomo and company. After leaving Geffen Records (following 16 years with the label), the band signed with punk indie label Epitaph. If the bouncy, pop-punk single "Memories" is any indication, the album will return Weezer to the rawer, power pop sound of their early music. Of course, Weezer will be celebrating their early albums this fall, when they play all of their 1994 debut album (or "The Blue Album") and 1996's Pinkerton in concert. However, no official dates have been announced yet.

Some big news for Phish phans: On October 19th, JEMP Records will release Coral Sky, a 2-DVD set capturing Phish's November 2, 1996 performance at Coral Sky Amphitheater in West Palm Beach, FL. The complete, uncut concert was created from archival videotapes of the multi-camera lawn screen feed and the audio was mixed from multi-track masters in stereo PCM and 5.1 surround. Amid the swaying palms and soft breezes of South Florida, the two-and-a-half hour plus concert showcased some of the most unique and compelling playing of the band's career, including a transcendent pairing of "Crosseyed And Painless" and "Run Like An Antelope." Santana's Karl Perazzo was featured on percussion throughout the show. Perazzo, who had become acquainted with the band members during their 1992 and 1996 summer tours with Santana, added polyrhythms that explored new space within Phish's music in this deeply experimental show. Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Chicago rockers Filligar recently caught our attention with their killer old school meets new school sound. So we asked Filligar's Casey Gibson to tell us about "Health" from their new album "The Nerve". We now turn it over to Casey for the story: "Health" came together in our practice space in Chicago. It started with that Mellotron hook--I had been listening to a lot of Zeppelin and it just hashed itself out one cold morning. We sat on that hook for a long time, happy with the melody but a little unsatisfied with the pocket underneath. We had been experimenting with different ways of expressing it harmonically, but it was feeling too busy. Finally, the answer hit us--give it the old Chicago Blues treatment and just thump the E tonic underneath. It gave it this pulse that really carries the momentum of the melody. The lyrics are feel-good--we like the idea of pairing the positive message with that menacing groove. We also had a good time putting on our producer hats in the studio with this track--I think the amplified harmonica in the choruses and ending was a cool addition, and that guitar freak-out in the closing seconds of the song was Johnny breaking a string on that last chord. He ripped the string out in frustration, thinking he'd need to do another take, but we liked the effect and decided to keep it. The song has become a staple of our live set. It's an easy one to have fun with, and that last rock-out is great to lean in to and let everything loose. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself with the full album stream
