Rolling Stones Talking Farewell Tour
There have been rumors of a Rolling Stones farewell tour for quite a while, but now a member goes on record confirming that there are talks about it within the band. Gibson reports: Speaking to Le Parisien, Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts said, "We're discussing it at the moment. We said that if we do something, it will be next year or the year after."

With Watts turning 70 next June and Mick and Keith joining him in the not-too-distant future, the group is hesitant to look too far ahead. "We've reached an age where you can't look too far into the future," he said.

After the story was initially leaked that the Stones would embark on a farewell tour, there has been no word about specific dates. According to Watts, it's all in the hands of the Glimmer Twins: "We will resume playing whenever Mick and Keith get bored. At the moment, they're having a good time." - more on this story

Electric Light Orchestra Founder Killed By Bale of Hay
Nightwatcher had this tragic news: Mike Edwards, a founding member of Electric Light Orchestra, has died in a freak accident involving a bale of hay. The cellist was killed on the A381 in Devon on Friday, Sept. 3, in an incident in which a bale of hay hit the van he was driving, reports the BBC.

Police are investigating if the runaway bale of hay – weighing at 600kg – rolled off a tractor from a farm close to the road. Edwards' van swerved and hit another vehicle but the other driver escaped the incident uninjured.

Police said they used YouTube clips and photos of Edwards to identify the 62-year-old but they are still trying to find his family to help formally identify the body.

Phil Anselmo Disowns Newly Released Pantera Song
Rock Radio recently caught up with former Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo to discuss the 20th anniversary of the band's landmark album Cowboys From Hell. Here is part of their report:

To celebrate [the anniversary], the band have put out the track The Will to Survive, which was recorded during the album sessions but never released before. And Anselmo says there's a very good reason why: it didn't represent what Pantera were about to become when the 1990 record changed the metal landscape.

"You listen to that song and you can tell it was written before I was in the band," He tells Rock Radio's Paul Anthony. "We performed it early in the days of me being there. It didn't really fit the previous lineup who recorded the Power Metal album. So it sure as hell wasn't going to rest well with the tracks on Cowboys From Hell." - He's not done

Axl Rose Just Misunderstood?
Sebastian Bach and Tracii Guns have offered up explanations for Axl Rose's behavior during his recent UK shows, where he appeared late on stage every night and treated his audience to angry outbursts at Reading and Dublin.

Rock Radio reports: Former Skid Row singer Sebastian Bach, who'll support GnR on their planned return to the UK in October, says there's no secret behind Rose's late starts.

"Everybody has all these theories as to why he acts the way he acts. And there's no big mystery: it's his voice," Bach says. "It's his job to sing like that, and sometimes that sound is hard for him. To sing in that range is just not an easy thing to do. He does what he can – even if it takes him 45 more minutes to warm up his pipes so he can sing Sweet Child O'Mine." - Tracii Guns has a less straight-forward 'spiritual' explanation here

Slipknot's Corey Taylor Argues Seven Deadly Sins Are Not Sins
Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor is the guest host on Rock Radio this week but the RR also reports that Taylor says his first book discusses the idea that the seven deadly sins aren't sins at all – they're what make us human.

Gluttony, greed, lust, rage, envy, sloth and pride are parts of our personalities as people, he argues, and if you want to be a good person you have to learn to deal with them.

"They're the kind of things that connect us all – we're all horny, hungry, angry mothers, basically. But that doesn't make them sins. Taylor tells ExploreMusic. "They may lead to sin, but the urge itself isn't sin. We're all instinctive animals at the end of the day. You can live with these hungers and still be a good person. - He has more to say here, plug get details on the Rock Radio special

The album is set for release on October 12th in North American via InsideOut Music (and is out now in the UK/Europe).

New singer Apollo Papathanasio states: "I was completely inspired by doing the recordings for the new Spiritual Beggars album. Working with Richard Bengtsson (co-producer/mixer) and Michael Amott while recording was fun and super creative! We were all on the same page and we had a good flow in the studio and I'm more than pleased with the end result! There were no arguments, we worked effectively - and we laughed a lot. Iron Maiden's Adrian Smith Appears on Guitars, Beers & Tears
It appears that Iron Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith has been doing a bit of moonlighting with Guitars, Beers & Tears. It will make sense after you read the announcement: Adrian Smith has recently been in collaboration with old friend Dave "Bucket" Colwell, a musician who's versatile career has led him from his early days alongside Iron Maiden's Adrian Smith in the A.S.A.P project of the late 1980s via a 14 year tenure with Bad Company, to his current undertaking: the album 'Guitars, Beers & Tears'.

Adrian is featured on the songs 'Reach Out' and 'Make Up Your Mind', on the album which was released on August 17, 2010 on the AAO Music / Reality label in the US and Canada, and due for release in the UK on Jerkin Crocus Records on the 1st November 2010.

Alongside Adrian, Bucket also enlisted the help of a number of other notable musicians for this project including members of The New York Dolls, Bad Company, Thunder and The Quireboys. -

Weezer Lost Over New Album Name
Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo somewhat addressed the controversy over their new album title. Gibson reports: Forgive Rivers if he seems inclined to second-guess the name of the band's new album, Hurley. The L.A. alt-rockers have had album titles bite them in the caboose before. "We've always had bad luck," the singer-guitarist told the Toronto Sun. "We put out Pinkerton in 1996, and the day it came out we got sued by the Pinkerton Security Agency, and they took the albums off the shelves in its first week of release."

Weezer fans have been in a bit of an uproar since guitarist Brian Bell divulged that Hurley was named after the Hurley clothing company (which is making Weezer-inspired shirts and hoodies) and not the Lost character, as was widely assumed.

"We didn't want to have another self-titled album, because that's just confusing," Cuomo explained. "But yeah, we easily could have called it Jorge Garcia, the name of the actor who played Hurley. Anything else would have been better." - more on this story

The Pogues Retirement Announcement Just a PR Stunt?
A member of The Pogues has disavowed a recent announcement as a PR stunt. Gibson tells that tale: Contrary to their recent announcement, Irish punk-folkies The Pogues are not throwing in the towel after their December tour. Spinner reports that guitarist Phil Chevron posted a comment on the band's official forum saying that the press release was meant to drum up publicity for the band.

"This claim does not come from me and I will neither be supporting it nor discussing it," Chevron wrote, which resulted in an explanation from bandmate Spider Stacy. Apparently the upcoming trek will be the band's final Christmas tour, but not the final tour forever.

"This is the last Christmas tour for the foreseeable future," Stacy wrote. "That's not to say we won't be showing up at festivals here and there or maybe even the odd gig around the U.K. and Ireland and certainly in Europe. But we're tired of dragging our weary, freezing carcasses around these drowning islands every December, so we're going to give it a rest before you get tired of it, too. Go and see The Libertines. They're the best." - more on this story

Singled Out: Candlelight Red's Closer

Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Jeremy Edge from Candlelight Red tells us about the title track to their recently released "Closer" EP. We now turn it over to Jeremy for the story:

When we wrote the song "Closer" it started out as a simple music idea that we recorded and gave to our singer Ryan. Ryan came back a few weeks later with a finished version that gave us chills! Once we started circulated the single we had gotten an interesting letter. The letter from a fan was an interesting story of how the song reminded her of a relative who committed suicide.

The lyrics "It's nothing , get it out of your mind. I tell myself, time after time" and the lyrics "Come closer and watch me bleed. Come closer and see what you've done to me" reminded her of the circumstances surrounding the incident. Apparently a husband had suspected his spouse of cheating but chalked it up to paranoia. Later he found his suspicions were true and committed suicide. As dark as that story was, it inspired us when we went to make a music video. We altered the story and depicted a gilted girlfriend come in and catch Ryan's character with his new girlfriend and shoots and kills them both. Lying brain dead, his character is seen in front of a mirror, his reflection sings the lyrics in retrospect.

The dark tone in the video sparked local controversy, which later escalated because we borrowed a local ambulance and police car off duty, for a total of 10 mins. Some claimed the video was "wasted taxpayer dollars", while other locals of the small town we shot it in, rallied behind the band. Strangers would come up to the band and say things like "Hey, we liked your video, I don't care what any of the old timers think!" So it was interesting to see a song that didn't necessarily have a dramatic story behind it, suddenly develop one after its release!

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!

The Kinks Dave Davies Releasing Mystikal Movie
(Gibson) A new movie, Dave Davies Kronikles: Mystikal Journey, sees the Kinks founder and brother of frontman Ray tracing his life's spiritual journey from his mother reading tea leaves to rock and roll's flirtation with assorted gurus to yoga, astrology and Wilhelm Reich.

As a Kink, Davies' guitar playing gave his brother's more whimsical tendencies a bite and toughness that few could match back in the '60s.

Davies has produced the music for this insightful document of one man's mystical journey as he traces his life from teen rebellion to rock superstardom in relation to his own spiritual development. - more on this story

Led Zeppelin First Took Flight On This Day in 1968
On this day in 1968 the band that would become known as Led Zeppelin, which featured Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and John Bonham, made their live debut, billed as The Yardbirds, at Teen Club Box 45 in Gladsaxe, Denmark. Gibson has an indepth look at this event to mark the anniversary:

Pity P.J. Proby. When the John Paul Jones-booked studio band arrived for his Three Week Hero sessions in September 1967, he must have thought he'd caught lightning in a bottle. What he heard, as he and the band laid down the track "Jim's Blues," was a quartet seemingly assembled by the gods — and they were white hot.

On harmonica was a 19-year-old Midlands kid with a shocking pile of blond locks named Robert Plant. On drums, another young Northerner named John Bonham, who seemed to hit the skins harder than anyone had ever seen. On bass was a familiar studio face, John Paul Jones. And playing guitar was another well-known studio musician who had previously played on Proby's sessions but had broken out in recent years with The Yardbirds. His name, of course, was Jimmy Page. - more on this story

Evile Plan Next Album
evile are planning their next studio album, the follow up to 2009's infected nations, and will once again be working with producer russ russell.

evile lead guitarist ol drake comments: "We're well on our way into writing the material for Evile's third album now. We've been playing around with the odd part and riffs since 'Infected Nations' came out in 2009. I have about ten song ideas which are being built on daily, but not going to stop there. We're not going to limit ourselves this time to a certain number of songs. We're just going to write until it's time to give up and go into pre-production. We've been sending tracks/recordings/ideas back and forth between ourselves, Russ Russell and our management (Wiseblood) and there's an excellent vibe going.

"I don't want this to be a typical 'new album' update using the same descriptions and words most bands use to big up an album, so I'll just say the new stuff is really getting my blood boiling and my heart racing. We've been through a lot over the past year, and it's being naturally reflected in the music which is coming out. I've never been as passionate as I am now about writing the best material we can. With Joel in the mix, and him being a die-hard thrash fan since the '80s, I'm looking forward to see how this will turn out. Keep an eye on our website for more details, and come catch us on one of the 77 shows in September-December in North America! (If you don't see me I'll be busy riffing for the benefit of your ears.)" - more on this story

Metal Stars Get Nail'd
(Gibson) Heavy metal heavyweights are on board for a new video game, nail'd, from gaming company Deep Silver. Music Week reports that Raymond Herrera and Christian Olde Wolbers, once members of Fear Factory, Damageplan's Pat Lachman, Static X's Wayne Static, Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta, Deftones' Stephen Carpenter, Strapping Young Lad's Jed Simon and Devil Driver's John Boecklin collaborated on three songs for the game which also includes tracks from Slipknot, Backyard Babies and Queens of the Stone Age.

The project was put together by Herrera, who co-manages a gaming music company in the U.S. Deep Silver originally wanted Herrera to broker some licensing deals but the gaming company's Malte Wagener explains that Herrera preferred to hand-pick musicians for new material. "All the guys were chosen on the strength of their musical style and ability," he said. "Because they are friends with each other it was quite easy to convince them to do it."

"Count for Something," "Through Walls of Flame" and "Decimator" will appear in promos for the game, which is set for international release in October. There might even be an accompanying soundtrack album. - more on this story

Bettie Serveert Announce Rare North American Tour
Bettie Serveert are heading out on a rare North American tour this fall in support of their album, Pharmacy of Love, released by Second Motion Records in the U.S. and by Sound of Pop in Canada.

Here is the official word: With the band employing a "back to basics" approach, Pharmacy of Love captures the kind of raw, contagious energy that has long characterized Bettie Serveert's live shows. Recorded in a Belgian recording studio, founding members Carol van Dyk (vocals/guitar), Peter Visser (guitar) and Herman Bunskoeke (bass) were joined on the new album by special guest Joppe Molenaar (of the Dutch band Voicst) on drums.

"It's the blow upon a bruise," sings van Dyk on "Love Lee," and the phrase perfectly describes Bettie Serveert's proclivity for cloaking the starkest emotions with verve and aplomb. From the urgent "Deny All" to the anguished album closer, "What They Call Love," Pharmacy of Love is a masterful collection of songs that are by turns raucous, shimmering and shiver-inducing as they examine the unpredictability of life and love. - more on this story
