Kid Rock Trashes Aerosmith's Steven Tyler

(hennemusic) Brand Tyler probably never saw it coming. Kid Rock has not exactly built his reputation on being shy, so when he sat down with Entertainment Weekly for an interview to be published next week, he didn't pull any punches when asked about one of his musical heroes.

"I think it's the stupidest thing he's ever done in his life," Rock said, referring to the decision by Aerosmith's Steven Tyler to join American Idol as a judge.

"He's a sacred American institution of rock and roll, and he just threw it all out the window — just stomped on it and set it on fire." - Whoa. There's more...

Megadeth Plan New Album and Hope For Big Four Tour

(Gibson) Megadeth drummer Shawn Drover recently gave online publication Crypt Magazine the scoop on the band's new album, and the word is: It's coming soon!

"Right now we're in tour mode, but we're starting to discuss our game plan for next year, and I envision next year we'll be recording a new record," Drover said. "So there's no end in sight as far as we're concerned. We're just going to keep rolling, and things are going really well for us right now, and we're just seizing every opportunity that we can."

Also asked about Megadeth's mega-successful European jaunt on The Big Four tour with Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax this past summer, Drover said there's hope for more tour dates with the metal powerhouses. "Once we did [the Big Four Tour] in Europe, now everyone around the world's screaming for it," Drover said. "So hopefully we'll be able to do it next year, or whenever that's going to be. But right now, we really don't know. You know, there's talk, you hear things, people say things, but until it actually presents itself … We're all really hopeful that it will. New Ronnie James Dio Recording Set For 2011 Release

Talking Metal's Mark Strigl sent over word about another new recording featuring the late metal great Ronnie James Dio will be released next year.

Mark writes on his blog: I met up with David "Rock" Feinstein from the Rods yesterday in midtown Manhattan. We recorded an interview for episode 327 of the TM podcast which will be posted sometime early next week. We spoke about his new solo album Bitten By the Beast which includes a song called Metal Will Never.

The song includes lead vocals by Feinstein's late cousin and former Elf band mate, Ronnie James Dio. It is one of the last two last songs RJD every recorded. The second song will be included on a new reunion album by the Rods which will be released through Niji Entertainment in 2011. - more info here

(Gibson) A Perfect Circle are about to embark on their first tour in six years. But, before starting that trek, Maynard James Kennan and friends stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday night.

The reunited band performed "Weak and Powerless," off of their 2003 album, Thirteenth Step. Check it out below.

Slayer Releasing New Song On Black Friday

Slayer will release a previously unreleased track, "Atrocity Vendor," as part of a special limited-edition 7-inch single.

Written by Kerry King, the track was recorded during the 2009 "World Painted Blood" sessions, and will be released on "Black Friday," November 26, exclusively through Metal Club, the North American indie store consortium that works to connect the metal community with their local "brick and mortar" record stores.

"Atrocity Vendor" will be paired with the Tom Araya/Jeff Hanneman-penned track "World Painted Blood," and released in a clear sleeve on a red vinyl disc. - more on this story

Dream Theater's James LaBrie Cancels Solo Tour

Dream Theater vocalist James LaBrie has some bad news for fans, his solo tour is off. Here is what he had to say:

It is very difficult for what I am about to say. The 'Static Impulse' tour has been cancelled due to some unfortunate, unforeseen difficulties with securing work visas for a couple of the guys.

It would be virtually impossible for us to have these visas processed on time to begin the tour let alone the rehearsals which were scheduled for the week prior to the first show. - more on this story

Ronnie James Dio's Wife Wendy Donates 100K To Cancer Research

At Wednesday's TJ Martell Foundation Annual Awards Gala, Wendy Dio, the wife of legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio who recently succumbed to cancer, made a generous donation of $100,000 for a stomach cancer research program in her late husband's name at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center; she also urged the audience to be vigilant about cancer screenings and checkups.

The T.J. Martell Foundation for Leukemia, Cancer and AIDS Research raised a total of $1.45 million at their 35th annual gala which took place at at the New York Marriott Marquis.

Linkin Park's Chester Bennington Trapped in Saw 3D

(Gibson) Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington will realize a dream (or should we say nightmare?) today when Saw 3D—the seventh film in the popular horror series—opens in theaters today. A longtime fan of the Saw films, Bennington is excited to have scored a role in what's said to be the movie franchise's final installment. His side band, Dead By Sunrise, also contributed a song called "Condemned" to the film's soundtrack.

"I'm not allowed to say much about the scene [that I star in], but it was a lot of fun to do," said Bennington, who is trained in theater and aspired to be an actor before taking up music. "I spent about seven to eight hours a day getting in and out of makeup."

What 34-year-old Bennington can say about the film: "What makes this particular trap unique is how complex it is. There are multiple people involved in this trap, which is very atypical for [the film's villain] Jigsaw." - more on this story

Triumph Classics To Be Reissued

(hennemusic) One of Canada's greatest hard rock bands, Triumph, are reissuing 10 classic albums from their catalogue.

The albums – released between 1976 and 1987 - left an indelible mark on the history of rock, their legacy and influence considered among the forefathers of progressive metal.

Italy's Frontiers Records has announced that the official reissues of Triumph's 10 classic albums, in digipak version and with the original tracklistings, will be released on December 3. - more on this story

The Day The World Lost Duane Allman

(Gibson) Duane Allman, the musical genius of the Allman Brothers Band, died on Friday, October 29, 1971, in Macon, Georgia, from massive injuries received in a motorcycle crash. He was just 24 years old.

The band were riding high, maybe not at their peak yet, but pretty close. In March 1971, the band recorded At Fillmore East in New York City. They then continued to tour the U.S. through late October, when they returned to Georgia for a well-deserved rest.

Taking some time of from a hectic recording and touring schedule, Duane Allman was enjoying the break. Cruising on his motorcycle in the early evening, Allman, at the intersection of Hillcrest and Bartlett in Macon, swerved to avoid a large flatbed truck that turned in front of him. His motorcycle spun out of control, skidded and pinned Allman underneath as it slid over 50 feet more. Still alive when the ambulance came, Allman had to be resuscitated three times on the way to hospital before dying after emergency surgery at Macon Medical Center. - more on this story

Reunited Anthrax Announce Special Release

Anthrax will release its first recording in 20 years with Joey Belladonna on vocals. "Live at the Sonisphere", a limited-edition, 10-inch picture disc single, will feature the tracks "Medusa" and "Only," both recorded this past June 22 in Sofia, Bulgaria, where Anthrax performed as part of The Big Four - Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax.

"Live at the Sonisphere" will be released on "Black Friday," November 26, exclusively through Metal Club, the North American indie record store consortium that works to connect the metal community with their local "brick and mortar" record stores.

The Black Keys In A Box

(Gibson) Showing their allegiance to independent record shops, Ohio blues-rock duo The Black Keys will release a box set of their best-selling sixth album, Brothers, for Record Store Day's Black Friday festivities on November 26.

The Brothers box set will be a numbered, limited edition package that includes the album as both a CD and a double 45-rpm vinyl, a bonus 10" record with a half-dozen previously unreleased live songs, and a limited edition poster.

Released in May 2010, Brothers is The Black Keys' highest-charting album yet. Guitarist and vocalist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney founded the band in 2001. They are currently on a world tour with dates mapped out through March 2011. - more on this story

Manic Street Preachers Illness Sidelines Shows

(Gibson) Manic Street Preachers have been forced to postpone two London gigs after singer James Dean Bradfield fell ill with acute laryngitis.

The Brixton Academy dates postponed are for tonight (October 28) and Friday (29) and have been moved to January 21 and January 22, 2011.

BBC Newsbeat reports that Bradfield said in a statement, "I would like to apologize to the fans. Nothing makes us feel worse than having to postpone a show. We were particularly looking forward to playing two nights at Brixton as we have such special memories of previous gigs at this venue. Slash's New Video Online

(hennemusic) Slash has just released "Beautiful Dangerous," the latest video from his self-titled solo record.

The steamy clip features Fergie from The Black Eyed Peas, who heats things up with the guitarist. "She went to a dark place," Slash told Us magazine, of her portrayal of a crazed fan who ties him to a bed, kisses him and teases him with a knife - while clad in leather lingerie. "She nailed it."

The Acacia Strain's To Catch a Predatour Starts Tonight

The Acacia Strain will kick off the "To Catch a Predatour" tonight in Clifton Park, NY. The tour sees the band headlining the East Coast and Canada with support from The Red Chord, Terror, Gaza, and The Contortionist.

THE Acacia Strain will be playing songs from their latest release, Wormwood," as well as classics from their catalog. The band will also be doing a signing and meet and greet each night by their merch table thirty minutes after doors. There will be a special shirt available for purchase only during this time in addition to the rest of their brand new tour merchandise.

Back From Hell: A Tribute To Sam Kinison

(The Syndicate) The biggest names in comedy will pay tribute to the legend that is Sam Kinison. The special, Back From Hell: A Tribute To Sam Kinison will premiere on Comedy Central on Saturday, November 13th.

The special features some of the biggest names in comedy as they discuss the life of Kinison and his contribution to the comedy world. The likes of Chris Rock, Denis Leary, Norm MacDonald, George Lopez, Lewis Black, Kathy Griffin, and Richard Belzer offer up insight about Kinison's social and cultural impact on comedy. Between their commentaries is a string of some of Kinison's greatest stand-up moments allowing him to be remembered as the one-of-a-kind act that he was. "I miss my dad and I miss Sam Kinison. I really wish I could show him what I've done, because he had so much to do with it," says Chris Rock.

After the special premieres, Back From Hell: A Tribute To Sam Kinison will be released uncut and uncensored on DVD via Comedy Central on Tuesday, November 16th. (Gibson) The Pixies' relaunched official website, which now provides access to live recordings, is asking fans to help contribute to a multimedia gigography. The band state on the revamped site: "You may have noticed that we've redecorated a bit. It feels like the right time for the band to have a proper home, share some music, and provide a place for fans and the band to communicate. We hope you like what we've done."

Music-Week reports that on PixiesMusic.com, live recordings will sell for $3.99 and the site will be adding new concerts every week.

Double Live Colosseum

Ruf Records will release a double-CD live album from legendary British progressive rock band, Colosseum, titled Live05, recorded at locations in Germany and Austria. [The release date was not mentioned in the announcement.]

Acclaimed British sound engineer Miles Ashton recorded all the tracks during the band's summer 2005 tour on 24-track digital gear, and the results are evident from the first listen of Live05.

The band lineup on Live05 includes Jon Hiseman on drums, Chris Farlowe on vocals, Clem Clempson on guitar, Dave Greenslade on keyboards, Mark Clarke on bass and Barbara Thompson on saxes. - more on this story

The exhibition is a photographic portrait of Bowie's years in London, and it ties in with the publication of a book with the same title.

(Submitted) Lion's Share will perform 2-3 songs together with legendary drummer Vinny Appice (Heaven & Hell, Black Sabbath, Dio), during his Scandinavian Drum Day appearance on October 30 in Stockholm, Sweden.

Lion's Share was the main band during the Ronnie James Dio Tribute Concert that took place on the Sweden Rock Cruise on October 7, together with guests from In Flames, Hardcore Superstar, King Diamond, Stratovarius, Yngwie, Amon Amarth etc.
