U2 fans who have the chance to see the band perform during its upcoming tour of Australia and New Zealand will have the opportunity to hear something that very few fans have heard before. The band rehearsed intensively for the dates at the Mt. Smart Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand, and, according to the fan site u2gigs.com, the band have added to their standard concert repertoire a couple of rarely performed tunes, "Scarlet" and "One Tree Hill."The gospel-tinged "Scarlet" is from the band's early album October, and has only previously been performed live at a 1981 BBC taping. In Auckland, opener Jay-Z joined the band for a guest rap during "Scarlet," and he also showed up to help U2 with "Sunday Bloody Sunday." "One Tree Hill," from Joshua Tree, is also a rare addition to the band's live set, though its inclusion on this tour is not as surprising when one considers that it was written about Greg Carroll, a New Zealand native and friend of Bono's who died in a motorcycle accident in 1986. The band have also been preparing a concert version of "Boys Fall from the Sky," one of the songs that Bono and The Edge created for their score to the Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, which opened in New York this week.

Most people have seen the famous SNL "more cowbell" skit (if not, search for it online). Today Gibson rounded up their list of the Top 10 Cowbell songs and some might surprise you. Here are a couple of their selections:5. "Rock of Ages" Def Leppard: "Gunter
glieben
glauchen
globen," and with those four head-scratching German words (actually spoken by Def Leppard producer Mutt Lange), the Leps' still fully-armed drummer Rick Allen turns his attention to the almighty cowbell, clanging out the classic intro to one of the '80s greatest fist-pumping anthems. It's better to cowbell than fade away! 1. "Honky Tonk Women" The Rolling Stones: What separates The Rolling Stones copious cowbell from the herd during the intro to this debaucherous little ditty is the non-traditional beat producer Jimmy Miller thunks out on the cowbell (no, Charlie Watts did not play the cowbell on this one). Where most cowbellists stick to a straightforward hard-driving cow-beat, Jimmy's softer, funkier take on the beef bongo instantly identifies one of the Stones' greatest songs. Your blue ribbon winner!

Between The Buried And Me lead vocalist, keyboardist Tommy Rogers will release his debut solo album Pulse on February 1, 2011 via Metal Blade Records. The multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, who not only self-produced the record, but also arranged, composed and played all instruments on the recording, will use the pseudonym Thomas Giles (his given middle name) as his moniker for the project. "Creating this album was a very unique experience for me," comments Rogers. "I honestly never thought I would get a lot of this music recorded. This record was a way for me to step back, focus on simplified song structures and really build off of melodies. Even though I love f***ing my throat up by screaming, it was very nice to sit back and chill out a bit. I named the record "Pulse" because it is a collection of thoughts and experiences I've had through the years. It's a very personal record and I hope the songs help people evaluate their lives and make the best of their time here. Find your pulse."

(Rock AAA) Dave Grohl says I Should Have Known, the Foo Fighters track featuring ex-Nirvana bandmate Krist Novoselic, is the band's darkest song. It's the first time the pair have worked together in 20 years, but they've never lost touch. The recording process also reunited them with producer Butch Vig, who manned the desk for Nirvana's iconic Nevermind album in 1991. Grohl decided to abandon the trappings of expensive production work for the Foos' first record after taking a break. He wanted to look back at his own and his band's roots, so the new album was recorded in his garage and a movie was shot of the process. And he says the entire concept came to him while he was on tour with supergroup side-project Them Crooked Vultures.

Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson, a founding member of the influential band Throbbing Gristle, as well as an artist, photographer and designer, died Thursday, November 25 in his sleep, according to The Guardian. He was 55.Born in the U.K., Christopherson became interested in radical artists while away at college at the State University of New York in Buffalo. He began a controversial career as a photographer, and soon was offered a job by Hipgnosis, the design team which made Pink Floyd's album covers. Christopherson's photographs also gained the attention of performance artists Genesis P-Orridge and Cosey Fanni Tutti. In 1975, the three formed Throbbing Gristle with Chris Carter (an electronics wiz who built his own synthesizers), and began creating a loud and angry sound built on white noise and clanking beats. They called it "industrial music." The band, who were rejected by the punk rock movement, added new layers to their sound over time, including sweeter, synth-pop elements and ambient noise. Although they never achieved huge fame, Throbbing Gristle have earned their place as a hugely important band since their 1981 breakup and have been credited as a huge influence by artists such as Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor.

The legendary 'Natural Gas' album featuring Badfinger, Humble Pie and Uriah Heep alumni has been remastering and re-released. The Natural Gas album has been given the CD treatment by record label ItsAboutMusic.com, who has an impressive back catalog of releases. An out of print inferior reissue of Natural Gas was previously released in 2009, and now the album has been completely re-hauled - meticulously remastered with the original artwork restored and the blessings of the band. Originally released in 1975 on the Private Stock label, the eponymous debut by Natural Gas featured Joey Molland of Badfinger, Jerry Shirley of Humble Pie, Peter Wood of Quiver and Mark Clarke of Uriah Heep and Colosseum. "I went to this place called Blakes in London, which was a hangout for rockers," recalls Joey Molland. "It was a cool little place. One night I saw a friend of mine there named Mark Clarke; a bass player from Liverpool who'd played with Uriah Heep and Colosseum. We were just talking and having a laugh and I asked him, 'What are you doing?' He said, 'I'm going up to Jerry Shirley's this weekend. I'm going to stay there and we'll probably have a jam why don't you come with us.' I didn't really know Jerry, but I thought it would be cool. So Mark calls him and Jerry says. 'Come on up.' We go on up to Jerry Shirley's house he had a lovely little farmhouse outside of London. We found out that day that he had just left Humble Pie. Later on that night we had a jam; I think it was Clem Clemson, Jerry, Mark, myself and there may have been one or two others. We had a lot of fun, just playing rock 'n' roll songs and blues songs. The next morning Mark, Jerry and myself decided to put a band together. We thought, 'Why not. But do we have any songs?' I had a couple of songs, which I played to them. One was called 'Once Again A Love Song' and the other was called 'Dark Cloud'. Likewise, Mike had a couple songs. We also got a keyboardist, a guy named Dave Kafinetti from the band Rare Bird. He went on to be the keyboard player in 'Spinal Tap'. What a knockout guy!" Kafinetti was replaced before the recording of the album by Peter Wood who co-wrote 'Year of the Cat' with Al Stewart.
